Go to Target. They have a $5 off all Blu Rays over $20 coupon. This includes new releases. Someone reported that they even price matched BB's $17.99 ad and applied the $5 coupon to get the Blu Ray for $12.99!!! Expires in Xmas eve.

Those previous $5 off any Blu ray coupons were a godsend. I scored a few Blu Rays on the cheap with those including the 1st Transporter movie Blu for $5.

If anybody has a BJ's Wholesale Club (they are like a Costco or Sams Club), they have a $7 off Blu Ray coupon in their entertainment flyer that went out for Blu Rays $18.99 and up.

So far I think I have used about 10 of those Target coupons. :angelsmil :lol

11 if you count District 9 tomorrow. :banana

I heard Avatar is just a retelling of Pocahontas and Ferngully the Last Rainforest with silly looking blue cat people.

Kid's films.

Glad to hear its getting such great reviews... fingers crossed it comes from Netflix and I can watch it tomorrow :duff

WOW. Just watched Inglorious Basterds on BluRay and if QT doesn't finally nab his well-deserved Best Director Oscar for this one, there is no justice in the world! (but, that being said, I still haven't seen the Hurt Locker)

Anyway, Inglorious Basterds is now my favorite movie of 2009 that i've seen. I just can't get over how great it is! (and I thought it was gonna be dumb after seeing the trailers - no trailer could ever do this film justice)
You really can't go wrong with either one as best of '09, but you MUST see Hurt Locker!!

The trailer for Basterds was a bit misleading, but the film did not disappoint, not one bit.

WORST: ...INGLORIOUS BASTERDS
You are out of your ****ing mind. :duh

Have you ever seen a Tarantino film before? If not then you are forgiven, but excessive dialogue is trademark Tarantino!
His dialogue has also gotten better, more fluid, with each film.

What some call "Excessive Dialogue" I would call "REAL" acting and a real movie. The classics were are about dialogue and the character build-up too. It was the amazing dialogue that MADE IB a fantastic film. Sure we crave action and what not but this one was a real treat for me.

Just my 2 cents.
This man speaks the truth! :rock

I enjoy the Tarantino films, and the dialogue is a big part of why. He very effectively crafts melodramatic and bad ass, over the top dialogue. Everyone remembers the Samuel L. Jackson speech from Pulp Fiction, and most people probably remember a handful of lines from Kill Bill or Jackie Brown for that reason (I enjoyed Budd's lines from Kill Bill quite a bit, myself).

I haven't see Inglorious Basterds, but it is in my Netflix queue, and I look forward to it. Definitely looking more forward to that than "revenge of the blue CG cat people."

Best is a tie, Star Trek and Watchmen the Directors cut (So far, as I have not seen Avatar yet)

Worst is Transformers Revenge of the fallen ( Sorry Transformer fans, please forgive me

)

It would have been Dragonball Evolution, but I saw that for free

I have seen Avatar
This is now my best film of the year.

There are still quite a few movies I need to see (Precious, The Single Man, The Hurt Locker...to name a few), but as I may not get to them until 2010 then I'll put my opinion in now...

Best/Favorite: Star Trek (Inglorious Basterds almost ties though, but Star Trek by far was my favorite film of the year).

Worst: Terminator Salvation

Kid's films.

Add in 'Dances with Wolves' too. Those are the three movies that came to my mind after I saw the movie. That said....'Avatar' is not a kids movie (at least not a young kids movie) and I wouldn't say the blue cat people were silly looking as they were almost always amazing to see on screen.

I went with my buddy who is a Native American studies professor, funny that he didn't draw that conclusion.

Along with the many already existing movie parallels I saw in 'Avatar' I also saw the film was heavily influenced by Native American culture/beliefs as well as other cultures from around the world (African, Pacific Islanders, Central American). So, there's no denying where the creators of 'Avatar' drew some of their inspiration from when coming up with the characters backgrounds, beliefs, and ever looks.

Well, there's no doubt that the influences are there. The Navi and their interaction with the environment is heavily influenced by Native American beliefs and as you stated, there are even more layers of influence from other cultures. I just don't think the entire film was based off of any two or three previously existing stories, as Cloud said... It's more an amalgamation of many various influences. So yeah, I agree but I don't :lol :D

Best for me - probably District 9
Extremely entertaining - Drag Me to Hell
Haven't seen anything tha'd fall into the worst category
