Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

:goodpost:

I don't get why dark and or gritty and or realistic is thought of as a Nolan thing. That style and the more light style have been prevalent across loads of superhero movies for decades

"Light" or "Fun" movies

Superman The Motion Picture
Superman II
Superman III
Superman IV : The Quest For Peace
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin
Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 3
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Green Lantern
Thor
Captain America The First Avenger
The Avengers
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World

"Dark", "Gritty" or "Realistic" movies

Batman
Batman Returns
The Dark Knight Trilogy
Blade
Blade II
Blade Trinity
Superman Returns
HULK
The Incredible Hulk
The Punisher
Punisher War Zone
Daredevil
Elektra
X-Men
X2
X3 The Last Stand
X-Men First Class
The Wolverine
The Amazing Spider-Man
Man of Steel

Some of them don't exactly fit the categories and are more a mix of the two tones.

It might not be new but Nolan made it more prevalent.

I am sure teenage vampires are nothing new (Or vampires with no fangs) But Twilight made that type of style more relevant now, And then you see all these shows and movies trying to capitalize on that :dunno

Yea in a way it ruined vampires for me.

"Dark", "Gritty" or "Realistic" movies

Batman
Batman Returns

These are not realistic films. In reality a police force with any kind of competence whatsoever could have taken down Joker and his goons and the Penguin's circus gang without Batman's help. The most you see these villains do is get up in people's faces and destroy property while dancing around with ghettoblasters, tricycles and stilts. GCPD should have been able to deal with that with ease :lol

But that's why I love those films, its a fantasy world.

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

But they would be considered gritty or dark. Perhaps Gothic is a better term, I always get that tone from all Burton movies

The term you're looking for which best defines Burton's films is noir. While that defines "dark, stylistic crime dramas," that's certainly not the modern "dark and gritty." Personally, I don't even think that fits Nolanistic films so much as "emo, generic, and embarrassed of the source material" does. :huh

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

Are people seriously trying to argue that Nolan wasn't making dark films, and specifically that Dark Knight wasn't dark?? It's in the title! ****'s sake, Joker is a self-mutilating, anarchistic, homicidal maniac, who kills Batman's squeeze, blows up a hospital, tries to get large groups of people to kill each other, physically and psychologically scars another guy into trying to kill Gordon's entire family, and does it all for kicks. . .none of it is played as humorous or surreal like in the Burton films.

What is dark if that ain't it? And someone is saying that Ang Lee's Hulk is "realistic?" That's got to be the most surreal Marvel movie in existence, particularly the last act, but look no further than mutant poodles and comic paneling. And Daredevil's see-saw karate and Punisher War Zone's exploding parkour flippers also go on that list?

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

I did say the list wasn't completely accurate.

Hulk was a story about the dynamic of anger management and nature vs nurture. It was generally a serious movie. Daredevil was generally dark and gritty, it death with rapists, murderers ect...

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

"Dark" is on various comic book titles as well, also, there's a movie called dark shadows and it's not exactly a snuff.

And Burton's Joker is a nicer person.

Just cause some of it is intended as humor, doesn't mean is any less dark.

None of these polls really mean a damn thing. You can vote, refresh and vote again, which means anybody can sit there and vote their favorite up all day long. No accountability, really. :lol

knowing fanboys someone probably DID sit there and vote all day long :lol:lol

Which is hilarious and likely the only reason why they keep incessantly using these polls to try and convince us into believing that the masses are agreeing with them. :rotfl

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

Oh yeah you're right, you can vote multiple times :lol so that one's no good.

Wouldn't surprise me if those were the actual results though, I was surprised to see Cap doing so well though.
