karamazov just IM'd me that the "dark 80's stuff" sucks and that I should go with these instead?

As Darth Vader said in the Specialized Super George Edition of ROTJ: "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

KINGDOM COME is beautiful, huge Alex Ross fan. I would leave it until after those 3 mentioned already though. everytime I look at Ross' work, I wish someone would make a movie in that style, with coloured Lycra and crazy suits. It's the perfect interpretation IMO.

I'd also love an Earth X movie

On a somewhat related note are there any "classic" WW trades? I literally have no knowledge of her save Lynda Carter, Super Friends, and now BvS.
George Perez's reboot after Crisis is held in very high esteem. I also enjoyed the John Byrne stuff from the '90s. He was past his prime, and I don't recall them being great, but they were good, fun reads.

Killing Joke, TDKR and Year One were my most loved books as a teenager. I loved Arkham Asylum for the incredible artwork as well.
Of course, those are the essential reads. And also the ones I was most familiar with, apart from a smattering of comics I had, including almost all of the Knightfall stuff. At the time TDKR was probably my favorite, though now I really really like Year One. Killing Joke is masterful, but hard to compare since it's so short.

Another Batman story I really liked, is the often overlooked Year Two stuff. Though it wasn't a masterpiece, I like it because Alan Davis was involved in several issues, and did the follow up graphic novel Full Circle. And Mike W. Barr was a very good writer in his own right. His run with Davis on Batman and the Outsiders is one of my favorite things DC.

I enjoyed Kingdom Come, but more for the art than the story. Just like the 12 part Justice League/Legion of Doom thing Ross did years later.

I wish DC still did movie comic adaptations. They stopped doing them after Batman Begins. They were really cool and always had deleted scenes.

Would have loved one for The Dark Knight and Batman v Superman.

Dark and grittiness is never the problem I have with Batman or DC, its the quality and direction of the film which is a problem with, the film is more style than substance. The film like I said felt to me much like DC never pacing itself, its like someone going on an all night drinking binge from 7 pm to 3 AM, by the time doomsday comes around its puking its guts up, the film burnt the candle at both ends.

That is why I like the MCU, from 2008 present of their 3 phases, we never got an avengers film so quick, there were jarring moments of some of their phase 1 films, but when we got to avengers assembled in the 6th film it felt like a big deal, because they took their time. Hell still since Thanos was revealed at the after credit scene at the end of AA in 2012, still thanos has not been touched, they have built him up. I so wish we got Batman vs Superman in about film 4 or 5, so when these 2 clash it feels like a huge deal. They could not be patient with batman and superman, they had to do it now and even then the movie title is deceiving at best. Icons like this need to be seen has a big deal, build up the battle of these 2, and they could not wait which frustrates me so much
