I wish Colin Treverrow wasn't directing Epidode 9 though. :lol

I thought JW was exciting as hell but I am a little apprehensive about Trevorrow's love for CGI over practical effects and his comments about Episode IX "respecting and honoring ALL previous films..." Please don't try to make Gungans cool Colin. Just don't.

You and me both. A dog with a note in its mouth could have directed JURASSIC WORLD.

Actually, I had a dream a few weeks ago that he was fired and replaced by Michelle Maclaren (which also made the SJWs shut up). I was pretty pissed off when I woke up and realized it hadn't actually happened. :lol

Big mistake letting him direct IX- just because JW made a bunch of money. Narrow minded Disney only sees $$$- be prepared for another trilogy ending misfire unless he has a script so good ...well I think he will have a big say so on the script...

It wasn't just Disney. He made Kathy Kennedy's husband (Frank Marshall) a crap ton of $$$ with that blah movie. I really think he sold them on it and this was also kind of a personal "Thank you." AWFUL choice, though. Likely Kennedy's only misstep, so far.

And, yes, Rian Johnson is writing the treatment for IX, but Treverrow will be overseeing the completion of the actual script. :banghead His writing is even WORSE than his vanilla directing!!

I think you guys are being to hard on Trevorrow. He's a heck of a crowd pleasing director. I think that if Episode IX is subpar that it will be "ROTJ supbar" and not "PT subpar." I bet it will still have a lot of great moments even if the overall film is somewhat lacking.

Yes but the thought of Fincher closing out the trilogy didn't seem ideal and I've wanted to see his take on a SW film ever since he was heavily rumored to be a candidate for directing one of the prequels.

The Fincher/Star Wars boat sailed long ago, I'm afraid. He doesn't appear to be even remotely interested in it anymore.

Again, he didn't bring a single thing to JURASSIC WORLD (except to heavily dumb-down the script). Any neophyte could have directed that film, particularly since almost all of the action scenes had zero direction and were just dressed up Pre-Viz. He's a total cipher. The stuff he was most responsible for (the script: character stuff and dialog), sucks.

Treverrow was basically a hired 2nd unit director on JW. It was planned and puppeteered by the producers and Spielberg. A cash grab film. I enjoyed it, it was silly fun but it showed zero creative or directorial flair. It worries me everyday that this guy is gonna be closing the trilogy, I hoped in the back of my head that Spielberg would take over or be behind the curtain.

It will be a big gamble to let him do IX. Yeah Kennedy wasn't thinking OKing him....we needed a much better director/writer to handle the very important finish for these characters. I'm thinking Rian will deliver a great film..which will make it so much more difficult to folow up with him involved

Finally someone I can agree with on FR. :lol

I am there for you Jye :)

Only speaking for myself, I was most impressed with the overall package of the film, not any specific aspect. Everything worked extremely well for me. Action of course being the main thing, since that is 90% of that movie. But also the characters were great and memorable, and little moments, like Max coming back with those weapons, the bad guy with his dead baby, and Doof Warrior, really stuck with me. Though it was a sequel of sorts, it ended up being more refreshing and original than the vast bulk of comic movies in many ways. And I think it taps into some primordial masculine drives in a way that I'm not sure any movie I've seen has done. Certainly I would rank it higher than any Marvel Studios film. If any comic movie I've seen beats it in terms of its ability to tell a good, cinematic story (and even though it's been nearly a year since I first saw Fury Road, I'll concede opinions could change with time), it would probably be Begins. X2 is probably still my favorite comic movie, but I'm a biased, lifelong X-Men fanatic.

Now Star Wars and Ex Machina. . .those are some over-rated movies :monkey3

Cool... Far be it from me to tell anyone what they should or should not you like (you should like JAWS though, if you don;t you are a dolt ;) ) My comments were directed more at the critics and Oscars as well as the legion of fans that loved the film.. I am just sort of shocked by it. Sort of like I was for Avatar... But i see people are coming around to seeing Avatar for the average / bad film it is.

Don;t get me wrong though.. Fury Road is WAY better then Avatar :)

I agree. And since Episode XIII and IX are spoken for that would leave only a much less prestigious "anthology" film for him to direct. Not gonna happen. :(

Well, there will be another Saga trilogy, so...

But I still think Fincher will have no interest.

Well he DID come up with Zara's death which was pretty much the defining moment of the film. So I expect that Episode IX might have a "holy ****" moment or two....

Again I'm not saying I would have picked him but I think he's definitely "safer" than many other directors that were probably in the running. I just don't want the trilogy to go full ****** after how great TFA turned out (yes I'm still *that* scarred by the prequels.) So if Kennedy went "safe" for Ep IX then fine, I'll take it.

That said if he DOES bring back midichlorians, Gungans, feature Jake Lloyd flashback scenes, etc., then I'll definitely be right there saying "You were right about Trevorrow, tell your sister, you were right..."
