Re: Untitled 4th Avengers film (May 3rd, 2019)

The Russo’s gave us 2 back to back movies centered on CA and he is poised to be one of the main characters in IW2 so him taking a backseat in IW1 made perfect sense.

I mean you’re complaining about Cap taking a backseat for half of a movie since IW1 and IW2 are literally the same movie :lol

We are talking about 30 main characters here IW is not Superman 78 or Batman 89 with just ONE HERO to focus on!

The shared connected universe means just that a shared connected universe.

Sharing is caring lol

The problem isn't just that Cap took a major back seat. The problem is that NONE of the characters had more than a few seconds of downtime between fight scenes where we just focused on character development. Civil War had no problem giving characters plenty of downtime to develop them and give almost every one of them an arc. I would have gladly taken a longer movie that actually had some character development in it rather than just what was essentially a 2 hour fight scene that only had a few seconds of dialogue for the sake of getting characters from CGI action setpiece to CGI action setpiece.

Is it really too big of a task to go 5 minutes without a fight scene?

Still the greatest Christmas action movie ever made!

Not just best Christmas action movie but easily in the top 10 best action movies of all time.

Does Home Alone count as an action movie? :lol

DH was a big middle finger to Rambo lol

The MCU was purposely structured to have an epic 2 hour fight scene event movie that’s what 10 years worth of character build up buys you.

You are complaining about the core component of what the MCU is supposed to do!

IW is the equivalent of that big comic event splash page.

You want individual character build up simply go watch their respective movies that’s how the MCU works but IW was about Thanos.

IW was a call to action!

jye and I disagree a lot but I will have to agree with him on this. If IW had taken, let's say, 5 minutes to develop each of the 20+ main characters (including the ones we've already been introduced to), can you imagine what a snorefest it could have been? I don't need nor want any more of Hulk X Natasha or Wanda X Vision dulling down the story. IW finally gave us Thanos' triumph which is what it set out to do.

If Avengers 4 somehow managed to drop the ball then that would hurt IW greatly, but since the Russos have two pretty great films on their resume, I still remain optimistic.

Still my favorite gif reaction you used against crows I remember it like it was just yesterday :lol

But I agree with you IW1 would’ve been 12 hours long had they fleshed out every main character that’s not what IW was meant to be their seperate movies serve that purpose.

IW was here is Thanos finally now stop him go!

Boom boom boom action!

As it is once it’s all said and done IW1 and 2 will be a 5 1/2 epic grand finale.

Re: Untitled 4th Avengers film (May 3rd, 2019)

Okay after chatting about it here I went ahead and watched the original Avengers on blu from beginning to end for the first time since before TWS. Wow, yeah my criticisms were totally off base, lol.

I freaking loved it. :lol

I was braced for Cap's dumb uniform but it didn't ruin the flick and he didn't even wear the goofy cowl for that much of the run time.

The movie just had a great vibe from beginning to end.

*Loved* all the seeds of future developments! Seeds of Civil War with Steve and Tony squaring off against each other on the helicarrier, seeds of IW with the Chitauri invasion and constant references to the one who was really pulling the strings (and obviously Thanos himself at the very end.) Even little things like Loki asking Thor if he'd ever not fall for the hologram trick which would have a huge payoff in Ragnarok. After Russo-ized BW you really know that her Russian interrogators are toast right from the get go in her opening scene, lol. Even just hearing Vision's voice as Jarvis, holy hell the amount of seeds that played to full fruition later on. Really unbelievable.

And that's *just* the universe building aspects of the film because the movie itself was still great as a self-contained story with tons of satisfying arcs. I had forgotten a lot of the great little moments like Hulk trying to pick up Thor's hammer, Tony's line about pissing off one last guy "his name was Phil," and all the Chitauri ganging up on Hulk to blast him with like 20 chariots at once. "Galaga" was still hilarious, lol. The visuals still hold up as if it were a 2018 film and the score is one of the MCU's best. I feel really stupid typing all this out so I'll just stop and close with "I stand corrected" on dismissing this movie these past few years, lol.

And I saw it 100% cold! I was 14, my mom was out of town and so my dad and I just saw a picture of the guy from Moonlighting holding a gun and thought "eh, why not" and then were utterly blown away to see McClane, Hans Gruber, and literally one of the greatest action films in the history of cinema play out before our eyes.

I wouldn't have said it better. That particular criticism might apply to some other films but I wouldn't lay it here. In any case I think there was enough potent material in there anyway, otherwise I wouldn't have had any feels about that ending.

Love the Cap/Tony stand-off and ''put on the suit, lets go a few rounds........(to the serious) put on the suit''

Hulk also had a great build-up. We hadn't seem him since the Norton film so that helped but they did a good job of creating tension about his first appearance on the Hellicarrier. Somehow you don't take for granted at this point that he is capable of allying with anyone even though you know he ultimately will.

Pfft. Die Hard 1 is boring, not like the hi-octane modern pace of its superior Die Hard 5.

Despite being top five in the MCU and lightning in a bottle, little things that bother me in A1:

Cap looking like a cosplayer at comic con in that suit :chase
Cap pretending to have a radio in his ear to communicate with Stark (it's not there, I've looked :lol)
Tesseract able to grant mind control powers by tapping on the chest
Mind control powers gone by simple knock to the head
Black Widow able to master alien weapons within seconds of use

Umm there's probably more but I feel jye's eyes on me. :lol

And yes jye I just preordered six cases of super-deformed AOTC figures, lol. I already want to watch A1 again, lol. And holy crap I couldn't help but chuckle more than once at how profoundly superior a six year old teamup movie was compared to JL. :lol

Re: Untitled 4th Avengers film (May 3rd, 2019)

His hair and beard was enough for me. :lol

I just don’t get those IW complaints of certain characters taking a back seat.

Just based off what Feige was saying in 08 I knew to put on my seatbelt because the ride was going to be all over the place.

But even then Cap made out alright.

FA: Cap centric
TWS: Cap centric
CW: Cap centric
Avengers: Cap centric enough
IW1: Not Cap centric
IW2: Cap centric ie; HOLY CRAP DID HE JUST DIE! :lol

Cap even had great cameos in Thor 2 and SH!

Srsly not tryin' to change anyone's mind here - IMO movies are like "art" or books and folks see what they see etc.

For myself - and who knew it'd happen 10 years ago? there's some major arcs or stories going on that I follow, in a way. Cap - with Bucky, Falcon, Natasha. Tony and Bruce.
Thor. SW and Vision to a degree. And then there's Hawkeye and Rhodey and now Black Panther.

Unfortunately for me IW1 reminded me way too much of reading George Martin's GOT "Feast for Crows." Or maybe it was "Dragons" - anyway, so after a LONG wait I wanna catch up with the main characters, right? 'Coz I CARE about them. Except at some point Martin wanders off in the story, introduces new characters, just seems to be wandering around, new character gets char-broiled so why bother, and I'm flipping pages looking for anything about Tyrion.:google

So I wanna know what's up with Cap after 2 years, right? He stood by Bucky but still reached out to Tony. Russos talked about how Bucky isn't Bucky Barnes any more but if he's not the Winter Soldier, who is he? How did Natasha track down Cap and explain why she showed up? How is Falcon holding up 'coz he's ex-military too and now he's a fugitive? What capabilities does Bucky's arm have? When did T'challa and Bucky agree that Bucky, if needed, would fight for Wakanda? Who knows, 'coz the writers of IW sure didn't bother.....

Not to mention these are some of the MCU's best fighters, in the comics too. Was expecting a lot more than everyone lines up, everyone gets a few blips or screen time, and then another superhero landing for Thor. Far as I can tell there wasn't a heck of a lot of point to the Wakanda battle - T'challa might as well have put everyone into the palace they could have played cards until Thor showed up:google (tho IMO the Outriders were cool - rotten meat looking and creepy:love).

Also what was up with lines like "u will pay for his life with yours" when Corvius Glaive is like, pretty much alive:monkey3 - there was other script sloppiness which surprised me with the Russos.:horror

Anyway IW wasn't the movie I was expecting or hoping for. IMO with Cap & co. major players - and my favs, too - IMO they were in the last 1/3 of their story. So IW 1 and 2 should have had a LOT of Team Cap. Plus, I'd just seen the Guardians, Spiderman, Thor:rolleyes:. Plus, IMO IW1 could easily have been what I was hoping for with some tweaks. Originally Chris Pratt had said the Guardians weren't playing that much of a role, but it was important. So I don't know how that mushroomed into there's hardly a scene in IW1 without these characters. The draggy faux-Shakespeare scenes didn't help (- gawd I missed Thulsa Doom:cool:)

Russos and writers are telling the story they wanted to tell their way - for me - tho there's some stuff in IW1 I like, there's a lot I don't:(, and don't see why they took the approach in the first place. Execution is important too, the way one scene flows to another and IMO IW1 was uneven w. some script problems. Anyway CM being shoehorned into IW2 for me isn't anything to be enthusiastic about. I already feel cheated of what IW might have been story-wise e.g. better balance and execution vs. uneven pacing and slapstick comedy:(:slap and feel bad 'coz don't think IW2 will be any better. But that's that...not like the Russos are gonna re-edit stuff.:peace

And even with small issues like those, not one single MCU movie post-2012 has surpassed it IMO.

The only ones that come close are TWS and IW.

Yep. Same. I was even expecting it to be cheesy and terrible; I didn't like Willis at all on TV. Instantly won me over in the first 15 minutes and just kept going. Couldn't believe how jacked up with excitement I was when leaving the theater. One of the true great movie surprises in my life.
