I think so.

Their scaled down MP05 seems to have bit the dust as well and nothing has been heard on their PP04 Bumblebee & Cliffjumper for a long time either.

I'm still hoping they'll release Impactor & the Sharkticon once they've done with the Mini Warriors.

Sure its possible...I would think they would at least have a halfway decent painted proto at this point. I mean they have already show full protos of prowl/bstreak which come out after tiger. Id like to know more about the situation tcracker hinted at. Maybe lambo did flip ****? Ive seen these second runs for alert but no sideswipe. And im wondering if these second runs are the chinese ones that maybe takara had already produced...

Anyways just happy to have gotten ole swipes. I could live without tigertracks but just want some kind of update already.

They've dropped the ball on numerous occasions:

Original Starscream/Seeker mold way too small
Same mold "reimagined" with hip kibble, etc.
Numerous QC issues with Rodimus
Not scaling MP Rodimus or MP-10 to Grimlock (or making Grimmy too small in the first place, take your pick)
Paint issues on Sideswipe

I'm being overly picky here, but Takara has only very lately gotten on the track we want it to be... And quite frankly, it's still too early to tell if it will hold course. I WANT it too, of course, and yes, there are some really good signs... Yet I remain cautiously optimistic.

Well, I have to say that I stopped paying attention for the most part after MP03 because it was a different scale and the colors were awful. MP05 did grab my interest, but he was comparatively under-engineered. Then Grimlock came through and was a major disappointment in scale.

Then I found pics of proto Soundwave and I started watching again. The Starscream redesign was awesome and, although not quite as impressive as the first MP, the MP-10 was still very solid and more importantly in the MP03 scale.

It's also a relief that I can pose the guy and not worry about the sheer weight of his upper body breaking his plastic legs lol.

Fast forward to a few weeks back, I took the plunge and bought Soundwave, TRU Optimus, Sideswipe, Red Alert and pre-ordered Prowl and Bluestreak. I'm not nearly the fan most of you guys are, just a grown-up with great memories of the old cartoon and toys. When I see a renewed push for excellent G1 design... I gotta go for it. I don't think I've seen a line go through the same kind of turnaround this one has so I'm definitely intrigued. Call it collecting in good faith.

If you can get it down to 30, then I think that's a pretty good deal. MISB on ebay are going for about 120. But yeah, try and get that large matrix to go with it at the very least. Knightdramon pretty much covered all the QC problems to watch out for.

Finally got myself a budget JVC GZ-E205 Full HD camcorder! Here's the first camera test - now I can actually get some decent focus in closeups!!!

Done in some dim lighting (it is my home theatre after all!), so will try some more in nice natural light for better results.

It would be nice to know what the issue is, if there even was one.

The paint issue theory that's being bandied about is plausible enough but I'm somewhat dubious about that as I feel it's also possible that Sideswipe and Red Alert were only ever intended to get one run, they aren't top tier characters after all.

TCracker suggested that the "second run" we're seeing of Red Alert is for the Korean market and would have been produced at the same time as the other batch.

I'm eager to see Tiger Track as well because that mold should look great in yellow.

Oh, me too - and don't get me wrong, I really, really hope we MP fans get what we all want from this line!

Let's just say... I'm cautiously optimistic at this point.

At least it's nice to know that there are other options (i.e. third parties) out there in case Takara misses a character someone wants.

Like I said, I was being overly picky with that list. I'm not one of those guys who think we need a new MP Grimlock half an inch taller than MP-08. I LOVE my MP Grimlock and I want to see new characters in MP format, not another rehash for the sake of half an inch.

As for scale, I think the season 3 was notorious for being inconsistent.

I imagine so, but you'd run the risk of actually looking more disproportionate - in terms of Grimlock's proportions, I mean.

Seems about right to anyone who actually owned the toys.

There has been some talk about the future of MP line etc. Most likely they are never going to do all of them, since licencing issues etc. but I would be happy to see at least Megatron V2, supposing that he looks better than V1. My other favourite not yet announced autobots would be Ratchet, Ironhide, Jazz, Hound and Mirage. Maybe Bumblebee, but unless he is a VW Beetle, then there is no deal. My list for decepticons is even shorter; Shockwave and maybe Galvatron. There would be lots of other cool characters like Scorponok, but some of those most likely never get released anyways. Those above might be very realistic choices. So my list for possible actual favourite MP figures is rather short. Combiner or two would be really cool, but most of them have licencing issues. Most troublesome would be Menasor. Predaking and Devastator would be rather easy in this case. You don't really need licence for making robot animals or generic construction vehicles.

I most likely buy all possible MP releases save some IMO uninteresting repaints, but if I would have to choose only one, then it would be Megatron V2 (since I have already preordered all cassettes, Prowl and bluestreak).

No. That's why I stated season 3, and not season 1. If Rodimus were MP "Hot Rod" only, I'd call shennanigans, but since it's Rodimus, I just wrote them off as season 3 scaling, which they fit like a glove.

Now, I'm also the same guy who LOVES how MP Grimlock looks in a classics collection because of how monstrous he is. So, I'm fine with either scaling of him, but don't look at one or the other as wrong since he's represented both ways throughout the ever inconsistent G1 series.

And, honestly, I love the way you think in terms of moving forward instead of holding things up for redos. A lot of fans lose sight of the fact that things need to be held off to adhere to nitpicks. Props.

Yeah, but it is what it is.

When they scaled Soundwave to him, that was it for me. I'm fine with Prime being bigger than Grimlock (or roughly the same size, really), but Soundwave towering over Faith Leader looks odd to me now. It didn't bother me at first but it started to over time.

That said, I'm not quite ready to give up my Faith Leader for sale... not yet, anyway. I will never sell my 20th Anniversary Prime, though - he looks great with my other '80s character figures!
