The hybrid in this movie suddenly makes me appreciate the newborn even more. As that was actually a pretty cool and ferocious looking design.

I tried to stay away from the trailers. I didn't have an issue with the callbacks, other than the line near the end. I was just pointing out the difference I thought most would have between Deadpool and Alien R
It's twofold for me. They threw away the ending of Aliens but also did it in the absolute cheapest way possible. If they wanted bleak they could have killed Newt and Hicks in the movie itself. I wouldn't have liked that either but that would have been bold.
Alien3, Alien Covenant and Terminator Dark Fate can all die in a hole.
alien 3 is such a comfy movie. its such a perfect movie for a rainy afternoon while drinking cocoa, eating a croissant.
I really liked the performance from Charles Dutton and Charles Dance.

Oh my god that just triggered the memory of an old mash-up trailer I saw yearrs ago of a Star Wars x Alien horror mashup.

Havent watched it yet, but a friend of mine accidentally spoiled that the film rather distastefully ressurected a deceased actor - so my interest has plummeted.
I HATE this trend of studios performing digital necromancy for nostaligia porn.
The actors are dead and they have no right to use their image in such a disrespectful way, just recast the bloody role!
Also heard that the choice of Xenomorph undermines the ending of the original movie, which again turns me off - the reason I cant stand Alien3 is because it ruined Aliens ending and I dont want a repeat of that.
Does this film respect the original film or should I give it a miss?

I watched an interview with the director this morning. He talked about reaching out to the deceased actor's widow and by extension his family. They said he was disappointed that later in life he did not get many offers to be in films and that he really loved Alien and that he would have jumped at the chance to do it so therefore gave their blessing. Certainly, a step up from what happened with Reeve and the Flash movie.
I can't think how they ruined Alien in it.

Thats good to hear, my mate is a bit of an alarmist so with regards to the ending of Alien he may have been exaggerating - but the actor thing is what really put me off, but if their family is okay with it and thinks they would have been okay with it then that makes me feel a bit better.
Still dont love that studios are doing this at all though.
Like you say the Reeve move in the Flash was just gross.
That's excellent! The "weak signal" line doesn't work but other than that it's great!

I went to see it again last night at the local Vue with my mate Sam, who unlike me is not an
A L I E N nut.
First off the presentation was a lot better, in focus and not too dark.
I enjoyed the film a lot more, and Sam loved the movie up until the Neomorph at the end, I had the same issue on my original viewing but less so this time round.
It’s a creepy design, but stilted movement in full body shots didn’t help sell it. Added to that you have the perfect creature design in the Alien itself, so every time you try to move away from that you’re going to loose.
Sam was raving about how good the FX were for Rook were and didn’t realise that he was based on the android from the first film.
I’m with him on that one, I thought it was a great visual and audio achievement, and a great character to boot, never knowing quite sure what his true intentions were.
It seems to have been a hit and personally I’d like to see Fede finish the David storyline with the kick off between David, Engineers and Colonial Marines on Origae 6.

I was actually surprised at how poor it looked whenever Rook was speaking. The voice was spot on though.

Deadpool is such an inherently cringey and over the top character to begin with, that for many fans It becomes hard to separate the carefully scripted (intentionally awkward) moments from the plain lazy fanboy callbacks. It's so meta almost anything goes, which in my opinion is just as damaging to the story as the multiverse if not handled correctly. Alien on the other hand is a reality expanding sci-fi horror and as such should stay as far away as possible from any cringe inducing interference. I haven't seen Romulus yet though, so I cannot say wether I belive it manages the balance or not...

I read somewhere that the actor's family was contacted by the director and gave their approval to use him in the movie...
As with Deadpool/Wolverine, I've spoiled the bejaysus out of this movie for myself. The sooner my town gets a damn cinema again the better.
On the callbacks discussion, I don't mind (and would even want in some cases) repeated sound effects from earlier movies - but characters repeating exact lines of famous dialogue from the previous movies is too on the nose.
''Oh yeah, a-dev?! What about the T-800 saying the line 'come with me if you want to live' in T2?''.......now that you mention it hypothetical contrarian person, yeah, you're right - that particular sentence is kind of an un-machinelike thing for a T-800 to say and is clearly just a winking callback to when Kyle Reese said those very same words in similar circumstances to Sarah Connor in the first movie. I've excused and not even noticed how kind of silly that is all this time.
So, yeah, I dunno how I'll feel when I hear ''get away from her you b!tch'' again. It may well depend on how much I like (or don't) the movie overall.

when that line is being said, the girl is about to get attacked and the android guy starts shooting at the alien and he says get away from her, but there's a pause, the android looks at the dead alien and after the pause he says you "beach"
but the pause made it feel different for me. I didn't hate it. he was saving the girl and he was running to her rescue and he was upset.
he says it after the fact.
It sounds stupid to me - like as in a pantomime where they're expecting audience participation - giving them an opening to finish the line by shouting ''B!TCH'' at the screen.

I always thought that line was in a story that was carried into the future, given how famous Kyle was in that period, and that the T-800 was programmed to say it, in order to get her to trust it, given its appearance.
