Not really. I know people will always speculate but some of the theories that get constructed to try and explain the situation ( not that it's difficult to understand in the first place ) are ridiculous.

The one thing I take from it is that the QC on Tiger Track will likely be a lot more consistent than Sideswipe or Red Alert and I'm guessing it'll mean Takara also take extra care with the Nissans so it should all work out for the best....even if Sunstreaker has to be the Transformer equivalent of contraband

It's not confirmed yet but it's likely that Ratbat will debut with a Takara release of Soundblaster.

With Soundblaster not likely to sell as well they'll have to offer something new to tempt people and a brand new tape mold is the obvious answer.

Sneaky perhaps, but from a business POV it makes sense as it gets some more use from the Soundwave mold.

Yeah, maybe. I still think we'll get an official Sunstreaker. If it does end up being a third party release, though, no biggie, as you've said.

I have a feeling Takara will do an MP Soundblaster and include him instead of another Laserbeak/Buzzsaw.

So if that happens, I guess the question will be - is Ratbat worth $150-180 to you?

He's already coming with FIVE cassettes, apparently. Which, quite frankly, I still have a hard time believing. If he comes with Ratbat too I will be completely astounded.

What's the fifth if not ratbat? I don't know my TF tapes very well tbh. The only ones I know are Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak and Ratbat and I think all of those belong to Soundwave (correct me if I'm wrong though )

3 faces? That seems odd. Is there some reason from the comic or something where he would warrant different expressions more than other figures? Maybe Man-E-Faces drove him in a He-Man/Transformers crossover

Thanks for comments. One downside is that now I won't be able to transform Prime anymore, for it would most likely torn/scratch the paint off from some of the pieces. Then again, his vehicle form is rather dull

I wouldn't be in favor of Masterpiece Triple Changers because almost all of them have alt modes that are out of scale with each other.

Which would screw up Takara's plan for keeping everything from MP10 onwards in scale.

It'd be nice, but I doubt it for a couple reasons. First, what's the benefit to Hasbro? They know this will sell like hotcakes no matter what, especially since they've announced it'll come with all five of Takara's tapes. How many more buyers could they possibly attract at this point?

Second, Takara, not Hasbro, is the company that designs Masterpieces, Rodimus' Targetmaster notwithstanding. A true "Masterpiece" version of Ratbat would require a lot more work, and I doubt Hasbro can pull it off - both in terms of quality, but also whatever agreements the two companies have when it comes to designing these things and scheduling release.

Wha??? I think that's mainly bot modes, my friend. I mean, look at Soundwave.

I say bring on MP Blitzwing and Astrotrain, at the very least. I could take or leave the rest.

A fair point on Soundwave, but even by G1 standards the Triple Changers were subjected to a lot of cheating with the animation and large amounts of kibble from one mode or other just vanished.

That's obviously not possible with a physical object so it means that even a Masterpiece level toy will have some compromises and recreating the "clean" robot modes would be a huge task to say the least.

I'm not saying it's impossible because after Laserbeak and Ravage I would never bet against Takara but when you also consider there's little to no repaint potential I would think they'll be some way down the list of Decepticons "to do".

I think Ratbat will have been designed at the same time as the other tapes, I get the feeling Takara probably have a few designs on their computers just waiting for the green light to go into production.

Look how quickly they responded to the Fans Toys Soundwave, it's unlikely MP13 was designed from scratch in that short space of time so I think either a prototype had already been built or at the very least existed as a 3D model.

I read somewhere Takara has the next 20+ Masterpieces drawn up as 3D models and ready to go (make into molds, production). They just choose to release them at this pace.

I saw a pretty great custom MP Blitzwing that was a not so complex modification of the MP seekers. I'm sure Has/Tak could come up with something great if they chose to. But it is true that he would probably not look perfectly like his cartoon bot/alt modes, so maybe that's a deterrent.
