Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

looks much better without the hood in MHO, most are definately gonna want the ex here, but my wife already has the pf and it looks far superior, so I think I'll have to pass on this one.

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

IMO this will be the only line we'll see the whole fellowship.. so those on the fence might want to choose. :)

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

You were saying........:lol I know I'm stealing your favouirite phrase, but "I hate so say I told you so" :nana:

I guess that was a bad day for you as far as making predictions is concerned Anthony! :lol

Well, something tells me SS won't have any trouble selling this one, it looks stunning!!

Well, I may have been a little off, but more pictures of the hooded version haven't improved my opinion of the face sculpt of that one, the un-hooded one however does look pretty good.

As for the exclusive deal, at this stage I don't get it, how is the hood on the back disapearing with the switch out head, does that mean the hood sitting down, has a thin attachment to the switch out head. That's going to have to be a very good fit without some funny seems showing. Still, I guess we will find out when they ship.

As for the price, that totally doesn't surprise me, if you have that money, would you just buy the PF anyway?

Even so, it's generally looking a bit more promising, not that I'm going to get it or the Gandalf one, but with luck, Arwen will turn out really nice.

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

I really like this, but it is $100 more than the earlier polystone statue. Looks like a promising line, but that is more than I can afford.

Yeah, just a little.....:monkey3 :lol

As for the hooded/non-hooded debate.....I really can't see SS sculpting two entirely different Aragorn's faces for this maquette. They didn't do it with the GTG PF and I can't see it happening here. I think the problem is shadowing, and unfortunately SS only produced one close-up hooded Aragorn pic. without the shadows present. But clearly, based on the two side by side photo's the sculpts look identical....at least to me they do.

I'm assuming the neck is attached to the hood, and the hood lies on his back. I think that's why the head angle on the hooded and non-hooded versions is different. Still, there certainly isn't a noticeable seam, at least not from what I can see.

I'd have to think most PF collectors already own the PF. For people like me who collect both 1/6 scale and 1/4 scale, or for people who simply don't care for fabric on their statues.....this will be a great addition.

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

I just got to look at the pictures some more, I am very happy with the way it turned out. I agree that this is the best Viggo out there (used to be the p.f. , till they changed his eyes, in my opinion). Even my wife likes it, which says a lot.

I prefer fully sculpted over p.f., for sure, and I like 1/6th scale over 1/4, and although I wish the price was lower, I am going to order it. I have looked forward to LOTR collecting again for awhile, and this is a good kickstart. Exciting time for me, considering how it turned out and how good the GTG is looking.

I just hope that we get enough bad guys and creatures in this line.

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

I just saw the pics and all I can say is I LOVE THIS MAQUETTE!!!!!:clap:rock:banana

Sideshow, how could I have doubted you?

Just posted by Trevor. The hooded/non-hooded facial sculpt's sure look the same to me. Since Trevor made no mention of two separate sculpts I have to assume they are one in the same.

Now I understand better. On the hooded, unpainted version, the eyes appear as they should (to my eye). It's the painted version where the right eye seems to droop.

Well, it must be the light/shadow/paint or something then, since to me, the hooded version still looks more off.

Not so much in the prototype, but it's got to be there somewhere. As long as the production version matches, then with luck it won't be an issue.

I guess short of ppl that just don't like PF's, anyone who doesn't own or wasn't sure, not has a few options. The most interesting next step will be to see what impact on prices this has on the others, especially the PF and to some extent the dio's and finally Weta's statues.

Would you say now that no more Aragorn's are needed.....

I'm pretty sure it's simply a combination of shadow and head angle. Just to be 100% sure, I've PM'ed Trevor with that very question.....if anyone knows, it'll be him.

I absolutely love this maquette, but if a see another Aragorn after this one in the next few years I think I'm going to be sick......:sick

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

OK, I've just heard back from the master himself and it has been confirmed......the hooded and non-hooded facial sculpts are indeed identical.

Trevolver said:
Heya Collin! I'm SO relieved this ended up looking nice. I really tried hard to do a good job on it, and the initial preview was...underwhelming for sure. I'm happy to see such care was taken in the paintwork.

The headsculpts are identical on both the hooded and unhooded piece. The hair breaks away in two parts, and the hood slides on in two parts down the seam. Once it's patched, you can't hardly tell.I think what's happened is Sideshow tried to shoot light front on, and the shadows of the face are very unflattering. So...in theory, there should be no reason why the hooded portrait should look inferior to the hoodless.

Thanks man! So happy to hear you like it.

Re: Aragorn Maquette Teaser

Thats why I'm saying its the shadows making it look a bit different. Same exact sculpt and Trev nailed it. Dude can rock his craft.

That he can. Without a doubt, the best sculptor out there. :lecture
