True, but not for Batman. He could have spent his whole life doing that if he wanted to.

That is true, you're comparing casting to story and subplots, and as a whole the TDK trilogy is great, no denying it. It was well received and generally loved by fans and critics alike, if you don't like it, then so be it. Let's get back on topic and listen to the thousands of nerds cry about Affleck being cast as the Caped Crusader. :lol

Listen to them? Well you can if you want to. :lol

True, it was a great piece of work. The point is, there were bigger liberties taken in Nolan's trilogy than casting Affleck as Batman. If Batman survived that, he will survive this.

Personally, I have high hopes for the DCMU. I believe that this will be the closest interpretation of the DC comics characters to film yet.

I wonder if Marvel fans fight like this.......

:lol

But the first, and hopefully, only actor to play Batman in the first live-action version of the DC universe as a whole.

You think that after Affleck WB is just going to stop making Batman and Superman movies? That's adorable. ;)

There will be a new Batman in the 2020's, 2030's, 2040's, and so on. If you or anyone has a problem with Affleck watch one of the previous films or wait it out.

My late grandfather was a lifelong Batman fan and got to enjoy Keaton in 1989 as a 60 year old man. You think we won't be watching superhero movies when we're old and grey? Everything is cyclical and I just find it hard to care anymore. If somehow the film industry just disappeared overnight and no new movies are ever made again I've got enough films up to now to enjoy for the rest of my life.

I so could NOT care less who is cast as any superhero anymore. I'll enjoy what comes out or what's already been made. The end.

Of course not. What I mean is, hopefully the character is not recast within the same continuity, like The Incredible Hulk, or what's-her-face from TDK trilogy. Hopefully, Affleck will play Batman for the entirety of this run of movies, and someone new won't be cast until it's time for another reboot, years from now.

Indeed. Especially after Man of Steel.

Michael Fassbender would be a far better choice . hiring Affleck is like hiring Clooney or Kilmer . its a Franchise Killer !

Ah, I see what you meant now.

I think that your argument is misinformed. Val Kilmer and George Clooney starred in terrible Batman films, but that does not mean that they were terrible choices for the parts. If Michael Keaton starred in those films, would they have been any better? No, because there was a lot more wrong at a base, conceptual level than any actor could fix. I still maintain that Clooney would've been a great Batman, had he had more to work with than a glorified toy commercial, and I believe the same in regards to Kilmer.

Affleck is a fine choice, and, if anything, his experience and knowledge regarding writing and directing might actually be able to help this film, rather than hurt it.

Between Snyder and Affleck (both huge comic book fans), I think it will be ok.

i agree the writing and direction was horrible in those films but it doesn't change the fact that both Clooney and Kilmer were both poor choices . they were just the beginning of Chain of Events leading up to 2 Disastrous films
i also agree Ben Affleck is a fine director and writer but his acting is subpar. I highly doubt he will be able to pull this part off . he does not exuberate any of the qualities I think a character like batman needs .

Kilmer and Clooney were not the issue. Story and script were. Everyone involved admitted to that. After all these years people should know that.

Initial reactioni... this sucks :censored But you're right. Story, script ruined Batman movies after Batman Returns. Kilmer and Clooney could have been good if the directing and everything else was better, but they just lost if after they introduced the new villians. They made it too friendly. I just hope Zach Snyder doesn't screw this up. :slap

I think, between Watchmen, 300, and Man of Steel, Snyder's proven that he can deliver an effective (not to mention visually stunning) comic book movie with very little of the camp that pervaded them in earlier years.

I was pretty surprised by this news, especially since Ben has sort of reinvented himself as a very capable director and has finally earned some respect. Stepping into this kind of role seems risky.

But I would not be surprised if Ben never ends up in the batsuit after all.

Exactly, they were both great actors who were given ****ty material. As far as Ben Affleck goes, he's a good actor. I think the problem is that people are spoiled. You aren't always going to get an Academy Award winning actor in the Batsuit, folks, and, on top of that, every actor has their ups and downs (ever here of Newsies?). I think the problem is that people are too closed minded to think of this outside of the "fanboy" perspective. They can't seem to grasp that his career has consisted of more than just Daredevil.
