Re: Hot Toys Batman 1989: 1/6th scale Batmobile Collectible Vehicle - Specs & Pics

From the pic, the shield looks like that cheap flimsy material. As we allwere I was hoping for thick plastic like it looked liked in the promo pic. Was hoping to display the car and shield, as two items. Makes you wonder now why they never showed it off before. Now lets see it light up.

Yea my fear is the shield will be made of plastic similar to that terrible cape holder that comes with the Batpod. I guess we' ll get a better idea as more pics come out.

Couldn't care less about the shield personally. No way I'm going to display this beauty covered by a solid cover. But it will work as a decent dust shield. It was an afterthought, but not sure what people's expectations of it are, it was basically a panelled shell? It wasn't very impressive in the movie.

Agreed, it will be a great COVER while I plan the long term solution to display it.

Sweet lord.
Suddenly those $93.5 I'm being charged for shipping don't seem to matter any longer. I can't wait to have this!

Couldn't agree more Fiend...apart from one thing...

I've got this to pre order next week hopefully and I feel the same way about this car as I do about the 89 version. My two favourites!!

Damn this thing is freaking cool

Re: Hot Toys Batman 1989: 1/6th scale Batmobile Collectible Vehicle - Specs & Pics

Shields are too shiny. Cancelled.

Just kidding of course. Seriously though, like others have said, it looks like the shield is made of the ultra cheap plastic of the kind that was used for the re-release Batpod cape holder and very similar to the kind used for the old ToyBiz 89 Batmobile shields. This may be one area where the Toynami Batmobile has this beat....although I think those shields were sold separately, right?

Yeah, the Barris and Furstmobiles are so much more visually interesting than The Tumbler. From an aesthetic perspective, I feel like they "pop" more. I'm not dogging on Thr Tumbler, though, it's much more complex than people give it credit for, with all of the various panels and parts, but I think all of that is a bit subdued by its utilitarian design. At the end of the day, we're impressed by it, but we're impressed by its bulk, in the same way someone used to driving a car is impressed by a tank. It's just one, imposing, badass mutha.

The two that I mentioned above, though, could "really tie a room together," as The Dude would put it. There is something about the Furstmobile that, pardon the expression, is just sexy. The curvatures of it, and the vents, and the turbine in the front; it all just comes together to create something beautiful.

The Barris Batmobile, though, is bold and brash, and you can tell which era it comes from just by looking at it. The vibrant neon Red traversing its body, the parachutes on the back, hell, even the bat-phone; it wears its camp on its sleeve, and you just know that the only person who could be behind the wheel is Adam West.

Overall, though, I know no one asked for my opinion, but the "what's better" thing always gets me, since each one has their own merits.

:exactly::goodpost: Each of the Batmobiles brings something to the table. I love something different about them all. My favorite panel in the comics is during the Batman Hush storyline, Batman and Nightwing are going to chase Riddler, and Batman says lets take the car. You get a fold out panel showing all the different cars throughout the years. I don't think the Tumbler is in that spread, as i don't think the movie was out yet.

Re: Hot Toys Batman 1989: 1/6th scale Batmobile Collectible Vehicle - Specs & Pics

So seriously - a lot of us are out of time in trying to figure out a way to display this. The top of my bookshelves are not wide enough, my detolfs are not wide enough, hell, my dining table could barely hold this thing. Suggestions I have seen:

-On top of a table (like a coffee table)
-custom made case
-aquarium
-re-purposed bookshelf
-the floor
-play with it and then box it

I really want to display this puppy beyond using it as a doorstop or displacing my meals. The aquarium idea is most intriguing for me, but boy does that suck up a ton of space. At the same time, this is one of those things that deserve it. So for those who definitely know how they are going to display this monstrosity, what do you have in mind?

Cheapest, in my opinion, is get yourself one of those cheap craft tables and put a black display cloth on it. This is how I have my 6ft Titanic displayed and it cost me less than buying a display case/and or an expensive dedicated table; if anything this could serve well as band aid until you find a permanent solution. And once you do you can still use the craft table for other projects just folded up in garage. Here is a pic of what I mean. :exactly:
As for the real estate this collectible will take, you will just have to have it or box it up as many have already suggested. Good luck! I hope you post some photos when you get it.

So with that said, will you guys be joining me in pre ordering the 1/6 66 Batmobile?

Curious as too why they didn't give the shield the same matte finish the car itself has. It needs a nice satin matte coat over it and it'll look better. That box is HUGE though. I feel bad for my UPS driver. :lol

Oh yeah, I'm excited.

7 more days till this baby ships. I'm glad I didn't hesitate and ordered this on day one, it really does look like a masterpiece so far. Now let's see those lights.

That's the only thing I actually care about it. I imagine we're going to see a ton of damage boxes for this. UPS drivers will likely toss this thing around the car since they don't want to full carry it because of the weight.

I thought about just having it held for pick up at the station like I do with most of my SS orders but I may go ahead and let my UPS guy bring this one to me. :lol

That shield will act as a dust cover since I doubt I will be able to display this inside a case or buy a large enough acrylic cover.
