I don't think that's a practical concern in the situation you illustrated.
I've seen collections where they have so much that they've got shelves right atop their beds and "book"cases right behind them, all filled with 3.75"/6" stuff and whatever else. But let's be honest, anyone that deep is not gonna get deep in that other place...

Contemporary Western culture is too indulgent on all fronts. This is just a symptom.
Oh, absolutely. Lack of balance runs rampant. We've become too comfortable, looking for easy pleasure instead of genuine fulfilment.

Not so different from those dudes obsessed with fantasy football leagues etc. -- it's basically D&D for jocks (or wannabe jocks).

In my experience, most women like it when you're passionate about something other than your job, but understandably expect a healthy life balance.

Also, I would never have any kind of pop culture collectible in the bedroom. Talk about killing the vibe LOL.

My very favorite part of these boards is entering a thread, reading a couple of pages of posts for 20 minutes, getting to the end and having no idea what thread I entered in the first place. It always feels like a bunch of 9 year olds just like me in a room just randomly talking about stuff for a few hours. I dig that...
Very much true!! :)

I'd argue that D&D at least has you playing something and interacting with people. Owning 20 different 6" Cyclops plastic figures that gather dust is even more of a non-hobby.

I don't think it's the same, collecting that is. If you're passionate about something external and you put in the work, it shows commitment. Music, the Arts, anything. As long as you're producing something material, it's a plus. If your "passion" is simply an aspect of consuming, can it really be called a "passion" instead of a compulsion of sorts? Someone whose passion is, dunno, woodworking, and has carved a slew of items, and a guy whose passion is rewatching every Trek show on repeat and having an encyclopedic knowledge of the universe, aren't exactly the same.

From my experience, people in general, like it when you show drive and confidence. Nobody likes a whiner, it's a deep-seated instict. In hobbies, it matters what you have to show them that you actually do. Collecting I see as the equivalent of "self pleasure". It's not by strict definition a hobby. It's not an activity, it's something passive. You need something that produces actual, tangible results to interest others on that level. Otherwise all collecting shows is that you have cash to spare. Beyond that there's no skill involved, so no person outside the circle will be impressed.

I stare at Doom's condescending and wrathful eyes the whole time, and I'm motivated to do better.

Now imagine getting stared by hundreds of beady little plastic doll's eyes. Oh yeah, now that's a hawt atmosphere. I bet the gals love it!

Fair enough. But it's a specialized form of curating that relates back to an experience or well-loved stories. At least when it *is* curating and not hoarding, but we've discussed this repeatedly on these boards of course.

There are different types of engagement. Curation of something that relates back to something that was (or is) meaningful can be perfectly valid, but as we've agreed, these things are best when there's some restraint and logic imposed on it.

See above.

Boy, you ain't right.

Every thread is a therapy session for Kostis. He's dealing with alot: chads, bad comics, etc...
Kostis is a legend. Just yesterday he added a TL;DR to one of his posts that was still three paragraphs long. :lol

And I don't mean any disrespect because I am absolutely not one to talk, lol.

Keep on keeping on Kostis! :duff

????

I thought he was just waxing eloquent about the psychology of figure collecting, something that I would think is relevant for pretty much every thread on this board.
This is the Movie & TV Show discussion forum, there are other appropriate threads you all can discuss the psychology of figure collecting in.

Huh the mods seem to be … doing a lot of modding lately. Wtf is going on? I just got a warning for telling someone to shut up 😂. I mean I understand but I’ve done it multiple times before. Now we have to stay on topic. Weird cause for the longest time I thought all the mods left this forum.
First intovoid comes back and now mods are modding again. Hmmmm.

Ultimately that's my point. Curating a collection is a valid side-hobby, although I do think one needs a more active main one as well. Hoarding is what we want to avoid.

Boy, you ain't right.
Bah, you just don't understand the subtleties of Chaos Magick. Soon enough, I'll be Doom!

Don't forget Nuclear Armageddon in my backyard and the 5th Dimensional Imps watching my every move!

@Darth Snoopy
I was playing a quirky character, trying to bring some flair in the threads. But I guess I went too far...

Alas, it's time for this persona to be laid to rest...

Mods have a thankless job, they're volunteers (or paid like a nickel a month or something), and they can't be everywhere at once. Which must be why they're generally inconsistent with what they enforce and when. This is not an attack on Mods, I wouldn't do any better and wouldn't even try. It's just the nature of the beast I guess.

Now would anyone like to place wagers on the likelihood of Obi Wan vs. Vader in this show?
