Yeah that's why Red Alert has sold out everywhere. :cuckoo:

Red Alert has the whole lamborghini appeal to him. Much better and flashier as a car than most other bots I mentioned. And the line is still fresh, he's only the second car release so far.

Just wait it out. I'd love to be proven wrong on this one, but Binaltech, Alternators and Classics\Generations support my point.

The MP line is as old as Binaltech and is still going. They must have a decent plan or they wouldn't have redesigned Prime. Sure it will peter out eventually, but I'm sure we're going to get alot more hits than misses compared to the other lines.

Binaltech had like 30 entries within 2-3 years [including exclusives and kiss players], MP has closer to 20-something odd entries in 10 years.

The line not being restricted to just licensed vehicles does ensure there will be more hits than misses. We shall wait and see though, with how we're going, there's about 5-7 numbered releases per year. Hope it pans out well for us.

I don't think the current MP and Classics/Alt figures are comaparable, because in both of the latter cases, significant liberties were taken with many (most) of the figures produced, and they didn't look like they jumped off the TV screen. This is not the case with the MP line, and for that reason, I think people will buy and continue to buy so long as they stick to that principle. So, screen accuracy is one thing, and the major thing IMO. But beyond that, Classics mostly look cheap and ugly to me now, and many of those figures appeared that way even before the onslaught of 3rd party and MP, G1 accurate figures. Alt figures don't look cheap, but they do often look ugly. The original G1 designs in the cartoon/conceptual artwork were also very aesthetically pleasing, having some cool design sensibilities that went into them, and the MP line taps into that. Add to this the relatively high quality of these figures, and there is a huge market chomping at the bit for them.

So, I don't believe analogies to other lines holds. Personally, I'm all in with the MP line, whereas I was lukewarm with those previous lines, even though I picked up several and did love a handful of those figures (Classics seekers and Jetfire, Alt Alert/Prowl hybrid).

Great pic. I love the jet above the other figures. Should probably do that with Skywarp.

It SHOULD be noted that the Binaltech and alternators suffored becuase of the inclusin of detailed interiors, and bot mods that looked nothing like the iconic looks of G1, vehicle modes not withstanding.

unrelated, TFsource has REd alert back up for preorder.

Ah man the MP Soundwave has the worst QC issues so far.I transformed him once and discovered some really bad paint chips on his legs when i transformed him back into robot mode. The cassettes are no better.
This is the very first time ive had such issues with MP figures.

Appearently, Robot Kingdom made some demands of MMC in regards to wholesale priceing, and got turned down. and have in response DROPPED all Mastermind creations products.

Just a heads up if anyone shops there.

Looks like Fansproject has stopped selling through them as well.

Got red alert today. Freaking awesome! Love this mold and design.

I think Knight's main point here is that Takara will end up ruining things, somehow...

Sad to say, I don't really see any reason to doubt that, but I will enjoy things in the meantime. :)

Point is, we're almost ten years on and they haven't jumped the shark on this thing yet. It means they're still putting their best foot forward and that's really good to know.

QC Question regarding MP hotrod

Were there any MAJOR QC issues with the hasbro/ Toys R us MP hot rod/ rodimus?

I know the takara one had stress marks, and was prone to breakage, ESP in the shoulders. in some cases the arms breaking off entirely.

how's the hasbro one?

The problems you mentionned are on the TRU Rodimus, not takara.

By experience and first hand accounts:

Takara 1st release: Generally poor fit on most parts, hands can't hold the guns, springs came undone on the feet, shin boots being on a knurled pin means they SNAP off when you try to move them as intended, backpack can't clip in securely.

TRU release: Much better fit on all parts, however due to the way some pins on the legs and shoulders were inserted and the type of plastic on those joints, they have a tendency to snap off. Can happen immediately, in package, or from continued use. I must have been pretty lucky because I have transformed mine close to, or over 100 times [no, really] and he hasn't broken anywhere yet.

Takara 2nd release: Employs most of the fixes of the TRU release, but recent reports indicate poor plastic used on the pin joints of the clear parts [his windshield, for instance],

Takara e-hobby black version: EVERY.ONE.OF.THEM will break at the knees. The plastic will shatter due to the way it was moulded and painted over\came in contact with parts that were painted over. Not joking you, unless you keep your sample perfectly immobile they'll most probably snap on your first day\week of handling.

So yes, Hot Rod doesn't have a good track record. If you're in the market for one, I suggest looking for an opened and used TRU Rodimus. That way you'll know that he has withstood the test of time and handling and he won't break on you as soon as you open up the box.

Wouldn't take it if I were you. He's VERY poseable, but there's only so many things you can do without any accessories. The targetmaster, matrix and the combining guns, not to mention his wielding torch and buzzsaw, are essential, in my opinion.

They made a boat load of those TRU MP Rodimus/Hot Rod figures i think since i saw end caps dedicated to only this figure at discount prices for awhile before so, i would say $30 plus shipping with no weapons is a fair price.

Point is, we're almost ten years on and they haven't jumped the shark on this thing yet. It means they're still putting their best foot forward and that's really good to know.

They've dropped the ball on numerous occasions:

Original Starscream/Seeker mold way too small
Same mold "reimagined" with hip kibble, etc.
Numerous QC issues with Rodimus
Not scaling MP Rodimus or MP-10 to Grimlock (or making Grimmy too small in the first place, take your pick)
Paint issues on Sideswipe

I'm being overly picky here, but Takara has only very lately gotten on the track we want it to be... And quite frankly, it's still too early to tell if it will hold course. I WANT it too, of course, and yes, there are some really good signs... Yet I remain cautiously optimistic.

Mine is just displayed in the 86 movie poster pose holding the Matrix over his head so there's always that. And the matrix is from the MP-01/04 Prime too so if you can get a hold of one of those, you'd be set. The one that comes with him is too small to be of any use anyway.
