Well, I'm glad you guys are excited for this thing, but about the best I can say is that I hope Hasui gets to work on an MP version after this.

I will admit, I'd be pretty pumped if I was still into the Classics stuff but since I'm MP-only now, I really don't need this. :) I certainly don't think it's a piece of crap as others seem to... If nothing else, it's a terrific "first draft"!

I honestly don't feel like the 3rd parties have really nailed any of the '85-'86 characters in the "Masterpiece" aesthetic; apart from Apollyon, that is. That new Jazz fits the bill but you've got to think there'll be an official Jazz at some point.

I'll have to respectfully disagree.

I don't think many of the companies jumping on the MP bandwagon get the aesthetic but the designers that Fans Toys, Badcube and XTransbots certainly do.

3rd parties in general are also far more ambitious, they're already dipping their toes into sub groups like Headmasters and Triple Changers ( with varying degrees of success ) as well as perennial fan favorites like the Dinobots and Insecticons.

Takara make carbots and not much else.

That's fine if that's all you want for your collection but I want more variety than that.

Here's a pic of a handpainted protoype of XTB Scourge,

The guy they have designing their figures right now is hitting a lot of home runs, I just hope that the less complex nature of the figure compared to Apollyon makes it less likely for their factory to screw something up.

All things transformers!!!!

I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't wise up and do SDCC preorders, just like Sideshow used to do or what Mattel does... There's so much cool stuff to be done at SDCC and standing in line for an exclusive shouldn't be one...

XTransbots MP Beachcomber test shot,

Make Toys MP Chromedome,

Make Toys MP Hardhead prototype,

I'm actually really liking those Maketoys Headmasters, think they look great & IMO the Headmasters & Target Masters where the last true great G1 figures.
After that things got daft with the Pretenders, Micro Masters & even the Power Masters to a degree

I'm really tempted by them.

Neil

They do both look fantastic but I've got no attachment to the characters as I didn't really care for the Headmasters cartoon.

Hopefully they are learning some lessons from the production/QC issues with Appolyon, because that Beachcomber looks great. And I don't play videogames very much, but if that Transformers one is good, I'll probably have to pick it up for the PS3. Looks phenomenal.

I don't have any major nostalgia for the original toys and have never seen the Headmaster cartoon but I like the gimmick and Hardhead would be another cool addition as I like tanks.

I'm not so sure whether I'd buy Chromedome but there's a temptation to support Make Toys as if their initial Headmasters do well they might do some of the Decepticons....Mindwipe and Skullcruncher would be awesome to have in MP scale.

I have only bought one Make Toys product in the past ( IDW Swerve & Gears set ) and the quality was decent so there's no worries on that score.

I wonder how much different will the tt version be. I mean I wouldn`t think it will be that much different could be wrong
Based on this tweet revealing that the Takara Tomy set will include G1-style guns for all of the individual figures, it seems their paint apps may have more in common with the Hasbro retail set than the SDCC special edition. The only additional paint which can be seen here is silver on Hook's shins, black little wheels inside bonecrusher's legs and maybe black inside his treads. On his arms, Bonecrusher actually has less paint than the hasbro version, forgoing the silver arms of the G1 toy for all-green like the cartoon.

im all in for the cartoon version of big guy will it be the same in height 18" and any idea when there version will be released

So, other than standing in line at the actual Con, what are our options regarding the SDCC ed. Devy?

Marked up prices from retailers and eBay? Based on that tweet, the Takara version doesn't look all that different from the Hasbro one.. Hope thats not the case.

Hasbro said a limited number of the SDCC version will also be available on the Hasbro Toy Shop sometime after the convention.
