I'm really warming to Badcube's Warpath after seeing pics. I'm almost certain to preorder when the time comes!

Got Soar today too, but didn't get a chance to open him up (working tonight). Can't wait, though!!! So pumped he's finally here... now I just gotta get my MP Skywarp (still in transit!).

It feels like, to me anyway, that 3rd party is winning out over MP style figures. I find them to be a lot more sturdy and less fragile and in some cases more detailed. The MP line really needs to get more villains going. I always guessed that they were releasing figures based on original catalog scans, but UM came out in 86. So bring on more Cons, huh? :)

Totally disagree.

With the exception of FansToys, Takara's stuff is still top notch... In fact, I STILL wouldn't say FansToys are doing it "better" - but they are doing it just as good, and they're being very smart about choosing characters that complement, rather than compete with, the official Masterpiece line.

Badcube is ALMOST there, but not quite. Good enough that I'm still buying, of course... but they're no FansToys, and they're no Takara.

XTransbots is really trying... But QC issues abound. I don't think their MP Megatron will be up to snuff, and besides, there will certainly be better ones soon. Even if Takara doesn't get around to making one soon, EVENTUALLY FansToys will relent, and no doubt it'll be of higher quality... and probably look better too. There's something a bit off about Apollyon to me.

No one else is really doing masterpiece-level figures, imo.

Opened up Soar and was blown away by the quality. Like the new packaging to avoid paint scrapes. He's massive and as solid as anything. Tight joints and great posing. In short, another home run from FT!

do you think that tank megatron is legit?? if so when do you guys think it'll be released bc i actually like him more as a tank than gun tbh:lol

That Warpath looks ****ing awesome but is it me or does it completely fail at capturing the MP/toon look? :lol Looks more like a military expansion of Binaltech or something.

Is the masterpiece rodimus worth getting? Between the 150-200 dollar range?

He's delicate as hell and a nightmare to transform but he looks great. So I don't know. If you can deal with a very fragile toy that looks good and you want one then yes. If not then no. I also think he doesn't fit in terribly well style wise with the rest of the MP line other than Magnus.

Awesome thanks! i think ill pass on him then lol. Also which one of these would you guys recommend i should get between prowl, smokescreen, bluestreak, or silverstreak since they're all pretty much the same mold. Lol im just starting to get into this line.

Between prowl and smokescreen, in my opinion, but really them 2 and bluestreak. I have the most memories of them from childhood - silver streak not as much. The KOs of them all are half the price and are practically the exact same in quality btw. Some even come with additional weapons not with the Takara releases.

(Ducks and runs)

I remember a while ago a third party company released photos of an mp scale sunstreaker and said it was supposed to come out at the end of 2014 but there have been nothing since then so does anyone else know any info about him that i dont know about? I really cant wait to get him:yess:

People were speculating that it was cancelled on tfw2005 last week and the OP said it's still in the works, just taking longer than expected. Don't think they gave a revised date though :tap

These two finally arrived yesterday.

I just love Magnus. I know many don't, and the reasons for the complaints are warranted. He's far from perfect, the articulation is a problem, but man he looks incredible. The nostalgia is strong with this guy as far as I'm concerned, I don't see anY problems with his size and I absolutely love having him in my collection. I might just get a second. I'm not a toy designer so I don't see how TT could've done It any better.

Skywarp? Great mold, but man I feel ripped off. $200 for a barebones release, not even a freaking stand! Just the Megatron gun (I've lost count on how many I have now) and a black pilot. That's it. I smell the whole exclusivity thing is BS, this is just a cash grab. He comes with less stuff than Starscream did, doesn't look bad, but when you compare it with Magnus (love him or hate him), he's a new mold, cheaper and bigger. I just don't see the value on SW, no matter how I try to justify it.

Luckily, I'm not buying as much stuff as I use to, so it's not hurting me... But if you have the old mold and you aren't a diehard SW fan (who is?) I'd say pass on this. It's just too expensive.

All in all, yesterday was a great day. I actually believe that opening a new MP has no equal IMO. I don't get the same feeling when I get a new HT figure or anything of the sort.

Transformers are the ****.

I opened up Soar today but haven't taken any pics yet. I LOVE these FT Dinobots! He is a solid, beast of a figure and all the joints are tight. I haven't tried transforming him yet but I'm not sure where I'd display him in dinosaur form anyway since the wingspan is pretty wide. It was a cool little bonus to have the alternate wings and beak included with the figure though more than likely I'll just leave him shiny. I can't wait to have all of these (hoping they are going to make Grimlock) but I'll need to open up space in a Besta cube to display them all together.

I had the chance to see FT's Soar in person for the first time over the weekend.

It takes a large dump on pretty much every other Transformer currently in existence.

GeneralZodLives,
FT are doing Grimlock, but he's being saved until last.

Snarl is next and his numbering will be FT-06.

After that there's a gap in their numbering as Perceptor is FT-09 and Reflector is FT-11.

So FT-07 & FT-08 are probably going to be Sludge and Grimlock.

Which leaves a question mark over FT-10.

Based on what else they've teased it should be Skyfire, Omega Supreme or Blaster.

DPrime,
Thought the test shot might change your opinion on Warpath :wink1:

Re:the 3rd party Vs official debate,

I am currently a lot happier with what the better 3rd parties are doing.

The post-Hasui direction of the Masterpiece line has so far done nothing for me....except save me money.

Some of the fandom seem to think that making 3D, fully functional toys look as much like crappily drawn 2D animation models as possible is the way to go but Takara ( most of the time ) and the better 3rd parties like Fans Toys and Badcube clearly disagree.
While I don't follow TF discussions elsewhere, the interest, at least for myself, is in maintaining an aesthetic that fits in with the classic cartoon designs. That's clearly what the MP line is doing, though there is a clear compromise here or there for the purpose of making something practical. If a company starts taking lots of creative license, and the character loses the aesthetic connection to the cartoon character (or at the very least, the G1 toy), then the nostalgic interest starts to wane. And that's what drives my interest in Transformers, and probably the vast majority of others who are into the MP figures and 3rd party derivations/complements--nostalgia. If the designs are as you say "crappily drawn," (though I suspect many of us would disagree with you) then so be it, but that's where the interest comes from, and to my eyes anyway, clearly seems to be driving the behavior by Takara and FansToys at least.

Re:the 3rd party Vs official debate,

I am currently a lot happier with what the better 3rd parties are doing although it's somewhat surprising that none of them have released any buttflaps to attach to all the other Ultra Magnus figures :D

The post-Hasui direction of the Masterpiece line has so far done nothing for me.

I took my masterpiece grimlock out for the first time in months... and i forgot how much of a floppy mess he is in robot mode, and how hard he is to pose....

MASSIVE dissapointment there. i wonder if i out some magnets in his torso if that might fix things.....

ok, so fans toys is doing a full set of dinobots, yes?

INCLUdINBg a new grimlock?

and what are these "iron robots" limited edition of 1000 variants/ what's different about them?

Received Soar (Swoop) from Ages Three and Up last Friday. Didn't have time to look it over much or transform him over the weekend. It does however has same problems others have mentioned about tight joints and the gold clips on the knees feeling cheap (should have been diecast).
Overall i am impressed and he stand up well next to Scoria. Dinobots Rule!!!

I just ordered a masterpiece grimlock and i wanted to know your guys opinion on the figure?

lerath666,
FT confirmed they were doing all the Dinobots with this teaser,

There was some initial concern as to whether there'd be enough demand for a new Grimlock but their initial Dinobots have clearly sold well enough for them to commit to doing all 5.

They've also said that Sludge is proving a lot trickier to design than the others in order to fit in with their aesthetic which is why they're taking their time.

Keep MP08 in dinosaur mode for now as that still works OK with FT's and then get rid once FT's pre-order goes up....at this point it's virtually guaranteed that it will make MP08 obsolete.

Some scale comparisons with Warpath,

robot mode,

alt mode,

Robot mode is no bigger than Prowl but the tank mode looks massive compared to the cars....have Badcube invented mass shifting technology?

EDIT,
Here's an intresting segment of an interview Shogo Hasui did about MP10,

Interviewer: I see you have been very particular about recreating Convoy from the cartoon.

Hasui : Not exactly so. If I only picked details from cartoon Convoy it would not make a highly detailed design fit for MP series. I also incorporated details from the comics and toy where I felt they were required.

Kobayashi & Yuki clearly favor the cartoon as MP09, MP22 and MP24 all have that overly simplistic appearance that makes them look reminiscent of oversized Revoltechs or something.

great... it looks like there are toy and toon homages for each figure as well/

just my luck i prefer the toon versions.... finding a chrome horned triceratops is going to be all sorts of not fun.
