I might start campaign tomorrow, I've been bored out of my mind since I haven't gotten a new game in awhile and that would be a good distraction. Me, you, and Solidus should do campaign and get raped in MP :lol

Yeah, I haven't played the game since 2012 when I got the plat and coming back now after so long it's a lot of fun!

He should make a new IP if he leaves MGS. A ZOE sequel wouldn’t make sense if he has something to prove.

He CAN'T. MGS is a cash cow and no way is Konami letting that go. He's been wanting out since MGS2.

How many times has he said "I want out" already? MGS2 was going to be it, and then MGS3 pops out. We thought for sure he wasn't directing MGS4, but lo and behold after death threats and fans urging he comes back yet again. His biggest creation is also the bane of his existence. I think he's tired of MGS frankly, but Konami pays the bills so...

You have to understand, Kojima was once upon a time, one of the most respected man in videogames. Not only that, he does seem like a guy who loves his fans, and tries very hard to please and intellectually stimulate them in a way only he know how. To compare him to EA or Capcom was unimaginable at one time, but it's sadly becoming all too real. I love Kojima, I used to summon the word "genius" whenever someone criticized him, but nowadays I find it something very difficult to do. Deep down I'd like to believe he's a man desperately trying to escape his own creation.

But that's my point. GZ is not on par with any of the above problems I enumerated. He has been upfront that this is a prequel, and not the full game. EA would not have done that. He has changed his pricing structure. Is it still too high? Maybe, but again full priced games release and are barely playable. He seems to be crafting GZ with as much love and care as MGSV. His status as a genius will always be a matter of opinion. As far as him wanting to escape MGS, most artist do want to move away from the thing that makes them famous at some point. The keyword being artists. I think he still has ideas, and wants to play in this sandbox, and new tools(open world, etc) may challenge and reinvigorate him. Or it may prove his burnout. Until I play I won't be able to say. I want both GZ and PP to bring him back on top. And I would love to see him stretch his creative muscles and try something new.

Yea I know, but I’m saying if he to leave, he would be better off making a new IP instead of ZOE.

Well, he stopped using that "this is my last MGS" since Peace Walker. I have to admit I was hugely disappointed with MGS4 the first time beating it in 2008 because it seems to have less of a soul than the previous game. I know there's no quantitative way to measure it, but it felt like Kojima was much less passionate in making MGS4 than the previous games.

If anything, I think Kojima is only making MGS to take advantage of the technology. MGS4 was all about top notch surround sound, HD visuals and blu ray storage. PW was about going around the technical restraints of portable hardware plus social integration and MGSV is all about the FOX engine. Gone are the days of sequels where the mad had something truly special to tell, and Kojima ends up as a slave to his own child.

I agree with you on MGS4 and PW, but this seems like he really has a story he wants to tell. We won’t know until we play it of course but it seems like one of the strong points so far.

I genuinely hope so! But for my own sake, I hope it's not a Japanese Schindler's List. I don't wanna play a game where the tone of the game is presented with emotions usually associated with cutting one's own wrists.

ZOE3 was going to happen, but I think Konami axed that because it's not on the same level of sales that MGS is and MGS is their last horse they have to run.

Yup, they had a whole ZOE event for the HD collection announcing ZOE3 and concept art. As im sure you already know.

They then said production has halted to see how well the HD collection does (not well enough apparently :()

My guess is all resources are going to MGSV. The story/concept etc for ZOE3 is already done

It was a prequel to the Anubis era right? I remember the frames were supposed to be organic.

I think they had this at the HD release.

Trying to "escape his own creation" while being trapped in creative box from a big corporation has to be getting to him. I still think that he's capable of flourishing with new ideas that push discourses on social and political matters like he did in MGS 1 and 2. But, I think those themes have already been exhausted with MGS. Peace Walker pushed the absurdity with talking mechs and advanced AIs without any sort of takeaway on a deep philosophical discussion that you'd expect from a MGS game. And to an extent, the same can be said about MGS 4 - which ended up being like Michael Bay's rendition of MGS, with gratuitous action scenes and explosions to distract us from the lack of substance in its storyline. Like we were discussing before, the series is just existing right now without any passion, and for the sole purpose of cashing in some paychecks.

I don't think Kojima ever wanted to be like the typical corporate guy that he has turned into right now. He needs to somehow break free from MGS and find his way into another series to get rid of the stigma that's been affecting him as of late.

But that's my point. GZ is not on par with any of the above problems I enumerated. He has been upfront that this is a prequel, and not the full game. EA would not have done that. That's a moot point. GZ isn't a full game, just as much as TPP isn't a full game. It was clearly understood months ago that MGS V was going to be split into parts. But, no one expected GZ to be this short as it is right now.

There was a time, when all of those Sandbox tools were going to be used in a new IP called "Project Ogre". But, as Kojima's fate would have it, he was forced by the corporate heads to turn it into another MGS game.

I think this series is far from a quick cash in. Say what you want about MGS4 but I never thought Kojima's intention with that was to tell some incredible story to handle all these underlining themes. In my opinion it was supposed to be a huge action epic,to close the series with a bang, and it shows. He answered pretty much everything the fans could have asked, whether we liked those answers or not is a whole other argument. There was a ton of fan service and homage payed to the other games also.

As a total package, the game was a technical marvel, a ton of effort and passion shines through MGS4. Before most of us had time to digest what we experience in 2008 almost everyone was claiming it as a masterpiece.

MGSV looks incredible and oozing with passion. Kojima truly seems excited about it. The latest interview Snake Eater put up, Kojima seems
So giddy, like a little kid when he was being asked questions. Every trailer has been too notch, he's having fun trolling the fans more than ever with this game, and a brand new engine has been built for this. I can't see how anyone can think this is a cash in.

Yea Ground Zeroes is being released so they can make a pretty penny, but if it's worth the price then everybody wins. We haven't played the game yet so I can't say if it is but so far word of mouth from the people who beat it has been very good.

Everything? As a direct sequel to MGS 2, MGS 4 fell drastically short of the grand themes that made that game so unique. At least with MGS 1 to 3, Kojima told unique tales of social memes, nuclear deterrence, striving beyond your genes, etc - and those elements served as the corner-stones for storytelling in this series. And in that regard, it's absurd to just cast aside the underlying philosophies of MGS and write it off as just an "action" series. I seriously have to wonder if you were playing the same games that I was - or if you were too distracted by the pretty graphics to notice the greater things that were at play in the background :lol.

Kojima tried to wrap up MGS 4 in the most ludicrous ways possible with cop-outs that didn't make sense - and that's not fan-service that's done well. Most of us were pretty excited, and bought into the hype when MGS 4 came out. On the surface, it's a very nice looking game with good mechanics. But, it's just not a very good MGS game, in the way that its storyline felt rushed and extraordinarily incoherent.

Nice contradiction there :lol

Where's the contradiction?

The point I am trying to make is, each Metal Gear has that different tone. MGS4 was undoubtedly the transformers of the series but I think that exactly what Kojima wanted. A big action summer blockbuster. Even the trailers
resembled a big summer action movie.

The game was getting nothing but praise when it released. The story was never meant Be complex. Some of the answers to certain questions did feel cheap, but overall MGS4 was a very impressive game as a total package and I personally felt it was a satisfying ending for Solid Snake.

You might think it's not okay to drop the heavy themes and such but the game was a success in every imaginable way, so Kojima did something right with that game.

Been chasing the plat and fighting those crazy Japanese. I swore they're using a mouse to aim. :lol

If you feel like it, let's all do some multiplayer someday. :duff

You'll cut the amount of time to plat in HALF with a partner, I'm just glad my buddy is starting over just like I am. Those camaraderie points are insanely time consuming, and it will deduct your points if you play with too many people. :slap

i use a mouse to aim......................

I like controllers. A mouse and keyboard are nice, but I've gotten used to aiming with my thumbs now.

Edit: 10,000th post! :panic:

MGS4 didn't even seem like it was in the same universe as MGS2, like it was not connected to it whatsoever. Everything with the S3 plan was just ignored and was barely even acknowledged. It was never explained how humans even receive orders from the A.I.s at all which always bothered me. Sure it's probably them just manipulating digital information to enact their will, but it was never actually stated. MGS4 was very lazily written, and the whole Johnny & Meryl thing has got to be the most embarrassing moment I've ever seen in gaming. Johnny should of stayed a B level character that just made cameos.

Whenever I see you guys argue, all I can think of is "SHAUN! SHAUUUUUUUUUN! SHAUN-SHAUN-SHAUN-SHAUN!"
Fawk Shaun!
And I'm still not happy about paying $70 for a demo!
Also, beginning my sentence with "and" has me most upset.

One of those Eagle Eye thingy, Jason?

I had the split fish fragfxv2 but I bought it a couple times and it kept breaking. I even bought the wireless model and it bricked on me. I now have the aimon PS and I've never turned back. Its wireless, remappable, has definable turbo, you can make the motion do whatever you want, everything is tweak able. I love this thing and won't move to ps4 without buying another. Its basically like a Wii nunchuck for the left side of the controller and a mouse for the right with the shape buttons at my thumb. The biggest advantage is to be able to use right stick and shapes simultaneously, a thing you cannot do with the ds3/4.
