I read it, but I also saw you bashing it the other day I thought the SSF hate might have gotten into your head. I get most here don't like it, but here, they pretty much find everything and anything Nolan does to be subpar, if you look everywhere else in the world, TDKR was a major success.

To me most directors have a specific point where everything before that point had a certain vibe or quality and everything else had a different vibe. For the there is Memento -> The Prestige Chris Nolan, a filmography that puts him among the greatest directors ever, IMO, and then there's Inception -> Interstellar Nolan. I enjoyed Inception, TDKR, and Interstellar but to me they can't compare to any of his previous works. Except maybe with regard to TDK and TDKR. Obviously TDK is the better "film" but I do find it a bit dull anytime the Joker isn't on screen. TDKR is silly but more fun throughout because you've got Bane and Catwoman and all the cool "The Bat" flying sequences.

Funny I just watched Interstellar for the first time last night, and thought it was a terrific movie. I enjoyed it way more than the Prestige.

ROTK is pretty much the only Part 3 in history made by the same director that was universally well received.

Doesn't have to be great/good to enjoy/like it.

Just as you don't have to like something that is considered good/great.

Wyatt Earp is a better directed, written, acted and accurate film than Tombstone. But Tombstone is the better movie.

Yes but I just prefer that studios don't roll the dice in such a way that I might fall on the "hater" side of the fence. :) TDKR was a huge reduction in quality but I still enjoyed it. SM3, not so much.

Now that I've experienced all the whimsy and banter that Marvel Studios throws at the audience, I don't even hate Spider-Man 3 like I did when it first came out. Some of the things I faulted like Emo Parker, the 70s vibe, humor and that street dance, I really dig now. Most of my problems with it stem from too many characters, not doing Harry Osborn justice, and contrived things like the retcon of Uncle Ben being killed by Sandman or the butler taking care of Norman's wounds or whatever sorry excuse they had. TDKR has that same third movie BS. Alfred's lame, forced dream of seeing Bruce in Italy when he supposedly vacationed there every year, Bane and Talia being ninjas and Bruce never knowing about them, etc.

Another similarity between Spider-Man 3 and TDKR is that I got bad vibes as soon as the opening scenes started. There's something really awkward about Peter Parker's V.O. about how life is great and Spider-Man is a hero to the city with a "Spider-Man day" much like that awkward ***, unintentionally funny "Bane on a Plane" scene that follows up with a . . . Harvey Dent Day. I remember thinking, "what the **** am I watching, this is the follow up to Spider-Man 2 and the Dark Knight?!". :lol

At least something like Alien 3 has the audacity to punch you in the stomach and say, "this world is ****ing cruel, Hicks and Newt are ****ing dead in the most despicable way possible and Ripley is impregnanted", DIGEST that!

1992 was an interesting year for sequels. Both Batman Returns and Alien 3 were upsetting and unsettling to me but I've still found them both to be compelling works of art that I can't dismiss.

I think I must have gone to see both movies nearly 10 times.
Flawed but genius both of them.

I don't mind ALIEN 3, either. Especially the Director's Cut.

And that's the thing with changing directors. If you don't like SM3 or TDKR you're prone to go "what the **** was [insert previous director's name] thinking? What happened to him?" If Alien 3 had "Directed by James Cameron" in the credits people would think he was nuts and had so screwed up a good thing. But at least for me when it's a new guy I can still appreciate him giving us his "vision" even if I don't agree wholeheartedly with it. So if a movie is poor when it's by the same director it just sucks, but when it's poor and by a different director I can at least respect it more. :)

Even Batman Forever. It was a weird departure after B89 and BR but I like the alternative vibe that Schumacher brought to the franchise. Then of course "director does one too many" syndrome kicked in and we got B&R.

So after four years what's the conclusion, Bruce died and Alfred was dreaming or he lived? :dunno

Everyone died and the montage is a hallucination Bruce has while dying from radiation poisoning as his brain bursts like a cooked microwaved hotdog.

I wish Colin Treverrow wasn't directing Epidode 9 though. :lol
