And more serious about his career, and also in better physical shape.

Yet I like BvS more than AoU. It isn't always about box office.
Your absolutely right I DC movies will not be able to tab in to the family market because of the tone of their movies and it does not have to it only need to compete with itself. Produce the best quality movie you can make.Iron Man was hardly C-list in 2013. He's arguably the biggest cinematic superhero in the world right now, behind only Batman and ahead of even Spider-Man.
Something else to consider: WB and Snyder willingly sacrificed some box office dollars in order to make the type of film they wanted to make. I took both my kids to see AoU twice in the theater (six tickets) vs. me seeing BvS twice but not taking my kids due to the subject matter (two tickets.) Yet I like BvS more than AoU. It isn't always about box office.

Wouldn't you after winning some Oscars
Or good reviews either...according to WB...because it's about the "FANS!"

The fans absolutely are important. These are the people who will be your repeat "customers". They're the people who buy the licensed merchandise and engage with the movies' promotional partners. All of that is part of the same portfolio.
It's also why WB looks at RT and laughs all the way to the bank behind Brinks trucks full of cash.
Affleck's been involved in some really good movies over the past few years. Batman is in safe hands.

You know that WB wants good reviews and if the reviews were great, that's more money they would be making, and they know it, even if they're happy with the $166 opening.
Finger pointing "neener neener" comments are just petty little jabs of no consequence.
Every studio wants every film they release to make a gajillion dollars. But if they still turn a nice profit and "fans" are hungry for more then they've succeeded. Sure WB would have enjoyed seeing BvS do Avengers numbers just like Disney would have been thrilled if TFA passed Avatar. But does it really matter in the end? Nope.
I liked BvS more than I thought I would. But having said that WB is going to need 70% less Brinks trucks this week.
