It's not even about that...it's about enjoying what we have. Two weeks ago there wasn't even the slightest hint that an Ash PF would be created. Now we have a very cool representation of Ash in PF quality and people are complaining about the way he leans...that's extreme!!!

This went from being possibly great to just okay. The outrage is not as huge as the Boba PF debacle because this is not SW but it's still worth pointing out the flaws. Each flaw of this PF is not deal breaking on it's own. It's the fact that there are so many little flaws that prevent us from focusing on the good. They add up real fast.

It just boggles my mind that people can zero in on the neck length or position of the arm without saying what is great about the figure first. If the length of his neck truly bothers you that much I really feel bad for you...it's that simple!

All we got is some pictures to go by. Those of us that own a few statues have some capability to look for certain things that may be overlooked by the so-called Sideshow experts. They are not infalible and there is plenty of time to improve this piece.

To think that someone who loves Ash wouldn't purchase this piece because his neck appears to be too long needs to reassess something...

At $250 plus shipping I believe it. being a fan doesn't mean you have to put up with inferior product. Pointing out what could be improved, if anything, makes you more of a fan because you care enough that want it to look it's best. See? another way to look at it.

Solid...I see we enjoy the quote button :D

The reason Ash looks skinny is that the clothes are a bit baggy...especially the pants and the entire right arm.

It just seems that everyone is over eager to jump on the "hate" bandwagon.

There have been many, many pieces, from Darth Vader PF to 1/6 Aragorn, that have gotten lots of hate, but when they actually arrive the majority of people are happy with them.

Dave do you ever get tired of every few weeks breaking up fights and calming people down? i know i would.

I have been staying out of this thread so far, especially since it got so heated, but I do think there is a bit of overreaction going on. Is the piece perfect? No, probably not. But then, very, very few pieces from the PF line have been perfect, and NONE of them (except maybe Obi-Wan) have come from human likeness subjects. The most-praised pieces have all been either non-human creatures, comic book characters, or armored/robotic characters, where there is no specific living person/actor represented.

With that said, I don't think most of what people have proposed as "problems" are really anything more than tricks of lighting and camera angle/distance. If I had a dollar for every post that was made in this forum flatly announcing that a particular piece was an abject failure, solely based on what were later proven to be less-than-stellar photos, I would probably be able to buy Sideshow's entire product line, and have a fair chunk of change left over ;).

Do I think there are things that could be improved? Sure, but I don't think any of those things are deal-breakers...yet. For example, many have complained about the "lean". The problem is that artist commonly do this to statues, to try to lend more of a dynamic appeal to the subject -- to make it seem more alive. Look at almost any statue in any of the PF lines, and you will find that the figure is rarely balanced equally on both feet. Heck, even the John Wayne PF has a similar "lean" to the Ash figure (though perhaps not as pronounced, but we don't know that for sure yet). And in the case of Ash, I suspect that the artist was trying to imply some of the characters brash bravado, his swagger, when deciding how much "lean" to give him. When you look at the iconic photo, it does appear a bit more "stiff", and would most likely appear so when represented in polystone. Again, I don't know whether that change really works yet, because I haven't seen enough adequate photos. But, I have a hunch that many opinions will change once SDCC photos taken by attendees begin to surface.

Finally, I put together a little GIF for everyone, not to prove any point one way or the other, but just to give an accurate basis of comparison between the photo of Bruce, and the photo of the PF. Enjoy:

Well now hold on pard'ner, John Wayne is/was about as close to perfect as I have seen. As an owner of this statue, I have to say that it comes about as close to lifelike as I have seen; only looked over because of character interest.

I do agree with your post though, well put. :clap

The Spike PF in the Buffy line is also pretty darn close to perfect. Of course, the final product hasn't been released yet.

Special edition DVDs of both El Topo and The Holy Mountain will be coming out in May. There will also be a box set with both movies and soundtracks. I'll definitely be getting them... It's been years since I've seen them.

Sorry to pitch in so late, but I saw El Topo at Cannes last year, with Jodorowsky in attendance. It was an HD screening of the digitally-restored print, and it looks just about perfect -- no scratches, no aging of any kind, and no cuts.

I couldn't make it to the screening of The Holy Mountain, but I assume it was on par. These are the prints that will be used for the DVD and HD releases, and they're pure joy. :joy

I pre-ordered him yesterday. My initial reaction to the photo's was:

"Huh, he sure is leaning in a strange way."

But in the end I still love the piece. And it's not like there's a huge variety or supply of "Army of Darkness" merchandise on the market.

Plus I think this might be another example of a piece that will look better in person (which seems to be the case with most of the Sideshow pieces).

I gotta wonder looking at those 2 shots if anyone at sideshow did the same thing and thought to themselves..."They're gonna cream us on the boards over this." I know I would have. I think I could maybe even get over the giraffe neck if he didn't look like he was going to fall over. So bummed out!:monkey2

Can someone post a side by side of this and Boba PF. The torso and legs look very similar in pose.

Not that it matters but is this not a publicity shot from Evil Dead 2??

I mean it was the end of EDII were we see that the castle is up on the hill behind Ash. In AOD the castle was not in the same area that Ash landed.

I was thinking this because in all the shots that everyone has been posting I thought to myself that Bruce looked a tad skinny. He got into much better physical shape for AOD.

It is not from the bomstick speech. I am sure of that much.

So I guess my point is that I hope he gets a bit more mass.

Reading this entire thread, I understand both sides of the coin, but I just have to have this... c'mon.. it's Ash. Who cares if he leans or not?

So I pre-ordered him. My fiancee is looking forward to having him in our bedroom.

Interesting! :lol

My wife is actually disappointed that he isn't coming out until the end of the year.
