Apparently these are only Asia exclusives, which is good since the only one I'd be interested in is Hot Spot maybe.

If I were a betting man I'd put money on all of them getting different paint apps and being released next year as part of the 40 Classics that Hasbro are claiming they're going to produce.

The Kup retool is Swerve, who was also a red truck in G1 although he was originally a retool of Gears.

I have to say I'm absolutely gobsmacked by this, if ever there was something to get me intrested in an official release again a Masterpiece G1 Sideswipe would be right near the top of the list.

What's particularly intresting is that Lamborghini appear to be letting Takara use the Countach even though they're owned by Audi who're owned by VW, the company that put the block on the Alternators Bumblebee/Cliffjumper and Jazz because they didn't want their product associated with "war toys".

It seems there's been a shift in policy which could mean a MP Bumblebee or Jazz are a bit closer to reality.

That said they likely won't happen until the new Seeker mold has been ground to dust.

That Brawn is great. I am glad they decided to upsize them. Making them so tiny was nice as a gimmick and would appeal to a small group of TF fans, but for display purposes I figure more people will prefer figures in somewhat realistic scale with Classics or other figures.

And Masterpiece Sideswipe--awesome, and unexpected. Looks perfect! Surely a Red Alert repaint will be forthcoming, as well.

The Binaltech/Alternator version looked like poo, though, from a design perspective.

This looks like he jumped right out of the cartoon. It is a lesser character compared to what they've done so far (apart from jet repaints), but so what? Cars!!

Very left field, but it does make a lot of sense. This thing has massive repaint potential. Sunstreaker, Red Alert, Breakdown, maybe even Punch/Counterpunch.

was never a fan of the clunky robot modes of the binals but the metal finish/parts made them look great in alt mode! MP rod alt mode looks like crap in comparison to them due him being plastic but hey what can u do?? metal 'toy' cars>>>>>plastic 'toy' cars

If they're going to stick so closely to the G1 designs Sunstreaker will need a completely new mold as his transformation is nothing like Sideswipe's and only the front end of the alt mode is the same.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The classics figure was the same mold, but it wasn't truly G1 accurate. Having said that, it might only be a slight mod to this figure. If the engineering is pretty much the same and it's just changing a few molded parts, then everyone would win from Hasbro doing an MP Sunstreaker.

I think it would take more than a bit of retooling eg Sunstreaker's feet are made from the front end of the car....which forms Sideswipe's chest.

The CHUG mold being used for both is more acceptable as reimagining is the norm for that line but Masterpiece releases are expected to be "ultimate" versions of the G1 designs so anything other than a new mold will just seem like a copout.

I think I just exploded with excitement MP Sideswipe is just going to be so awesome!!

I love Sideswipe easily one of my fave G1 characters & a MP scale figure will be amazing.

WOW !! Just WOW !!! Masterpiece Sideswipe

Due this fall? I'll believe that when I see it..............

Sidey and Sunny have always been my favourite Autobots and Masterpiece versions of one, or preferably both of them, has been my number 1 wish since the MP line Started. I never really thought it would happen though. Although I love them, I recognise they are pretty much “second tier” characters. To say this announcement has blown me away and made my day is an understatement.


I think we can safely assume a repaint as Red Alert is a “lock in” now, but like some of the other guys have said, I am not so sure about Sunstreaker TBH. MP’s have tended to take their design influences from a mix between the Gen 1 toy and the cartoon model. If that’s the case then Sunstreaker would require a completely new mold as his Gen 1 toys is nothing like Sidey.

However if they decide to focus "just" on the cartoon/comic model (which was pretty much Generic limbs with different chest, head and colour scheme) a heavy retool which takes and updates the ideas used in the Universe versions could work. I'd much prefer a new mold, but would rather have that then no Sunny. If Hastak have actually paid Lamborghini for the licence I will hold out hope that they will make the most of it and we get a Sunny in one form or another too.


And just like that my entire “collecting plan” for the year has gone out the window. Getting two of this guy has just become my number one priority

The Countach variant that Sunstreaker turns into was never actually built, it was just a concept idea.

MP Sideswipe is great news!! Much better than the MP Sunstorm rumors. So, are the Encore 23 Sixshot rumors false too? I actually wanted a G1 Sixshot.

Just pray they dont pull a MP Rodimus on this one I swore not to buy another MP after that one.

Weird how if I had 10 characters to pick for MP-12, I would've never picked Sideswipe, but since he's officially announced, I'm actually very excited for him now. Can't wait to pick him up.

I am also glad they went the classic Countach instead of the possible Aventador incarnation. Gives me hope we will see classic Fairlady Z mold too.
