My fear with the material is its gonna be shiny and slick in person on top of possibly the color being off.

That's my fear as well. Really, the color of it is not a major issue. I'm just hoping the material itself looks a lot better in-hand than it does in those pics.

To me, it looks an awful lot like the material used on Bespin Luke's jacket, so maybe use that as a point of reference.

The new fabric looks like what they used for ANH Leia, which is bull^^^^ considering they raised the price for this figure.

That just sounds crazy. It doesn't look at all like her dress material.

It looks to me more something like the ANH Han's shirt material.

I understand the dissappointement with the change, but it looks to still lay nicely on the figure, that's why it doesn't bother me so much. If the change was like the Anakin PF where the overall look got ^^^^ty, I'd be upset, but it looks like the fit and how it lays on the figure isn't all that different from the prototype.

IJ is exactly right. Anyone defending the ^^^^ about the tunic not being inferior is ^^^^ing kidding themselves. The paint looks fine on this one but the tunic is cheaper and the hair is too dark. I'm kinda getting sick of this ^^^^ with SS, see one thing and get another. You don't see this to this extent with medi or HT.

I like the figure, but like IJ it is disappointing. I might cancel the exclusive and get it cheaper after seeing the high res pics.

I didn't notice how bad the new tunic looks until comparing them. The proto tunic was much better, like it came straight off screen. The new one looks blah so far.

Yeah, I definitely agree that the prototype looks a lot better..... I will just have to wait and see what the actual product pictures look like. The Han looks great in my opinion with a repaint but luke looks like he may need more than just a repaint.

As long as the material is not Nylon or another synthetic... it will be somewhat pliable and you can get it to look exactly like the proto with just a tiny bit of work. I think it looks fine... but it will look GREAT with that little work. :D

These new pictures have gotten me thinking about the old Hasbro tunic. I think it actually may be good alternative for the SS one....

Sideshow really screwed the pooch on Lukes tunic.
This was really shaping up to be a great figure but its stuff like this just makes you shake your head.
I wish someone from Sideshow would explain stuff like this to the fans.
Whats cheaper than cotton sheeting fabric, which looks likes thats whats on the proto?
Sideshow couldnt secure enough bolts of that proto fabric or what?
Pretty bad when the fans have to swap out SS parts for Hasbro parts.

Exactly. Another SW figure from SS i was looking forward to that i'm having second thoughts on(at least from them directly). Is there anywhere i can vent my frustration to them in a more personal manner?

"As you can see from the substantial costume and accessory list, we have set out to give Star Wars collectors the most comprehensive and iconic version of Luke Skywalker ever released in 12-inches! WE HAVE SPARED NO EXPENSE in tooling and fabrication to bring you the absolute best and most detailed Luke that we can offer, despite the rising cost of manufacturing overseas."

It's not a matter of cheaper fabric - it's finding a fabric in China that closely matches the fabric used on the prototype. Sometimes it can't be done.

If they imported the fabric to China, these figures would be even more expensive.

(OK - I took some dramatic license with the quote)

I have often wondered. Are you married to someone at Sideshow?

I have an extremely hard time believing there isn't any fabric in all of China that's much closer to what's on the prototype.

The more logical conclusion is that there was a brain cramp in production or they punted. Again. :banghead

Here, Krayt, I'll edit the Jan. 16th comments to what they should have said:

I am really starting to worry about the likes of Anakin PF and the Indy stuff again. Sideshow seemed to have turned a corner with the ANH Ben and Palpatine, but things have begun falling back a little since then. Absolutely inexcusable given the new prices, imho.

When you consider that most of the clothing made in the entire world is made in China, it does seem just a tad unlikely that they couldn't find more suitable cloth to use.
