That All-Star Batman & Robin stuff (and Dark Knight Strikes Again) reminds me why I'm glad that Brian Azzarello is (co) writing Dark Knight III: The Master Race. :lol

Snyder has ruined cbm about as much as any director who has directed one.

TWS might have great action and Cap has been written very well so far but lets be honest about it, the "espionage light" plot is still pretty shallow.

If WB has a better BvS waiting to be released then so be it, I get the reason for releasing a shorter movie.

Superman/Kent not having his gosh jolly personality is not enough to ruin BvS for me, theatrical and all.

I hope he squashes a bunny rabbit in the extended.

Yeah the above is just crap. BvS has inspired me to finally bite the bullet and pick up the original TDKR trade though. Is that the starting point or should I read Batman Year One or something else first?

The Dark Kight Returns is pretty much a standalone...you can skip the sequels

The sequels should have never been greenlighted

Maybe it's because TDKSA was such a disaster, but I'm actually liking DKIII a lot so far. Probably because Azzarello is doing most of the writing and Kubert's art does a great job of hewing to the original DK style while being much nicer, cleaner and more coherent than Miller's artwork these days. Yes, it's still completely unnecessary, and it will never measure up to TDKR in full, but it's still pretty good and in many ways feels like the true sequel.

The animated TDKR is very good. Year One is solid, but yes, read the real thing

Yup, read...then watch the cartoons. :lol

:exactly: :lecture

@khev:

TDKR
Year One
Long Halloween
Killing Joke

There are a few others but do those first.

I loved Miller's Daredevil run and "Hard Boiled" but for whatever reason whenever I'd be inclined to pick up TDKR something always give me pause. I made the mistake of picking up Spawn/Batman and thought "well this is ****" and didn't give his take on Batman another thought for many years, despite the critical acclaim of TDKR.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Enjoy!

I also recommend Alan Moore & Brian Bolland's THE KILLING JOKE if you haven't actually read it yet. It's heavy stuff thematically, but an easy, relatively quick read. While not hailed quite as much as TDKR, it's actually what sold me on "dark" Batman as a 15 year old when it came out. After that, I then got into TDKR and other WATCHMEN and other "mature" fare and the rest, as they say, is history. :rock

(They're currently making an R-Rated KILLING JOKE animated film, with Kevin Conroy as Bats and Mark Hamill as The Joker... so be sure you read it before that comes out, if you haven't already)

Nope, haven't read any of those. My comic experience with Batman is pretty dubious. He's always been a TV/film character to me for the most part. I read Knightfall and Spawn/Batman and John Byrne's 1940's Captain America/Batman crossover (which I liked) and that's pretty much it. Looking forward to finally getting into "the good stuff."

Killing Joke, TDKR and Year One were my most loved books as a teenager. I loved Arkham Asylum for the incredible artwork as well.

also the conspiracy guys might have been absolutely right about the bias in critics,
even though i despise the movie, this video made me wonder if the critics were just being rude because they were not given presents or trips to mumbai and stuff.

It looks like there really was some conspiracy going on because WB has not be the nicest to critics in the past and have not spent as much on making critics happy as other studios have

I cant believe i am saying all of this, but wow, she made me wonder about it. i mean, trips to Dubai for good reviews by other studios, that's like a legit proven bribe.
it's like critics always expect to be catered to and WB wont play ball.
