ST, plans for movies beyond that era, new shows; me personally, I had the clearest thought. And that was "I'm done". I'm just done with Star Wars. I'm tired of seeing it dragged through the mud, of sitting there waiting for a resemblance of quality, of passion, and getting nothing but corporate schlock. After Lucas sold, Star Wars died for me. So I don't care if something passable comes along (because let's be honest, even the best of pulp is merely passable), I'm just done. I don't care about following a bunch of games or books because SW is a multimedia franchise merely to suck more money out of us. I'll keep watching the odd show if a character I like shows up or if it looks cool, because 30 minutes of my time per week is basically one lunch. I'll watch, I'll shoot the **** here, but nothing beyond that. Straight to the bin, as if it never existed.

No figures from any Post-2012 characters. And that's me being generous, as I think the majority of TCW is trash also. But that's where I draw the line. No more investment. No more keeping track of everything. I've said it before, but I have an external HD where I keep everything stored. And I add to it every week. The new comics, the books, everything I can find. But no more. I cleaned up. I deleted ~100GBs. I can't even go back and get all that again, it'd take me days at best, even if I could find them all. So this is as final as it gets.

Me, I'll just keep hoping that EU characters will be added so that I can get their dolls. I don't care if they change their entire personalities and kill them off through a bad case of hickups. As long as they look accurate, I'll get them and have my display cases tell a better story than what we got. If, say, Thrawn is enjoyable even now, fine, I'll take it. But I'll never buy a Mando or Gideon, not because I can't fit them anywhere, or because I don't like them; but because I set a rule. I was already focused on just the Jedi & Sith, but now I've become even more strict. I only have a Kylo because I really like Adam Driver, but moreso because he's just Jacen in a worse costume.

If you ask me, I think everything should have an end. Maybe I'm just too old and tired to be invested in pop cultures anymore. But recently I get much more enjoyment from discovering a new piece of media, going on a ride with it and then coming back, moving onto the next, than seeing old franchises get milked to death. The more you drag something out, the worse it becomes. Any and all resemblance of soul and genuinity is gone, and is instead replaced with nothing but greed and rehashes. I set an endpoint with my comics (Secret Wars for Marvel, #300 for Hellblazer, Morrison's run for Batman, and so on), thus the time came to do it with SW too. I'm tired of making myself "care" for things that have been twisted and appropriated by braindead general audiences whose standards are in the gutter, and literal bots set up by companies to make a buck. I refuse to call mediocre-to-awful products "good" because "lmao bruh it's just stupid pop culture, who cares", as if that's a good reason to destroy something instead of letting it rest.

Yeah, it's been quite a bit since I had a rant. But I binged Stranger Things S4 today, and even after that uneven and trite S3 the difference between a show with genuine heart and whatever the Hell this ended up being, is night and day. ST isn't high art, and this season had a lot of padding, but seeing real sets, people with chemistry, a relatively tight plot and fun characters just truly immerse you in their world, was the push I needed. I've talked about how I have a relatively addictive personality, and while it's always more in jest, I do find it hard to give up some things due to nostalgia, which is why it took me so long when I'd cleared up my comics situation years ago. But I just couldn't keep doing this anymore.

The way I see it, I can either keep SW as a memory of what it used to be, good and bad, and cherish it as a chapter of my life, or let it get diluted until I cannot stand it. I prefer the former.

RE Women: Personally I don't feel that women are the problem. Sure, there are undeniable differences between how the sexes tackle and see things, but the right people can work on anything. It's just that the kind of women involved are talentless *******, the same way the men are talentless ********. It's literally just money-loving hacks steering the ship. It's not even that they care for "diversity" or "inclusion" or whatever other nonsense they clap and make statements for. It's just money. Current Politics dictate [X], they try to grab as many demographics by doing [Y], and so on and so forth. The people in charge aren't passionate, and they're not even professional. They're the kind of people who think of such nerdy IPs as nothing more than trash they can use to make money, and that's it. Sure, pop culture is meaningless pulp, but that doesn't mean it cannot have some heart. But they don't care. Because they never did. Because they never will. These are the people who made fun of you for reading capecomics past 15. Now they get to destroy the things you loved while making mad money. It's the ultimate "**** you" to the entire notion of "fandoms". Normies are the bigger market now, and we're seen as either a meaningless minority or as abused wives who'll keep consoooooming because we can't help ourselves. So screw them. Screw them all.

For all the Reva haters on this thread..

I’ll cut her some slack ..she’s just an actress guys. Not every African American actress can deliver a roll . Maybe she should’ve been on Blackish instead of SW :chase

Who knew the guy looked like Jackman’s little brother under the makeup :lol

*spoilers*

I’m probably in the minority but I thought Reva was quite badass, as was the Grand Inquisitor. They were both acted really well. That scene where she’s calling Obi-Wan’s name was chilling. I do wonder if the backlash against her would be there if she was a he, a white woman, or alien character. I’m not exactly the most pro-woke guy but I really do sense a bit of racism going on with this character. I hate calling people out on that, it’s just rather obvious this time around.

Btw I’m not necessarily accusing anyone on here of that, there’s just a hell of a lot of it out there on YouTube and elsewhere on the internet, so it’s definitely a thing.
I think it’s a stretch to instantly identify true sexists or racists from comments online about tv/movie characters these days when it’s far more likely they’re just critics of the industry’s admitted overt prioritisation of racial, sexual and gender identities above compelling or logical writing.

Most dissenters probably don’t understanding why they feel a certain way about these issues; they see that modern culture has it out for traditional values, masculinity and whiteness so (if they are any of those things) they feel threatened or unjustly targeted. Media is presenting their ’identity demographic’ as being less and less significant or deserving of recognition, elevating others at their expense, making them the subject of ridicule and shaming so the logical reactionary response is to hit back at the things that are replacing spaces once occupied by ‘their group.’

It’s pretty shocking how tribal the world is now and the progressive, postmodernist movement for supposed peace and equality among all is strongly to blame for epic degrees of division. The approach is completely counterproductive.

Anyways-
So there’s the one side of ‘would people criticise Reva if she wasn’t a black woman?’ and then the other side- that I would view as being more cynical than bigoted- asking ‘would this character even be a black woman who can stomp all over every male in the universe without repercussions if Disney weren’t pursuing an agenda- and are her abilities and intelligence earned or just obligatory to elevate a character from an ‘oppressed demographic?’
‘Why does this 10 year old child have the wisdom, insight and articulate speech of a tenured psychology professor?’
‘Why did Obi Wan need to be specifically told that a girl is just as important as a boy?’ ‘Is there something beyond entertainment at play here?’

It would be great to disengage from the reality of writing and casting decisions but entertainment now constantly markets itself above all else as being diverse, representational and insists that sci-fi and fantasy are supposed to hold up a mirror to society and reflect current issues to challenge our misconceptions. There’s no space for escapism anymore. All you find is activism masked as content and I think that’s a huge contributor to the negative sentiments you’ll find online.

Of course, it’s way too early in the Kenobi show to make these kinds of judgements without more backstory on the characters.

Reva appears brash, impulsive, disobedient - but she was always right. Her methods get quick results. She’s got rebel qualities so that’s kind of interesting for someone in a rigid, ruling regime and she appears far more aggressive and driven than the other Inquisitors. This hunt is personal for her.

Not sure if I’d buy any HTs from this show that don’t have direct ties to the OT or PT but some inquisitors may grown on me.

I’m interested to see where the Kenobi show takes me. I like kid Leia and Reva, and seeing FLEA of all people show up was a trip. Enjoyable show.

My only complaint so far is the hidden backstory for Reva. Obviously she is the kid in the flashback that takes charge. Certainly more will be revealed but I hate it when this stuff stays hidden. It’s JJ’s mystery box nonsense all over again. Audiences get more invested when we have this information up front.

I hope Kenobi ends up wearing his A New Hope robes at the end and Hot Toys makes that version. I don't have an Obi-Wan yet and a Ewan wearing an “old Ben” wardrobe would be perfect for my collection.
Wouldn't that make her only like 20 years old, since the kids all looked to be around 10 or so? The actress is around 29 and I'm not sure I could buy her as much younger than that.

I would like to see costumes based off the US and Soviet space programs. Thinking of the Mercury suits. Aliens or imperials in a similar looking suit would look cool. Chromed tie pilots or something. View attachment 579802

Hello, Nabrun Leids! Been there since 1977... where have you been?

Ok... So.. I see a lot of complaining.

IDK. I liked it and so far think its the best first two episodes of any of the SW series.

Other than some bad acting by the child actor I think she is written well and reminds me of the hard headed woman she will become.

I did not find it boring. IDK. It felt like SW again.

I like Mando but other then a few choice episodes in season 2, I think its highly over rated. BoBF as we all know was ****. But there were many times watching those two I did not feel like I was in the SW universe. Something was missing.

Maybe its having the show focus on Obi Wan and Leia that helps me. Maybe its because they have not ruined any other established characters from the OT (yet) but it was a solid two episodes IMO. Did a lot happen? No but I did not need a lot because it was great just to feel like I was in the SWU again and not whatever the hell BoBF was.

Things I loved
Obi Wan and Lars arguing.
Seeing life on Alderaan
Obi wan Finding out the Anakin is still alive (Ewen nailed the reaction)
Vader reveal

Things I liked
Other then some bad acting, seeing young leia
Previous younglings becoming the ones that are finding and killing the jedi.
The Villains.
While the music is not great at least it stands out and I can hear it. I think the Obi Wan theme will grow in us in time. I find JW latter SW themes need that. His melodies are not as in out face as they use to be. I watched the full credits to hear it and there are some good parts. Either way the score was not forced in the background like the other two series (especially BoBF)

Things I did not like

Bad Child Acting
Celebrity Cameos - Takes me out of the show every time and reminds me of the SW Holiday special. Where is Art Carney?? OT was mostly unknowns. So not to distract you. Getting Flea or Kumail Nanjiani just takes me out of the show and makes it feel more like we are not in a galaxy far far away. I thought both were fine but I would rather have unknows.

Thing I hated.
Leia being chased in the woods. Felt right out of the EWOK tv shows. it was as slow and awkward as the BoBF speeder chase. (Thats still the worst thing I have ever seen)

Overall I would give the first two episodes a B or B+ even.

I liked it and so far think its the best first two episodes of any of the SW series.

Oh god... it's happened... JAWS's anger over Hulk's handling has resulted in a total breakdown with reality and logic. He has become... acceptance.

If he's using the Ewok movies as justification, you just know something's wrong.

Or maybe his account has been hacked? Can we check on that? Please?

I hope we get some episode featuring 10 yr old Luke now..would hate all the emphasis on 10yr old Leia and nothing on Luke’s life with Owen and Beru other than the cameo

we need to know why Luke mentioned his father so much in ANH
