Speaking of skulls, I find it interesting that superman is surrounded by skulls again like in MOS, but this time they're alive and it's real, like death trying to touch him or something...very powerful imagery, imo.

The people in the pic all appear to be Hispanic. Certain Latin cultures, especially Mexican culture celebrate the "Day of the Dead" to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

My guess, Supes crashes the party to save the day south of the border, and tosses back some Corona's.

Here is how i believe the movie Will plays out.

Spoiler:

A year or two have passes after MOS, Supes is now fully active, helping all over the world.
Planet is going crazy, debates weither he should be trusted or not.
Some adore him like a god (well he saved us from these Alien invaders) other hate him (he brought them here and the battle caused massive deaths) both probably fear him. The world is in turmoil and holding its breath about What Supes Will do next.
So Pa Kent was not so wrong after all...
Bruce Wayne was in the center of Metropolis (probably to meet with Luthor) when the **** hit the fan and saw the destruction first hand.
He s been the Batman for a while now, keeping a low profile, fighting thugs in alleyways.
But the arrival of these new beings, of this killer god is a game Changer, he must up his game.
Someone must be able to stop that powerfull being just in case...
Luthor is suspicious of Supes, probably tries to befriend him at first, he pays for a huge statue that is an hommage to The savior of Métropolis.
He offers him a team up, he will put his fortune at the service of Supes, private army, weapons.
Meanwhile Luthor works with the governement (Holly Hunter) on the tech salvaged from the kryptonian wreckages, they need a contingency plan just in case...
Especially now that the several superbeings they have been monitoring, and in contact with for years are more active since Supes debut.
Enter Wonder Woman, Aquaman.
Supes is conflicted but might accept some of Luthor s help to make the world a better place.
But some of his action or of his legions of supermen (the private army Luthor offered him) become more and more questionable.
Batman is obsessed with Supes, he assist Luthor into develloping new tech, keeping some for himself.
His actions in Gotham are less and less discrete, Lois and Clark are sent to investigate.
Supes intervene on one of Batman s run. They dont fight... Yet. They size up one another...
Supes orders Batman to stop What hes doing, both warn each others. Next time they meet it wont be as civilized.
Meanwhile Governement and Luthor have develloped a new weapon/ai based on the kryptonian tech, its Metalo.
Batman on his side used Zod s armor to built his own. He keep doing his stuff in Gotham, provocking Supes.
Time for the big fight.
Batman has a secret weapon, akin to the kryptonite maybe something that creates a kryptonian athmosphere in a short area.
Something that was develloped by Luthor and the governement (who know about this weakness since the world machine incident in the pacific).
Maybe Luthor is playing the Batman too, and gave him the tech.
Supes suffers but gets the upper hand, he is pushed by Batman to the limit (not unlike Zod) but refuses to kill again.
Batman realises that Supes is just a good Guy trying to do the good thing but is overwhelmed by is own power and the world around him.
That he wants help to save the world, he cant do it alone and that he know that by now.
Luthor who hoped that the two would end each others is furious and convinces the governement (An indestructible being associating with a criminal doesnt sound to well) to unleash Metallo on them, but it gets way out of control.
Wonder Woman and Aquaman, who we met before (WW is rumored to be active and connected to the Governement) join the final battle.
The Justice League begins.

I probably missed a lot of details, or its completely wrong but it works pretty well with all we know or seen so far
