It was sad to watch the big screens get diced up into multiplexes in the 90's... now it will be sad to see multiplexes die in favor of an even smaller screen -- your phone.

I wonder if that mean multiplexes will be reconverted into giant super IMAX halls for the 8 - 9 big movies a year worthy of the $75 ticket price in the future?

I would hope so, since Thanos just had the biggest movie in history open 4 months ago.

Ledger's Joker is 11 years old... and people still reference him often, in this case just off one word: six.

No way Thanos has that kind of staying power. People will still be talking about Ledger's Joker in another 10 years but I doubt too much about Thanos. The fact that's he's a CGI cartoon doesn't help him in the long run. I think people will talk more about the 'snap' than Thanos.

Of course people will still talk about MCU Thanos in 11 years. 11 years is nothing. Hell you and I specifically will probably still be talking about him on this very site 11 years from now. :lol

As the years and decades pass Ledger Joker will be just another variation along with Nicholson, Phoenix and the other 10 actors that will play him before we die. But there will only be one Thanos and what a statement he made. :)

Despite that record... people still talk about the Joker more than any MCU villain in 22 films.

That in itself must be some kind of record.

It's understandable, the Joker has been a cultural staple since the 60s and is often the star of the show.

Interestingly, there are more references to the infinity gauntlet itself everywhere than there are of Thanos.

Thanos is about all you can talk about from the MCU line-up of villains. But they will drive this train into the ground, look at the inane line-up of Marvel stuff for Phase 4. Thanos, and his accomplishment, will be buried by another 20 films over the next 10 years. His accomplishment will be done again and again by other super villains. Maybe even a more interesting villains. I see Thanos in the rearview mirror already. People will catch up.

I think Ledger's Joker is much more of a tent-pole moment for the character. A completely different take that doesn't come along very often. Even Nicholson's Joker was in the same campy vein we were all used to. Nolan changed everything we thought we knew about the Joker, and Ledger made us all buy it. I don't think his portrayal will be drowned out by a few more attempts to capture lightning in a bottle. If anything, they will help cement his legendary status as one of the truly great comic book movie villains.

Did you really just parallel me with AOC... you little ****!

You truly are on my **** list now.

:lol :lol :lol

I suspect that you're probably right about MCU Phase IV and beyond though. We'll just have to compartmentalize "The Infinity Saga" like we do for SW OT, ALIEN/ALIENS, Terminator 1 and 2, Indy trilogy, etc.

You know how I love IW and always will. Endgame, eh, not so much. But IW I can watch over and over. So I'm a Thanos fan. Especially given the sad state of villains in the last 10 years of the MCU.

And, conversely, while I'm not a huge fan of Nolan's Dark Knight saga, Ledger will always be the outstanding light from that trilogy. I respect more what Nolan tried to do than what he actually accomplished as a whole... but his Joker was spot on. Two-Face, Catwoman, Bane and Talia... eh, not so much.

For anyone outside the US who doesn't know who this woman is consider yourself lucky, lol.

I'm not from the USA, but I think she has a lot of good points. Then again, I only got interested in US politics because of this forum. :rotfl
