damnit.... i need a MP grimlock... anyone know where i can get one one the cheap?

Well you could wait for the US release next year as that'll almost certainly be cheaper than the Takara version but ask yourself whether you want a dumbed down version that will probably look a shadow of the original or the real deal?

I'm not sure the Takara one can be got for less than $150 though a bit of shopping around might prove otherwise. Mine is currently en route from an ebay seller in Hong Kong and it's gonna be a great day when it finally arrives :banana

In the case of both MP Starscream and SkyWarp, Hasbro's release is way way better with more accurate colour scheme.

I actually would not mind true G1 accurate colour scheme, replace the chrome bits with yellow plastic.

Ah, Yeah, i can see that, but there is also the "special version" with it's comic accurate colors

personaly, though, I'm fond of the gold chrome. reminds me of the original toy :D

The Hasbro versions of the MP Seekers are better but both versions of Prime sucked balls.

I speak from experience as I had to return both due to crappy paint and also because the legs had a tendency to fall off which put me off the mold completely so with Grimlock being my TF Holy Grail there's no way I was going to chance my opinion of it being ruined by the chimps that work in Hasbro's quality control department.

If anything gets changed for the Hasbro version I expect it'll be the materials that some of the parts are cast in as they'll have to comply with US safety laws and I don't really want a T-rex with bendy teeth and claws :D

Just so you know, the chromed Grimlock I got, while sealed, has some minor chrome chipping... and I know it's a factory dealio... and probably something that is extremely common amongst these pieces.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll certainly be careful with mine as it's by far the most expensive TF I've bought.

I think it might be possible for Takara to make an alt mode that's very close to a Beetle but has enough differences to avoid a lawsuit as neither the G1 toy or animation model was 100% accurate to the real thing.

Failing that or even better. a change of heart from VW, making the alt mode along the lines of the Animated or Classics versions would also be acceptable to me though it would inevitably cause a mass outbreak of complaining from the real hardcore Gwunners :D

And classic beetle owners like me. ;)

wut?

Mold wise I can't see much changing on the U.S. release of MP Grimlock other than rounding his teeth and his fingers slightly. There really is not that much paint on MP Grimlock, so it really comes down to whether Hasbro will use chrome or metallic paints on his chest, tail, feet etc. I highly doubt he will come with the waiter set either.

The first U.S. release of MP Prime is exactly the same as the Takara version except for the shortened smokestacks and the little bit of battle damage paint added to his arms and grill in robot mode. I think Takara was supposed to originally go with the battle damage too, but changed their mind at the last minute, both figures have damage sculpted into the mold. Oh and the Hasbro one comes with a black gun. Now the second Hasbro release of MP Prime is just plain awful.

The waiter set wouldn't really be a big loss, I doubt I'll even take mine out of the packaging, that is if the bloody thing ever arrives. I guess this is what I get for being a cheapass when it comes to shipping :D

In an extremely rare case of a quality item being on offer in the UK I was able to get a Masterpiece Skywarp from Argos for £39.99 plus another 10% off as I also work there.

My previous MP's cost £65 ( Megatron ) and £90 ( Grimlock ) respectively so Skywarp for under £40 is pretty good , even if it lacks the unique face sculpts that are on the Takara version.

Dubz,
I think Takara will probably hold off on a Masterpiece Bumblebee until they can convince VW to change their mind unless they make a Movie version instead.

The main thing VW objected to when they tried to get the New Beetle licensed for the BT/Alts line was that the toy would have included a weapon so if they left that out maybe it would be an easier sell to VW as something that's not "war like".

It's also worth remembering that VW let one of their subisidiary companies ( Audi ) have a car in ROTF as a bad guy so hopefully that's a start of a shift in policy.

Id settle for an MP movie-verse BB if thats the only way we'd get one. But ultimately nothing can compare to a proper G1 BB, either as an actual classic Beetle, or as a modified version like in the cartoon. The classics version was too much of a stretch as a G1 homage if you ask me. Dont get me wrong i love the little dude to bits, but the alt mode was a bit rubbish. All they need to do is make something that is Beetle SHAPED, change the rear light layout, slightly change the shape of the front and they will have a non-descript beetle LIKE alt mode. Simple really, i dunno why it hasnt been done already.
I mean ive seen similar things happen in other lines, like RID for example. Some autobots turned into Dodge Vipers and Lomborghini Diablo's, but they wasnt lisenced as far as i know, and they made enough changes to the designs to get away with it so why cant they do the same with an MP?

*sigh*
I doubt it'll ever happen but i can hope. If i had enough experiance with re-shelling and scratch-building i would have made my own long before now.

There's certainly a precedent for lookalikes of real vehicles and quite recently too eg,

Universe Sideswipe/Sunstreaker = Based on the front of one Lamborghini and the back of another.

Universe Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen = A Nissan 350 in all but a few details.

ROTF Sideways = Audi allowed the R8 to appear in the film and videogame but the toy wasn't fully licensed so a few details were altered but it's still instantly recognisable.

Changing the alt mode enough to avoid being sued should be easy providing Takara made the transformation along the lines of the G1 toy ( but a bit more complex of course ) as it wouldn't be possible to have a 100% accurate alt mode even with a license as BB's head would emerge from the rear end of the vehicle.

Buster Prime gallery. Silver paint all over. :) Except for the smokestacks, WTF, real shame right there.

New Buster Optimus Prime Images
By courtesy of anonymous poster at 2chan.net toy board, here's Buster Optimus Prime product images and some small review. it says:

Only front grill and roof cover are plated. most of other silvers are painted.
Color of blue parts are darker than normal ROTF OP.
No sound & voice are changed. eyes glow too.
Instruction has photo for easier operation.
New weapon - Ion Blaster - can hold, but don't fit well, to the left hand.
Energy Sword is yellowish orange with silver paint. looks gorgeous.
Last(7th) image is a small custom, BOP with normal OP head.

BOP's official street date is tomorrow(Nov. 21) in Japan. don't miss out!

Eh...the silver is definately an improvement, but TBH the normal release should have had that right from the start. No chrome gastanks, tool-boxes or air tanks=fail.
Head sculpt is nice though, and the pinstripes are the tits.
If this came with two transforming guns id buy it, but otherwise-pass.
