On that note there's some disturbing news,

TCracker has now hinted that some kind of contractual issue with Lamborghini may have arisen as MP12 & MP14 won't be getting another run and Tiger Track is in doubt as the license for the Countach is apparently "gone".

He says he was told Lamborghini are being extra nitpicky which has lead to some predictably paranoid doom mongering about the future of licensed vehicles in the MP line from other TFW members and some more reasonable speculation that the paint issues which occurred with MP12 & MP14 may be why Lamborghini are unhappy.

As we already know from the VW/Porsche situation many car companies are picky about how their properties are represented so it's not unrealistic for them to possibly get pissed about something like the paint apps.

Sunstreaker was based on a concept design that I don't think was ever built so despite the obvious similarities to the Countach it would seem to require a seperate license so if Takara are able to smooth things over he should hopefully still happen.

If not it would suck but it wouldn't be the end of the MP line as we know it as there's plenty of other characters that can be made.

Hmm. Drive up the demand of the mold and increasing the interest and demand for Tigertrack? Especially if the contract is based on the number of uses, thus a limited supply. Did TCracker say that he/she was involved with TT in any capacity? If so, then well played. If not then kudos for the heads up.

Yeah, I read about the paint app speculations on TFW. There were splotches on mine. Maybe TT were rushing to get MP-12 and MP-14 out for the street date or before the licence for the molds expired, and hence the sloppy paint apps? But what about Tigertracks? Is Sunstreaker contingent on how well Tigertrack comes out quality wise?

That said, I put in an order for MP-14. You know, just in case. :lol

Makes me wonder if i should grab a red alert. Skipped him... but kinda want.
Also makes me mad that Lamborghini insisted they use auto body paint on sideswipe, instead of colored plastic.

Yeah, me too. I am hoping to trade for him...

I don't mind the paint though. Didn't have any issues on mine, and it looks fantastic!

Kiss Sunstreaker goodbye :(

I love how quickly rumour turns to fact for some people. :)

Yeah, I was going to pick him up later on. But I figure I might as well pay market value now as opposed to inflated prices later on. The fact that he's sold out at the usual places that I buy from (Automation, BBTS) was another factor.

DPrime, I think you are one of the few that I've read that haven't had some paint issues on their SS.

Teemu, I don't think that a given yet. Hopefully, TT have learned from their runs of SS and RA for future releases.

I was also thinking of RA as a "maybe later" buy. Now there's urgency, but. . .I'm not thinking it's worth $100 for a character of this level of (in)significance, even though I had the toy as a kid.

I don't accept it as fact...where did I say that?

if there is license issues,Streaker won't get made and it would be dissapointing if true............... better??

Nope. the liscense issue is with the SPECIFIC vehicle that Sideswipe is. and it's preventing a planned reissue from happening.

There is no current indication that this will in any way effect sunstreaker, EXCEPT that it might mean he gets Better QC.

Well, at least they're on the ball with the Mini-Warriors, it seems.

Be pretty hard for a small company to deal with much more than that, I'm sure. Maybe FansToys then.

Though I would PREFER Takara when it comes to any of the '84/'85 cars, personally.

iGear's announcement of 4 new characters to be released at the same time was definitely a positive step after the problems they had with the release of the Specialists and Fans Toys staying silent until QuakeWave was almost ready to go clearly helped them so whilst an official Sunstreaker would be preferable there are at least options if the licensing problem means it can't happen.

bicoid18,
That's also a good possibility as Tigertrack is an obscure character with nothing like the popularity of Sideswipe or Red Alert so Takara might well get sneaky in order to try and improve the sales.

My MP12's have the following issues,

1 finger mark in the paint on the roof of the car mode.
( I keep this one in robot mode. )

1 black splodge over a rear headlight.
( I don't display my TF's back to front so there's no problem. )

Other than that the only thing is the mismatched red on a couple of panels which seems to have been the case on all of them.

My Red Alert is fine, I wouldn't say 100% perfect but virtually every TF has some kind of minor issue even if it's barely noticeable.

If this issue means Takara have no choice but to take extra care with the QC in future releases then it could work out pretty well in the long run....it's just bad news for people waiting for a Hasbro release of Sideswipe and/or Red Alert.

DPrime, I think you are one of the few that I've read that haven't had some paint issues on their SS.

It might have been a later run or something. I had preorded it back with Soundwave, so it was likely not one of the first out of the factories. Maybe there was a running change/QC adjustment or something... At any rate, it looks great!

That said, I could probably find SOMETHING wrong with it if I really tried. Nothing is ever 100% perfect.

I don't accept it as fact...where did I say that?

Yes, much.

This is probably the main issue that irked me with my Sideswipe! I can understand some minor blotches, I can somewhat forgive the mismatched colour of the roof. But the fingerprints on the paint, that is just plain crappy. :gah: Lamborghini has every right to be protective of their brand if the speculations and rumours are true.

I'm all for high QC, even if it means delays. It just seems that TT just shipped these guys off before the paint even had a chance to dry! I don't recall ever having these paint app problems with my other TT MPs. But like Lerath said, maybe TT didn't have a choice because of the paint that Lambo insisted on using.

And yeah, I really feel for those collectors who were hoping for a US release. Everything is sheer conjecture at this point, but it doesn't look good.

Just found this out too. it's not JUST auto body paint.

It's a Special, propriatary Lamborghini auto body paint that Lamborghini makes, and was provided to Takara, and required them to use.

so, in other words, it's stuff TT had never used before.

no wonder there were issues.

Wow, really? That's pretty cool...

Holy cow, really?
I was still debating wether or not to get this...
If it has issues I might skip it... but we might never see an actual Lambo release ever again... :monkey2

Go for it.

Like I said, mine had no issues. I think they must have gotten better as they went on with production. I THINK I read something on TFW to that effect... others, like me, who got theirs a bit later and were more or less QC issue-free.

pretty sure that's the case. mine is issue free as well. I got mine from Big bad toystore back in mid decemberween.

and they look VERY COOL in vehicle mode.

saw this on Seibertron.com and thought it was pretty cool. Reconstructed Deleted Scene from original animated Movie

Devastator falls- "I have included a section of the film either side so you can see where it would have fit in. I believe this scene was animated as it exists in very late production notes & music was written to accompany it. It was cut as Nelson Shin felt it ruined the flow of Primes attack leading up to his battle with Megatron. Ultra Magnus, Tracks, Sideswipe & Red Alert were picked to attack Devastator as they all have rocket launchers. It also explains what Megatron was looking at when Prime found him."

Well thats not true about the later runs, because I got the first batch from BBTS and also the just sold out batch from TFSource and all had crap paint. EVERY SINGLE ONE, and I ordered 6 total. Guess I just have bad luck.
I also don't feel that bad for collectors that are missing out because they are the ones that keeps saying I'll wait for the Hasbro release when Hasbro has NEVER mention releasing it. I say get what you like and if money is an issue then collect $12.99 figures at Walmart and Target.

it's $15.99 now :monkey2

Here's another reconstructed deleted scene:

Ultra Magnus's original death- "In the storyboards Ultra Magnus had a much more barbaric death at the hands of the Sweeps. As you can see in the video, he is literally pulled apart. This scene was animated but removed due to concerns over the violence. There are many clues in the film that this scene should still be there. The audio matches this version exactly, Magnus sounds like he is being pulled apart. You see the Sweeps fire out 4 solid beams towards Magnus. Finally Galvatron catches the Matrix when it falls perfectly into his hands from above."

Damn. Hardcore. Did seem odd that he just exploded when he was shot in the movie. Also dig the one with Devastator, and kinda wish they would have left that in. The more OG Transformers left in, the better.

Here's my current Transformers shelf, with Soundwave and Sideswipe:
