ST, plans for movies beyond that era, new shows; me personally, I had the clearest thought. And that was "I'm done". I'm just done with Star Wars. I'm tired of seeing it dragged through the mud, of sitting there waiting for a resemblance of quality, of passion, and getting nothing but corporate schlock. After Lucas sold, Star Wars died for me. So I don't care if something passable comes along (because let's be honest, even the best of pulp is merely passable), I'm just done. I don't care about following a bunch of games or books because SW is a multimedia franchise merely to suck more money out of us. I'll keep watching the odd show if a character I like shows up or if it looks cool, because 30 minutes of my time per week is basically one lunch. I'll watch, I'll shoot the **** here, but nothing beyond that. Straight to the bin, as if it never existed.
No figures from any Post-2012 characters. And that's me being generous, as I think the majority of TCW is trash also. But that's where I draw the line. No more investment. No more keeping track of everything. I've said it before, but I have an external HD where I keep everything stored. And I add to it every week. The new comics, the books, everything I can find. But no more. I cleaned up. I deleted ~100GBs. I can't even go back and get all that again, it'd take me days at best, even if I could find them all. So this is as final as it gets.
Me, I'll just keep hoping that EU characters will be added so that I can get their dolls. I don't care if they change their entire personalities and kill them off through a bad case of hickups. As long as they look accurate, I'll get them and have my display cases tell a better story than what we got. If, say, Thrawn is enjoyable even now, fine, I'll take it. But I'll never buy a Mando or Gideon, not because I can't fit them anywhere, or because I don't like them; but because I set a rule. I was already focused on just the Jedi & Sith, but now I've become even more strict. I only have a Kylo because I really like Adam Driver, but moreso because he's just Jacen in a worse costume.
If you ask me, I think everything should have an end. Maybe I'm just too old and tired to be invested in pop cultures anymore. But recently I get much more enjoyment from discovering a new piece of media, going on a ride with it and then coming back, moving onto the next, than seeing old franchises get milked to death. The more you drag something out, the worse it becomes. Any and all resemblance of soul and genuinity is gone, and is instead replaced with nothing but greed and rehashes. I set an endpoint with my comics (Secret Wars for Marvel, #300 for Hellblazer, Morrison's run for Batman, and so on), thus the time came to do it with SW too. I'm tired of making myself "care" for things that have been twisted and appropriated by braindead general audiences whose standards are in the gutter, and literal bots set up by companies to make a buck. I refuse to call mediocre-to-awful products "good" because "lmao bruh it's just stupid pop culture, who cares", as if that's a good reason to destroy something instead of letting it rest.
Yeah, it's been quite a bit since I had a rant. But I binged Stranger Things S4 today, and even after that uneven and trite S3 the difference between a show with genuine heart and whatever the Hell this ended up being, is night and day. ST isn't high art, and this season had a lot of padding, but seeing real sets, people with chemistry, a relatively tight plot and fun characters just truly immerse you in their world, was the push I needed. I've talked about how I have a relatively addictive personality, and while it's always more in jest, I do find it hard to give up some things due to nostalgia, which is why it took me so long when I'd cleared up my comics situation years ago. But I just couldn't keep doing this anymore.
The way I see it, I can either keep SW as a memory of what it used to be, good and bad, and cherish it as a chapter of my life, or let it get diluted until I cannot stand it. I prefer the former.
RE Women: Personally I don't feel that women are the problem. Sure, there are undeniable differences between how the sexes tackle and see things, but the right people can work on anything. It's just that the kind of women involved are talentless bitches, the same way the men are talentless fine fellows. It's literally just money-loving hacks steering the ship. It's not even that they care for "diversity" or "inclusion" or whatever other nonsense they clap and make statements for. It's just money. Current Politics dictate [X], they try to grab as many demographics by doing [Y], and so on and so forth. The people in charge aren't passionate, and they're not even professional. They're the kind of people who think of such nerdy IPs as nothing more than trash they can use to make money, and that's it. Sure, pop culture is meaningless pulp, but that doesn't mean it cannot have some heart. But they don't care. Because they never did. Because they never will. These are the people who made fun of you for reading capecomics past 15. Now they get to destroy the things you loved while making mad money. It's the ultimate "**** you" to the entire notion of "fandoms". Normies are the bigger market now, and we're seen as either a meaningless minority or as abused wives who'll keep consoooooming because we can't help ourselves. So screw them. Screw them all.
