The simple way that I can tell you is, look at it as a re-mastered movie. Fox rushed AVP onto Blu-ray, and didn't do a good, clean job on the codec. The blacks are blues, not true blacks.

When they re-release it, it will look better than it does now. Worth the wait.

Now that Blu-Ray has no competition, they don't have to compete on price anymore. They should watch out, if the government deems them to have a monopoly on HD DVDs, they could be in for some tough trouble

They do have competition... DVDs. They now have to convince the standard buyer that BRs are worth the upgrade. Having lost HD, Toshiba is now going back and claiming with upscaling, your DVD's will look exactly the same -- which is of coarse complete nonsense. This Christmas, there is going to be a HUGE push from Sony to compete -- and prices will come down. I don't understand this whole monopoly argument, Toshiba has a monopoly on DVDs, and that is OK?

I still see good sales now. You can STILL buy I Am Legend, a new release, for $18 on amazon. You can buy No Country for Old Men from amazon for $23. You can buy Blade Runner, the complete collectors edition for $27 from amazon. The Rambo Boxed Set is pre-ordering for $34. Chronicles of Narnia is pre-ordering for $23.

These are all great prices, and great movies.

Amazon makes up about 2% of all Blu-ray sales in the US.

Conversely, Wal-Mart currently accounts for 40-50% of Blu-ray sales. And the prices on Blu-ray movies there are not that great at all. AND IT'S WAL-MART! So until BD prices at places like Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy start dropping considerably they're still pretty overpriced in the overall market.

Dude, I love Blu-Ray. I was actually glad that they won the format war. That has nothing to do with it. I don't know why that's so hard for you to wrap your little mind around (before you get pissy, I'm obviously having fun with you )

I just agree with the article that Sony has not lived up to their end of the bargain by dropping BR player prices after the war was over. I don't even think I would've minded if they had stayed the same, but to see them increasing 20-30% is terrible. It would be like Microsoft saying that they were going to raise the cost of the 360 after it'd been out for two years. Don't you think there would be an outcry then?

And you should care because the less people that have BR, the less BR movies are produced and the higher the price. BR is still competing against standard DVD and is only a niche market right now.
