I saw both film series as a child. I was older with LOTR, but only...what..like 10? Finished the series when I was 12.

Honestly? When I watched Star Wars, it grabbed me. I loved being in that world. LOTR? I was begging to leave. Because holy ****, it was long. I saw Two Towers opening night, same with Return of the King. I did end up liking Return of the King the most. It was the most fun.

But I walked out after the 45th ending.

So no, LOTR never left an impression on me. I'd like to revisit them sometime...but they just never gave me any feeling I had when I saw Star Wars.

They are great movies. Perfectly made, well acted, everything is good.

But that world does nothing for me. Not a damn thing.

While I wouldn't go as far as saying LotR didn't do anything for me, I'll agree it doesn't grab me the way Star Wars does.

I wasn't as young as Celtic when I saw LotR. I was in high school. I think 14-17 years old (I didn't see RotK in theaters or on DVD immediately). But I was into BioWare's "Baldur's Gate" series which is based odd of AD&D which is based off Tolkien's world. I was 8 when I first saw Star Wars. Two years before the Special Editions and 4 years before the prequel trilogy.

So perhaps age influences it. At the same time, before I fell in love with Star Wars, I loved Batman. B89 was my absolute favorite movie. I'll vote for Nolan's versions over Burton's in a heartbeat. So childhood nolstagia arguement is sorta null and void. :dunno

Oh shut up :pfft:

I think we can all agree that your taste in movies is abysmal and juvenile. If you actually voted for LOTR, perhaps hell really did freeze over. :lol:monkey1
Well said. :exactly:

Always accusing people of having no soul when it comes to movie preference, then saying "Lord of the Rings did nothing for me". Hilarious :lol

Wtf!!! I knew these poll threads would destroy the movie section. Somewhere bane is sitting back in his chair sipping tea.

I wouldn't say it's null and void. There are lots of things that can go into why one over the other. I wasnt a child when i saw either when they made their impact but i can understand how that impact works So ones mileage may vary o. The impact at any age.

I was in the same age range 16 in 97 when the SE came out and Sophomore in college in 01 (20) when FOTR came out. I enjoy SW and think its a fun simple universe to play in. However, I'm the opposite of some of you in that Tolkien's universe which Jackson adapted just grabbed me so much more. I read the books ever year, watch the movies fairly often, do trilogy showings at theaters when I can, my collecting, etc. so to say Jackson's work grabbed me is an understatement. It's not meant to be snotty but there for me is nothing about SW that is on the same level as what there is with Middle-earth. So I understand all the reasons why mileage may vary for

I remember when you had an avatar or sig of you holding a lightsaber. You used to be all about the Star Wars, Josh.

I dig SW. That's not what I'm saying at all. I have my SW Collectibles and still have that Lightsaber. I change my stuff out every so often because I will represent different things that I like. I mean I've had LOTR, SW, Iron Man, etc.

Once the new movies start coming out and the Hobbit flicks are gone, he'll flip-flop back to Star Wars. :lol

I'm looking forward to the new SW movies. However, if you're expecting me to start liking SW more when they come out you're wrong. There is nothing else out there that I like as much as anything related to Middle-earth. I'm not one who rides whatever is the it thing at the moment. You can ask anyone whose been around here since the board started that I'm all about Middle-earth and I dabble other places of geekdom.

I may have voted Star Wars, but I just wanted to pop in to announce that I just picked up the entire extended trilogy on Bluray for $30! :yess:

Target's selling them for $10 a piece. They're new exclusive 2-disc editions with $5 off Hobbit tickets. My wife, bro-in-law, and I will hopefully benefit from those! And to think I almost bought the box set a few months ago for $100 at Best Buy. I'd be so angry right now had I done that.

For those that don't have them, check it out! 4 day only sale. Not sure what the normal MSRP is. I'm guessing $15-20 a piece. The $25 Blurays were $15 so pretty great savings.

I don't hate LOTR. People seem to take "Movie didn't work for me personally" as "Movie sucked, and it sucks". I think they are great films. I really enjoyed the last one. I might even give them another go when I The Hobbit comes around.

Just never had a interest with fantasy like that. Don't really care for dwarves, elves, all that stuff. Just doesn't work. More of a Sci-Fi person.

Even Sci-Fantasy works for me.
