Just found and purchased my walmart Skywarp, YAY.

And now for something a little different.
A 3d rendering of G1 optimus I'm working on for my Senior project/ portfolio.

It's still a Work in progress, but i figured i'd share.

CGI optimus!

Keep it up bud! What program are you using?

Aside from the robot battles, BayFormers 2 did suck..I only have interest in G1 only from now on.

Funny how the things that people rip on the TF movies for pop up in nearly every episode of G1, infact i find those old cartoons near unwatchable these days due to the sheer level of bad writing, directing and stupid storylines.

I picked up this cheap KO of Devastator for $6 at a local Asian shopping center. Its pretty cheap and some pieces fit poorly but, over all for the price, not too shabby.I will be getting the die cast KO version of this guy as well, which is way better.

Yeah, G1 is held to be the ultimate in storytelling by some fans when it's full of just as much BS as the live action movies.

As much as I like certain G1 designs I think the amount of homages to that era in just about every toyline and TV series that has followed is way beyond a joke, obviously keeping things like the character names the same makes sense but I think it's time for some more originality in how the robots look as the constant rehashes of the same blocky designs is f'ing dull.

Whilst the characterisations of the TF's in the Bayformers movies are dubious or non existent there's no question that the designs of the actual robots were a breath of fresh air and I think they should be used as a starting point for any future incarnations of the characters.

Likewise I think it's time the G1 only theme of the Masterpiece line was ditched and we got some Movie characters starting with Optimus Prime and the ROTF version of Megatron as there's currently nothing in the way of high quality representations of those designs apart from a non transforming Sideshow statue that in all probability won't live up to the prototype.

Are you getting the new Diamond Select Icons busts?

No, and to be honest i don't really understand that line. Why come out with busts about the same size with no arms? They look a "little" more like the cartoons did, but the original line kicks ass. I don't really care for the "new" line.

to each their own brother. I wouldn't mind seeing the movie designs added to the masterpiece line, but I'd not buy them.

I would, however, love to see some of the animated designs done as pasterpiece ( Read: Bulkhead)

As long as we get a G1 hound,Shockwace, Soundwave and bumblbeee in masterpiece format, i'll be happy.

Don't get me wrong , I don't hate G1, far from it but I do think there is an element of the fandom that wants every single thing whether it's toys or TV series/movies to be related to it in some way and I think it's time to move away from it, at least while the live action movies have the mainstream popularity that they currently have as many of the casual fans that have been brought in by the movies just aren't intrested in the older eras.

I think you've got some intresting ideas for future Masterpieces, after Movie Prime & Megatron a G1 Bumblebee is my most wanted and I'm sure Takara would love to make one but until VW change their policy and allow use of the Beetle it seems to be a non starter.

Hound is unlikely due to the Binaltech/Alternators version and not being a popular enough character to justify a new mold with little repaint potential.

Shockwave would be an intresting choice though I'd be concerned that the robot mode would end up as dodgy as Megatron's as their original toys both had very spindly legs in robot mode.

Soundwave has to be a great possibility for the next original Decepticon mold as it could be repainted into Soundblaster and some of the tapes could be repainted too.

My own choices for future Masterpieces would be,
1.Movie Prime
2.Movie Megatron ( ROTF version )
3.G1 Bumblebee
4.Movie Bumblebee
5.Movie Starscream

I think the Animated style might look a bit odd in Masterpiece scale but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't buy Bumblebee with a Sari figure that could fit inside his car mode ( Human Alliance 2.0? ) and improved versions of the Dinobots.

how about a compromise? a G1 bot mode styled version of bumblebee using the same car as animated?

from my list the ONLY one I'll be heartbroken if I DOn't ever see in masterpiece would be a G1 Soundwave.
Shockwave's my #2 on the list.

As for my G1 love, i have no illusions about how terrible the G1 cartoon was. it's an 80's show. it's ok, mediocre at best.
My favorite 'formers toon would be Animated so far, but I digress.

The movie designs are neet, and from a design standpoint pretty fascinating. but I'm not that keen on them overall. I MIGHT get a leader class megatron, though I probably would get a Masterpiece movie megs, but he's the only one.

for me, transformers is 90% nostolgiabomb, so if I'm far more likely to but G1, over any others.

I think it might be possible for Takara to make an alt mode that's very close to a Beetle but has enough differences to avoid a lawsuit as neither the G1 toy or animation model was 100% accurate to the real thing.

Failing that or even better. a change of heart from VW, making the alt mode along the lines of the Animated or Classics versions would also be acceptable to me though it would inevitably cause a mass outbreak of complaining from the real hardcore Gwunners :D
