That's what I love about the New 52 costume, it's a good balance. You have a realistic "armor" component, while also maintaining the identity of the classic Batman costume. I love Gary Frank's take on it, in particular:

All in interpretation. Lee's is more armor-esque. I kind of like that approach, actually. It seems like a lot of the other guys just ignore that and make it fabric, though (Capullo's torn the **** out of that guy). I just like the design, though. Fabric or armor, I don't care, but I dig the fancy patterns, and it's got a nice aesthetic to it.

I'd like to see something similar to the Arkham games design, yet realized like the Captain America Avengers costume (i.e. fabrics, not rubbers). It looks like it would give adequate protection, yet not be cumbersome on the wearer. Also it would be cool to see it get damaged and have raw armor plating showing underneath.

I remember a panel in a story, might have been broken city, where batman takes off the top half of his costume and is sat there wearing a sort of bullet proof vest/armoured vest which was underneath. I always loved that scene and would love to see something similar in a new film. A proper fabric costume but over the top of some body armour.

Yeah, I'm tired of black-armored Batman, too. It's time for something more comic bookish. The Arkham Asylum games and some of the recent comics have shown that this can be done without Adam West-like tights.

Agree 100%...I loved the way he looked in that Batman vs Aliens and Predators Youtube short film...That was the closest costume to the comic book version IMHO...I loved the Joker's look too in it

Great short film. Joker looked a bit cartoony for my tastes though..

I think the costume in batman dead end looked great and worked brilliantly for that short film but I wouldn't wanna see something like that in a new feature. But I agree something like the Arkham games or just based around the new 52 design would be cool. Preferably grey and black to just change things up a little but still keeping that dark tone.
