One thing that's now driving me crazy: the blob of flesh on Gothmog's left arm should be way up on his shoulder. And it would look like its ripping out of the material -- not like someone strapped a hamburger to his bicep.

Mod #2: That piece needs to be raised and the material around it cut and tattered.

It's almost as if they got confused between his shoulder and his elbow, and opted for the wrong one...

It looks as if you could put it on upside down, and further up his arm, which should pretty much position it over his shoulder

Is the blob of flesh glued onto the clothing? Or can it be easily removed? I would just glue it to the body and expose it through the clothing. I am not one for modding my figures, but this one would drive me nuts.

My thoughts exactly...

It's attached to the undersuit. I will dismantle mine this evening and post pictures

Gooooooooooooooooooooood! *rubs hands together like Palpatine*

No matter if there's glue residue as that cordoroy should look way more weathered anyway. I think this little mod will go along way to making Gothmog look more accurate and nasty.

Well the lump of flesh is glued. But unfortunately there is a hole under it. My next goal is resculpting the whole shoulder and trying to blend that lump in there.

Wel I've dismantled him fully. I can post pictures of all the bits if people want me to, but for now I'll just show the pertinent ones.

Here's the arm lump issue:

The lump iss attached with a blob of glue which goes through a hole in the outer garb and attaches to the inner padding. Removing it leaves a hole. However, the sleeves are a bit long for the arms, so you could quite easily just stitch the hole closed and incoporate it into the general weathering of the outfit

Nothing wrong with a few holes in Gothmog's outfit. Needs to be ratty anyway. The stitching could work as well -- even leaving some long strings so it looks like its deliberate.

the padding under the suit is black felt; once the suit has been darkened, with the armour in place and the the figure posed, the hole will not be overly noticeable even if nothing is done about closing it. Added to which I imagine most people will pose him with this arm bent. This will cause creases in the fabric - with a little bit of futzing, the hole could be effectively closed off using these folds, just leaving a slightly tatty edge which would be in keeping with the character

Out of the box this figure is great. With a body swap, it's fantastic. So much presence, and it just looks evil. I hadn't expected this, but of all the 70+ figures I own, I think this is one of my favourites. And I've not even attempted weathering it yet.

Here is a photo with the lump moved - it's just tucked under the jerkin sleeve and held on with the strap:

I'm definitely going to swap bodies on this I've decided. I want to achieve that hunched, head forward look and I'll need abdomen articulation to get that. Right now, Gothmog stands too tall and proud. Makes his head look narrow.

This gonna take even more work than Witch-King to make right. But as long as I have to remove the undersuit anyway to dye...

Yeah looks much better with the fleshy blob moved up, it is a shame about having the hole there. I still may do it and consider the hole as "Weathering"

I took a look at the behind-the-scenes photos of Gothmog and Skully from the Return of the King Extended Edition last night. To be fair, under normal lighting conditions, the costumes actually were that shade of red. It's only after the colors are altered digitally for the film that it got toned down. And for Gothmog, there was less of the red poking through the armor than appears on Asmus' figure. I think this may be a case where our mental images of these costumes are influenced by our collectibles - namely, the Weta statue and the Toybiz figures.
