V2 megatron turns out to be G2 megatron ( odds are already that this IS NOT THE CASE, but I digress)

Who would still buy?

Not me.

G1 series 1 & 2 characters or GTFO sums up what I would like from the Masterpiece line.

Where and when did these cost $20? And here I was thinking I got a steal for getting them at $40 each:lol
When they were called Alternators or, based on the small scale and simplicity of the figures, Voyager-Class. :wink1:

But seriously, are they die-cast or something? Because they're smaller and simpler than the $30 Human Alliance figures they're pictured with, but cost nearly three times as much.

Nope. not Garbage diecast in these at all. they can actualy be posed.

complex transformations, G1 robot modes. excelent articulation, and ( though not nessacary) liscensed alt modes.

Best G1 toys in years.

I'd also like to point out, that when alternators were 40$, gi joes were 4$, marvel legends was 10, and deluxe transformers were 7$.

not to mention Sideshow was probobly 40$, if around at all.

time passes, prices go up.

Simpler than those Bay-Formers in what sense? I recall the Sideswipe having an incredibly complex transformation. Simpler aesthetic, sure. But regarding price, $80 is the markup for those sold in the U.S. You can order them from Japanese import sites for closer to $50 a pop.

And to be fair, they're only about $40 without any import markups for a very-near cartoon accurate robot and vehicle form. And while they may transform the same as Alternators, I'd chalk that up to them just "nailing" the transformations down and as good as they were 10 years ago, I can look at that line as Takara using that line as a stepping stone to get to where these MP's are today.

I think they could have made the spine and maybe the feet on MP-12 and MP-14 diecast like the way they did on MP-10 to give it a little more heft.

yes human alliance are great , here is my custom soundwave , alternators were all plastic , binaltech had diecast on it

Seriously?

Alternators were nothing like the present generation of Autobot cars because,

1.The robot modes were severely compromised by large amounts of kibble, and in most cases it restricted the poseability which detracts from the fun factor.

MP12,12T,14 and 17-19 have very clean, almost kibble free robot modes which is perfect for the G1 aesthetic.

By comparison most Alternators look a mess.

2.The transformations were needlessly complex, possibly because of the decision to give the cars full interiors.

First and foremost Transformers are for kids and I think that the demise of Alternators was partially because they weren't the kind of thing that a kid with a short attention span would have had much fun with....this is also the reason that Hasbro gave to explain why the last lot of Bayformers were more simplistic that the ROTF line.

The Masterpiece transformations are just involved enough to be fun and that's all they need to be considering they're G1 characters.

3.None of the alt modes were accurate to the originals.

Sideswipe and Sunstreaker as Dodge Vipers?

Prowl as an Acura?

I don't think so.

I think we should hold off ranting and going on about the "new" generation of autobot cars in the MP line until we have more.

So far, there's only two unique moulds, three if you want to include Convoy.

I do think that later BT figures were very, very unique and impressive and many could be thought as V2.0 of older ones, but the first ones did suffer from the aforementioned issues.

Most of the flaws in Smokescreen were corrected and improved on Jazz.
Tracks' and Sideswipe's best parts were refined and combined on Override.
Grimlock's brutal robot mode was refined slightly for the Prowl mould, namely the fact that the doors\shoulder pauldrons would move around each time you moved the arms, and so on.

I think they could have made the spine and maybe the feet on MP-12 and MP-14 diecast like the way they did on MP-10 to give it a little more heft.
Pretty sure the last MP figure I had with die cast was "space rust" Megs. That I can do without.

And I really dug the alternators at the time. In fact, they were the primary Transformers I collected for several years. But they just don't work for me aesthetically in relation to what the 3rd party companies started doing a couple years ago, and what Has/Tak are doing now with the MP figures.

Nah...

Well, maybe a Hasbro version. On clearance.

Yeah, what's with being cheap on a forum dedicated to Sideshow and Hot Toys??? :)

These things are definitely worth the price. Comparing them to Human Alliance garbage, wtf...

Alternators was - or maybe could have been - the perfect contemporary update to G1. Better than Classics, that's for sure.

Smokescreen, Silverstreak, Hound, Jazz, Mirage, Tracks and Sunstreaker were stellar. Sideswipe and Wheeljack, a bit less so but still good.

Things got a bit odd with the Decepticons and Grimlock, and Prime as a pickup. The final straw for me was Prowl NOT using the Subaru mold...

Had they released a Subaru Prowl, new VW Bumblebee, Trailbreaker as a pickup, etc... That's the direction I would have liked to have seen it go. It kind of petered out, though. I think they were too focused on the licensed/super-realistic car aspect on it, to be quite honest. That worked well for the '84 and '85 Autobot car characters, but trying to pigeon-hole Grimlock, Ravage and Shockwave into that didn't work for me.

Yeah-the mps are 100% worth it and imo in a complete different class than the human alliance or alternator stuff (although there were/are some alternators i really liked). I have not had this much fun collecting transformers in a while and I have been a fan of all of the mps so far (some more than others). I have never wanted to hoard a figure as much as sidewipe. Friggin love that mold/sculpt. The lamborghini is awesome but bot mode just friggin kills. Love it.

The alternate mode for v2 Megatron does not matter to me so long as the robot mode looks like the cartoon. He could transform into a toaster oven for all I care.

That's the point if they go G2 he'll look like a tank in robot mode as well...

If they do go G2 then they can get to stepping...no way I want that piece of turd fowling up the place.
