The gap between the tires and fender wells looks kinda big there...

The front wheels are turned to the right, that's probably what you're seeing there

Probably true but I don't remember a steel bar running across the middle of the cockpit.

It's there in some scenes. In fact in the very first appearance of the Batmobile ("Get in the car." / "Which one?") as soon as the cockpit opens, you can see it. I'm guessing it's part of the mechanism that pushing the canopy open, but it's removable for those times that it would interfere with a shot. And the "nub" part that it comes out of or attaches to is clearly visible in just about every shot where the canopy is open.

I rewatched that scene and your right! I've watched that movie hundreds of times and never saw that bar! I have noticed the nub before. DarkMagic your knowledge of the 89 batmobile is vast! I will now hang my head in shame
