There are always more and more people who join the board and want in on new commissions. You can screen some, but not all.

I think as a community we can altert others when we know an item is recast or someone is on a list who is a known recaster... but like others have said this is just an unfortunate part of the hobby. The best thing we can do is to not support any recaster no matter how much we "need" the figure. There are some older sculpts I'd love to try painting... but I will not sink to supporting any recaster to do it.

So, is it possible to have a list or a thread with the name of everyone that supports recasts, in order to let the artists know when is "safe" to negotiate with some members?

Mr. Ecko said he was going to post a list based on Q's seller feedback.

Are you talking legally, or "ethically?"

No Nam. I'm not ignoring anything. I said that the edition size doesn't matter. You are saying that unless it is specified otherwise, re-casting a sculpt someone totally owns is not allowable. Why not? Because you don't think it's cool. Fine. I'm saying that unless the agreement states otherwise, the implication is that ALL rights pass to the new owner, as Pajji says is conventional in his line of work. Same thing. In general though, best this gets ironed out one way or the other because it avoids any issues later, but ownership is ownership.

I know you've got a vendetta against Shortround and that's why you keep harping on this, and that's fine. But I don't have such a bias and am trying to examine this from a more general perspective. Whether or not someone acts out of malice or good intentions doesn't alter the nature of property ownership in my opinion.

I just mean hypothetically they could do that if that is what is being argued in favor of sculptors, that they dont have to pay anyone anything like the comic artists dont

Neither. I traded it for the right to have fun and fully express myself without worrying about offending the thinner skinned and more paranoid among us. :lol

I don't think the analogy works because you're talking a company vs. an artist. The previous post about Yulli doing a sculpt would be more appropriate. And yes, we have seen sculptors working for companies do unlicensed stuff on the side. Can they? Yes. Should they? Debatable.

So you gave it up... :lol

I wondered cause you get way to into the discussion (not in a bad way, just not as a mod would/is aloud to)

The straw that broke the pixlecamal's back was when I posted a picture of a certain member (which was common enough for the laughs around here at the time) and the member got really offended because I was a mod and not acting mod-like. So I figured "screw it".

ON TOPIC: Recasting is bad. :nono

It works, its just on different scales. theres customizers that put out full figure on a pre order basis, I think all HT would have to do (hypothetically) would be have a pre order, fill it and do no more than the list.

was it a private pic or something? :lol I wish mods were a little more human sometimes but its usually taken as being biased (though theres a couple Mods who definitely shouldn't be... and i dont mean Kara)

Yeah, I think HT could conceivably do that. If the edition size was small enough it would probably even be free from legal threat. But they wouldn't because A) they are too big an operation for that; and B) they would risk offending their partners like Marvel and Warner Bros.

yeah of course, just playing devils advocate

No. It was a public pic which they had posted which we used to take the mickey out of him. It was all in good fun. Nothing malicious at all.
