Thanks, kl241, that's about what I was hoping for. Seems pretty reasonable. I'll just try and keep an eye on it for when they part out another Boba.

So last night I modded the extra chest armor I picked up from TA... I ended up cropping a ton of the backing off. I also found that reshaping the armor was a little tough but I finally got it to the shape I wanted... I can see taking the bottom of the vest in just a little too, but that will have to wait till my full figure is here, Thursday.

Flosi, just curious, what method did you use to reshape the armor?

I had a little trouble re-shaping my armor too. Well, not trouble, but it took a little more time than rehaping your typical warped Hasbro weapon or what not. Definitely a harder plastic.

Well, I always boil, bend, dip in cold water... The crap thing is with it attached to the fabric I end up burning my fingers while reshaping. It was way tougher than modding Stormtrooper armor. At first I just cut the backer plastic to roughly the same shape as the chest plates, just slightly smaller as I thought that would give it natural movement but it seemed to still restrict it, and the back plastic started to warp, so I removed like 75% of it.

I think the braids look pretty good with a simple water treatment but I might go home and give them a little wash to weather them up a bit... They're all solid colors so they look a little lame.

Thursday for you?

I borrowed Billy Ray's picture to show the cuts that I made to the clear plastic. Basically, I just outlined the plate on the back, and cut around them. I removed any excess plastic that I could, but didn't go out of my way to remove it all. I then applied the hot water treatment to bend the stomach plate and control the braids.

I don't have pix to share, but I was really happy with the results! The only thing that I might still do is drill new holes in the backpack armor to make it sit better in regard to the collar.

Ok call me dumb and stupid,I've never modded before.
In this picture which part did you cut out and which part did you leave?
Do you dunk the vest into hot water or what? Does the water stain in any way?

Also has anyone made a youtube video with step by step procedures?
I'd like to try this but only if some one held my hand doing it LOL!

One more thing, any pictures of his legs to show where all the gadgets go?

Leave the part where the green studs attach. The hot water part is a bit trickier with this particular chest piece, it doesn't stain but it can melt.

An example of it is the sandtrooper chestplate, get a small pan and put on the hob, let it boil (as if you are doing boiled eggs), dunk the chestplate in with tweezers for 20seconds, pull out, gently bend with fingers around the body, then put under cold water.

Haven't done it with Boba's yet, but from what I hear it is catching people by surprise how easily it melts (warps out of shape) compared to the stormtrooper/sandtrooper part.

You can do it with a heat gun or something also, but I find it isn't as even in warming as the water, and can rapidly get very hot suddenly and do an insta-warp (legitimate term!) For me, the boiling water didn't feel risky at all for the sandtrooper despite how it sounds, will have to have a go on low temperatures for boba, or maybe a bit of kettle steam

The armor doesn't melt using the hot water method, but the clear backing piece warped on mine. It's not visible from the front, and didn't hinder the function at all. Here's a pic:

Also, you don't need to submerge the entire vest, just the bottom portion (ab plate). I didn't experience any staining from the water, but it took a while for the portion of the vest that was submerged to dry.

Time for the worst quality pics in this thread (broken 5 year+ old camera here atm :pfft:) but I just switched him over to a TT slim

Totally unfutzed atm, havent even added his bits and bobs yet. Will go for a 'guy in suit' look in a moment and repost some better pics later

Bravery level needed for the switch - HIGH

I was cutting stuff up with a scalpel left and right, promising to myself that I am a toy surgeon, and can glue back together ANYTHING! Turned out ok though, no glue needed.

edit: more details - For the neck peg, I used an old greedo body (greedo is now played by Johnny Depp, or his TT slim from sweeny todd rather) as I didn't want to butcher the brand new boba body yet.

Drilling holes into the TT slim for the backplate did not affect the arm articulation as some had worried.

Removing the ankle pegs on Boba's boots was a struggle.. I had to scalpel down a seam line (sculpted to appear as boot construction, but hid the cut well) to get a pair of pliers in, then wrestled to pull it out. No glue was needed for repair, as when the HT ball joint slipped in, the boots realigned and the cut was invisible.

Removing the waist armour was hard, but taking the jump suit off the original body first (sounds weird, but doable) then using washing liquid for lubricant to get the armour over his thick hips worked. Couldn't get it on the TT slim the same way, as they have curvy rear ends (I know how that sounds) so I had to slice 1 side open along the seam, willing to plastiweld back together when on the body, but the red belt held it all together anyway.

Chest mod was snipping away plastic, haven't bent it yet, but may still do. Instead of restitching the sides, I just tugged the slack at the back, and taped it down with masking tape (like with models of photo shoots ..hmm..) then the tape job was covered by the backplate and secured by the screws.

The pics don't do the new body justice yet, it feels a lot more like a human and less like a doll, mostly due to arm length and the legs/hips being thinner. The joints are strong but much smoother, can't wait to get some proper poses going with him.

I generally look up what recent hot toys figure uses it (jack sparrow, sweeney todd etc) then look on ebay, and usually get 1 from HK eventually for around £30. At the moment though, the jack sparrow one is available for £29.99 on collectablekitbash.co.uk. My fett and the TT are from here, he packs stuff really well, no idea what postage to EU would be as im in the UK.

Don't forget foot pegs if you get one! (paranoid of badly fitting footpegs from mismatched figures, I discovered Noland's from the predator line fit very snuggly into the jack sparrow sockets, just if you want to avoid potential floppyness)

How do the other proportions match up? I have a slim lying around that I might just use for Boba.

Thanks guys,

He is slightly shorter, just under half a cm (but thats about an inch or so in real person height) and the jump suit is baggy around the legs and require futzing to prevent stocky looking legs. The hips are narrower, and the neck is slightly shorter (but I don't push boba's head all the way down the post). If its a tt slim where the neck post is a separate part you can probably put the boba body neckpost in by unscrewing the bodies and doing a swap, just my jack sparrow body had a sculpted neck as you can see in the pic

I think its worth it, but it can be tricky to get the ssc foot pegs out of the boots, and the hip armour off/on again. Basically nothing is wrong with the tt slim body proportion wise, but the ssc body has short arms and hips that are a bit wide in my opinion (2 big negatives)

edit: unlike other ssc feet i've switched, the hot toys ankle ball pegs went straight in and the socket didn't need widening

Excellent, thanks for taking the time to break that down for me. :) He looks great, btw!
