Even if Max wasn't a true "rival" in the business world I saw him as at least enough of a nuisance/thorn that Bruce would still have his hands full dealing with him. As for him being a "moron" at the end, I don't know, I just got a big chuckle out of Shrek both insulting and respecting him at the same time. Bruce, you pathetic nothing, why are you dressed as Batman, a legendary figure? I thought it was great.
Nice reflection on BR. The only thing I would say is that Max Shrek is not really much of a challenge at the office for Bruce Wayne. Max wants Bruce to invest in his energy plant scam and Bruce basically calls him out for what it is and says heck no, so that probably annoyed him, but he can't touch Bruce in the corporate world, he's not a threat to him there at all. Sure, because he is funding/working with Penguin and the Red Triangle Gang, he amplifies the threat to Batman but until the last confrontation, the "moron" doesn't even know they're the same person.
