The fps has been the best thing about the nextgen versions to me. Both version are silky smooth from the footage ive seen. Makes a huge difference. If I was a console only person that loved bf, the fps would be enough reason to upgrade. The bf series was always a little too much for current gen hardware.

Yes more of a watered down version but still very good all the same. Especially considering the age of the hardware.

Is the sound any better of different in this?

The sound of 3 was pretty awesome. Just wondered if its more of the same or better/worse in any way ?

Yeah, I'm sure the current gen games are fine. Just don't put them next to the new versions hehe.

I'm not sure about sound. Dice is the best in the biz at sound mixing IMO. No one does a soundscape like they do. I'm guessing it'll sound at least as awesome as 3 and maybe a little better. Especially for consoles as this is the first 64 player set up for console players.

They certainly are. I remember the beta when getting shot by a sniper, it sounded and kinda felt like it had more impact.
Really looking forward to this. Will be quite a leap from current gen.

EA pushed Battlefield 4 through quality control to beat Call of Duty

According to a BF4 QA tester, EA pushed the game through quality control in order to be Call of Duty to the market.

NOVEMBER 6TH, 2013

Battlefield 4 is facing a number of issues on all platforms at the moment. From server crashes, to client crashes and freezes (both on PC and consoles), to an awful netcode, things aren’t all that great at the moment.

Luckily, DICE is working hard to fix these issues. And according to a new report, this awful situation might have started with publisher EA.
According to a QA tester at DICE, EA pushed the game through the quality control and testing phase in order to beat Call of Duty Ghosts to market. The quality control team at DICE simply did not have enough time to test all the features, vehicles, weapons, etc.
Which is why, for example, a bug mutes the everyone on the server if a any player in the match uses a silencer on a particular weapon. It’s the kind of bugs that are picked up in testing, but only when you have time to properly test the game.

The QA tester explains in a communique with a Reddit moderator how Battlefield 4 was tested, and he also reveals some of the challenges they face. For example:

“Let’s say we test the SPAS-12 in June before we release. Then a sound guy makes a change in July which breaks it. Do you test everything again? Do you forbit anyone to work on the SPAS-12 after we’ve tested it?”

We’ve previously criticized Battlefield 4 heavily — calling it unplayable at one point — but our intentions are always good: we want DICE to know the various problems the game faces. We’re sure they’re working hard to fix everything, and with a complex game such as Battlefield 4, it takes time and it’s hard to really perfect anything.

The reason all of this is happening points to EA, the parent company of DICE. In their quest to beat Call of Duty to the market, they released a broken game.

In the end, EA won out. Battlefield 4 beat out Call of Duty Ghosts to the market. By one week. Was it worth it?

Unfortunately this is how all AAA games are being released lately. Being forced to release the game at a certain date just to compete when the game isn't even ready to be launched yet. If it needs to be delayed, delay it. BF4 is practically unplayable right now for a lot of people, it's the same as not having the game at all.

From what I hear COD is "meh..."; so they could have waited till after the holidays, like a march release would have been fine; I think they could have forgotten about 360 and ps3 altogether to focus their time elsewhere; but im sure thats EA again, right?

In March they'd be competing with Titanfall. There's always a reason for a publisher like EA to rush a game. In this case, to beat CoD to stores, but also they wouldn't be willing to miss the holidays. This game was going to ship too soon no matter what. As someone else said, that's normal these days. Ship it now, patch it later.

Also, they'd never leave out current gen hardware. That would be financial suicide.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was rushed--the single player is an afterthought

I still don't believe the single player is an afterthought for them. I just think they havent figured out what makes a compelling campaign experience. The rushed part is apparently the testing phase. Not something you want to skip.

Good god. Wasn't it like this last time? BF3 vs MW3?

Anyhow, I guess it was a calculated risk; in this day and age you can release a bugged or incomplete game cause at the end, the customer can download patches (granted these patches are released in a timely manner). And look at all the god damned DLC!

Plus, the marketing was probably geared towards the next gen consoles which are coming out at the end of this month or the month after. So I guess it makes sense.

:lol

I've experienced some server crashes, the sound glitches & occasional rubber banding - but calling the game unplayable is quite a melodramatic statement. :dunno

I understand where people are coming from though, it's pretty annoying if you just shelled out for a new game and you can't play.

People tend to have short memories when it comes to gaming. BC2 was a total mess when it came out. Took a long time to make that game truly playable and working properly. BF3 was buggy as hell too and the servers were a disaster. It was such a pain to get into a game that first week. These problems have become normal. Not saying thats a good thing, but it's strange that people always seem surprised.

The single player was incredibly short, and that's with a good chunk taking place on a carrier where they were able to reuse assets. And even then, the design was really really shoddy--not buggy but actually poorly designed. Like there were areas where you would have ammo crates really close together, like one at the end of a section and one at the start of the next section, or one area that had like 3 ammo crates within 50 feet of each other.
It also really lacked the small details that show care was taken in the creation--like comparing the dam explosions in that one to the one in the new Call of Duty there's a big difference.
I also couldn't follow the story--I know there's a bad guy named Chang, I don't know who he is or why he was doing things. Or like the Chinese guy you are protecting I have no idea who he is. Or why we were suddenly fighting the Russians. Very confusing, and usually I know what's going on but I don't remember any point that they explained those things.

In case anybody's interested, Digital Foundry uploaded gameplay footage of the PS4 version running at 60fps available for download. It's huge, (over 2GB) but it's totally worth checking out.

I broke my G9x last night playing battlefield, the scroll wheel broke off. This is the second G9x I have gone through so I am trying something new now. Ordered a Mad Catz RAT, see how that works out. It looks a little crazy for me but I will give it a whirl.

Just swapped my BF4 XB1 game over to the Ps4 version. I was planning on getting Killzone day one for the Ps4 but it's all mounting up money wise. So COD for XB1, BF4 for Ps4

I'll just get Killzone a bit later down the line.
