My inability to focus unfortunately meant I couldn't read most of that.

I don’t necessarily think that my disabilities define me any more than being queer or butch do. But I know that without them, I wouldn’t be me.
Oooooooh there it is, it was mildly interesting until I read that, her disability is probably self-diagnosed. And theeeen she goes on a victim rant.

Uuuuugh.

As for me, it was pretty obvious that Lex was being manipulated by an outside force (Darkseid/Desaad).

I know, it was a kind of informative and then it quickly turned into "acknowledge me!!!!".

I don't know if he was being manipulated from the beginning, but he was definitely under some kind of influence after he got into the ship.

Either way, I just hope we move on from psycho Lex to a more serious, calm and collected version when the time comes. Some muscles wouldn't hurt, either. I really like that aspect of Luthor in the books, where he considers Superman's body "fake", and trains his to peak levels.

I think it's too late for collected Luthor.

But I just re-read All Star Supes, for like the 90th time, and I don't think I see as much wrong with Lex as I used to see, All Star Supes Luthor is pretty much an egomaniac mad scientist too, solely driven by his hate for Supes, he's not a business man. Now that he has no hair, he's even closer to that, now he just needs to draw his eyebrows.

Now if we could fix those damned costumes...

In the article he talks about all the changes Snider made to the Supes character and why it doesn’t work. I know Snyder (and by extension, DC/WB) was going for edgy and dark and modern because they didn’t think a boy scout Supes would fly (pun intended) in this day and age. The article explains why that classic characterization of Supes would indeed actually work with today’s audiences. You could also point to Captain America and Evans’s portrayal to prove that a morally good hero works today.

We’ve also gotten to the point in CB movies that there is no need to reinterpret the characters in order to present them in a movie. That used to be the whole rationale: comic book stories and characters won’t work in the movie medium. We now know that that’s bs, and that CB movies work even better when the characters stay true to the source material.

Anyway, the article is a great read. They guy makes some excellent points. I will say that I actually did enjoy BvS, but it’s like these two new Superman movies were a waste of time to have gone back to the drawing board with Superman when there was no need to.

The same with Luthor. When John Byrne turned Luthor into the most powerful business man in the world (had someone done Luthor that way before?), it was a great counterpoint to pit against the most powerful being in the world. Why turn him into a wacky psycho?

I read All-Star again a month or so back, and I really wasn't a fan of that version of Luthor. I'm just not into the whole "I may act like I could be a hero if not for [insert tragic thing here] but ultimately I'm an *******" trope. They tried it with Doom as well, back in the day, and it really soured me. For my money, such powerful villains should legitimately want to help, but their arrogance or circumstances hinders them from doing that. It adds a tragic element to it, and makes the character more nuanced. Sure, we need purely evil bad guys, but a select few should have more depth IMO.

I don't own MoS on blu-ray so when it was on FX last night I watched the end battle for the first time in over two years. Ouch. Thought it was terrible. Not only was it wrongly dreary but it was wrongly dreary juxtaposed with totally out of place comedy (the army soldier who gets Wilhelmed by Faora, Supes being thrown through a "this many days since last accident" sign, the STUPID Twilight-esque line about "kisses going downhill after the first" only counting for humans, etc.

The real kicker was that the visuals didn't even hold up. Might as well have been CG Keanu fighting all those Smiths again. Looked totally fake and video gamey and those visuals were the only saving grace for the finale in the first place. I wanted to reacquaint myself with the Zod battle since it carries over into BvS but now I wish I hadn't. BvS and SS are tainted if you take them as direction extensions of MoS IMO. I won't be revisiting that film again anytime soon, if ever.

I think the end fight holds up pretty well, especially for 4 years ago. CG has come a long way.

Personally, I love the Faora sequence and was pretty disappointed that she was killed off(?) She kicked major ass.

Yeah, the CGI there looks better than any time you see Vision flying around and doing stuff in CW, and I like Vision, or whenever Tony opens the helmet, those are like PS3 graphics.

Nah Faora's not dead, neither is Hardy or Hamilton, they're all in the phantom zone.

i needz moar faor.

Agreed though, I pointed it out in the CW thread, but a lot of the CGI in that awesome airport sequence isn't the best. Especially the Iron Man stuff. C'mon downey, at least get your ass in the suit for close up these days you lazy ****er. :lol
