Tryin' to make a good film around limitations is what makes these films good to begin with. If James Cameron could use CGI back in early 80's we'd get Terminator Gaynesys instead of one of the best sci fi thrillers ever made.

Agreed... Cameron would blow his CGI load all over The Terminator if he made it today.

He did give us T2 which was a good mix. But now, it's just easier to do it which a cheap CG artist.

But T1 is Sooooo much better :)

F/X have nothing to do with that though. T1 is just a perfect film. T2 is good though just not near as good as T1

How many times did good movies were ruined by bad effects
Bad effects can limit and ruined a directors vision

I think T1 is a great example of bad F/X not ruining a good movie. Some of F/X for Arnolds head when he was taking out his eye are pretty bad.. Even back then.. The T-800 is obviously stop motion and the Future scenes have some bad dummies in the back of cars.. But none of that effects the film. A great film should be able to stand on its own.

But I am sure there are some good films that may have been hurt by bad effects.. I just can;t think of any off the top of my head.

Instantly thought of this also....

It’s been shown time and time again that the reason Jaws worked so well is how little they showed the shark....

A Jaws remake, even now, would be tragic....might as well remake The Godfather also....

I think they showed the wolf the perfect amount....which is to say, you wanted to see more......

Same with Jaws....

Exactly!!!!!!

Is that the prequel to 47 Meters Down? ;)

Even though the movie was so so I was actually shocked at how realistic all of the shark footage looked. It might have even had the most realistic sharks of any film (other than Open Water of course.)

:lol I knew I should have looked the films title up :lol

Some of the shark effects were great.. The last shot of the shark coming up out of the water after Mandy Moore was an amazing effect.

There is a film "Kon Tiki" out there where they are on a wooden raft and they catch and kill a great white... Those are the best CGI shark effect I have seen.

Khev I know I said this to you before during our Shallows debates but you need to watch The Reef if you have not yet.

I will say this, there is no way this will be anywhere near as good as the original in all aspects, practical effects, charm, music, etc.

With that said I do love werewolf stuff, I find them far far more appealing than vampires. If they do the new movie as well as the scene from the Revenant with Dicaprio and the bear that would be amazing.

I hope they expand upon the curse a little, not saying to make it a focal point but a little exposition with mystery would be nice.

Has anyone seen The Howling???

whats your favorite werewolf movie

Probably American Werewolf In London, the shame is that there are not that many good ones in my opionion. I know I will get a lot of flak for this but a great CG representation was the werewolf from Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman.

Silver Bullet while by no means a great movie, has a really interesting scene where they are talking about the making of the Silver Bullet itself, it has this eerie mystical feel when they are describing it.

I still remember you recommending that film and I probably check Netflix a couple times a year to see if they ever pick it up but so far nothing. :(

Curious to know how you feel if you ever see it.. Probably built it up too much now.. :lol

The Howling is a great one.. Funny thing.. There is only one werewolf caused death in the whole film..

Yes.. I love a great werewolf film but there are not that many.

AWIL
The Howling
Dog Soldiers
Ginger Snaps

Bad Moon is OK

Underworld 1-3 are upper tier Werewolf films but as you have pointed out.. That is not saying much since there are not that many good ones.

Of course there are the classics.. The Universal and Hammer films.

Never been a fan of Silver Bullet... More Werebear then Werewolf.

Its not really Silver Bullet as a film and I agree more werebear, but its the scene describing them making the silver bullet that gives off this cool vibe.

Lets all just hope this doesn't turn out as bad as the Fright Night Remake, good god that was horrible.

The Howling is my favorite werewolf movie. Great Rob Bottin special effects. Great story.
It’s a shame it never got a proper sequel instead of those silly direct to video sequels.

An American Werewolf In London is also a classic. They were two werewolf movies, released relatively close together, both with great special effects, but pretty different from each other, in their approach. I really like werewolf movies, but can think of very few great ones. But I would put both The Howling and An American Werewolf in London on that short list.

My favorite movie in terms of werewolf is the wolfman remake.
That werwolf make up looked amazing. And the werewolf is very well acted. I could feel the savage nature of the beast. The sets are also beautiful and it has a great instrumental horror soundtrack
The visual style of that movie and the wolf design were very well made. I really appreciate what they did with that movie.
I know the story is a little messy on the theatrical release but the directors cut is much better and works a lot better.

That movie has some of my favorite werwof scenes ever made. When he runs through the city after escaping the hospital is my all time favorite werewolf scene.

The Del Toro one? Yea, he looked pretty good and the transformation and following rage in front of that group was awesome. Too bad the rest of the movie was meh.

I love when he throws the doctor that kept messing with him out of the window :lol :lol

The gypsy town attack was amazing too. You really got to see just how brutal and truly dangerous a werewolf really is. How vicious and blood thirsty they are.
Ive always loved that even the gypsy dancing bear was like "oh hell no, im OUT of here!" "Lol :lol

I think hugo weaving was really great as the detective as well. I really loved the entire cast.

That movie had a much better werewolf than van helsing and the make up might be my favorite werewolf make up ever made.

Not a fan of "Wolf" (Nicholson movie) JAWS?

I like parts.. I hate the werewolf vs werewolf stuff. Its OK but obviously I find it forgettable :lol

Not a fan of this one.. I was not nuts about the running through the city moments because I hated the close ups on his face as he was running around (Catwoman type shot there)

I also hated the werewolf vs werewolf in that one also.

I thought Larry Talbot was very boring in the film also so I had trouble caring about him.

Film had a nice gothic look though.

That fight was a homage of the old universal monster movies specially Frankenstein vs the wolfman.

The close ups while running were great because it was done with practical effects bro..... come on! That really was him running not cgi
