Ive seen a couple people complain about the crappy velcro on the end of the pants legs...Anyone come up with a good fix for that?...Dont want to use glue, and dont know where I would find velcro that tiny...

Sorry if this doesnt technically count as a mod...:)

Matt

Time for the worst quality pics in this thread (broken 5 year+ old camera here atm :pfft:) but I just switched him over to a TT slim

Totally unfutzed atm, havent even added his bits and bobs yet. Will go for a 'guy in suit' look in a moment and repost some better pics later

Bravery level needed for the switch - HIGH

I was cutting stuff up with a scalpel left and right, promising to myself that I am a toy surgeon, and can glue back together ANYTHING! Turned out ok though, no glue needed.

edit: more details - For the neck peg, I used an old greedo body (greedo is now played by Johnny Depp, or his TT slim from sweeny todd rather) as I didn't want to butcher the brand new boba body yet.

Drilling holes into the TT slim for the backplate did not affect the arm articulation as some had worried.

Removing the ankle pegs on Boba's boots was a struggle.. I had to scalpel down a seam line (sculpted to appear as boot construction, but hid the cut well) to get a pair of pliers in, then wrestled to pull it out. No glue was needed for repair, as when the HT ball joint slipped in, the boots realigned and the cut was invisible.

Removing the waist armour was hard, but taking the jump suit off the original body first (sounds weird, but doable) then using washing liquid for lubricant to get the armour over his thick hips worked. Couldn't get it on the TT slim the same way, as they have curvy rear ends (I know how that sounds) so I had to slice 1 side open along the seam, willing to plastiweld back together when on the body, but the red belt held it all together anyway.

Chest mod was snipping away plastic, haven't bent it yet, but may still do. Instead of restitching the sides, I just tugged the slack at the back, and taped it down with masking tape (like with models of photo shoots ..hmm..) then the tape job was covered by the backplate and secured by the screws.

The pics don't do the new body justice yet, it feels a lot more like a human and less like a doll, mostly due to arm length and the legs/hips being thinner. The joints are strong but much smoother, can't wait to get some proper poses going with him.

Hi, Mortifactor...When changing over to a TT body, if you dont want to drill holes, does it look like a piece of velcro would work in holding the back armor plate in place?...Or would it leave too much of a gap?...

Matt

the thought of picking this figure up and having to do all of this work is depressing...

I think some double sided tape would be good, as long as it isn't rubbish double sided tape. Velcro being 2 parts may leave a slight gap, but wouldn't be that noticeable.

My chest armour is only taped on as I tightened it so much at the back (as a cheat to restitching the sides, like tugging your t-shirt from behind), the velcro it came with was too overlapping, so I needed to drill holes for the screws to secure that, depending what you do to the chestpiece you may be ok, but if you cheat the same way it may all be a bit wobbly.

You're a brave man, mortifactor. Looking forward to your Boba pics once he's been futzed. Might just be my imagination, but he already seems to be standing in a more natural, relaxed pose in those unfutzed pictures.

Honestly don't know if I can commit to buying a TT Slim (sounds like it would be about $50.00 CAD plus shipping, making Boba a $250.00 fig... and this is assuming nothing else goes wrong when taking him apart, sending me scurrying over to Toy Anxiety for spare parts) but I'm open to it down the road if I'm blown away by the difference. Thanks for sharing the mod with us.

My camera is so bad :( but I will try and get more pics of him up

If the velcro on the bottom of the legs is dud, its hard to fix, but maybe some tiny elastic bands like lego elastic bands or the sort used by orthodentists on braces would be concealable and still blouse the trousers.

At this point maybe try contact SSC for a new jump suit, cus once velcro is gone its gone - often the paint apps ruin it by mistake

Cool, thanks...:)

I see you used a TT slim...Now, not to sound dumb, but would a TT Narrow Shoulder work just as well, or will the body be too thick/thin to work with some of the uniform parts?

Being from a normal SSC body and not an armoured one, a narrow would definitely be ok, as would any TT body I think. I used a slim because Boba has always been really skinny looking to me, other ones are open to looking fine too though most likely. I'd be surprised if a narrow looked bad.

Here are some pictures, in the quickest cloud city diorama I could get :lol

Noooo, thats not an instagram filter on those pics, its just my crappy art camera (for use in extremely messy and camera damaging workshops in uni.. good camera is with GF atm)

I'm keen on him in the casual pose atm, but the TT slim is capable of good action poses on awkwardly armoured, heavy geared figures

When I decided to keep that I KNEW it would come in useful.... 2 or 3 years later.. once

I'm interested to see what other people try once new figure syndrome wears off and they don't mind chopping it up!

I REALLY want to see an all white painted fett, like the prototype armour they tried on (the sort hasbro did the 3"3/4 of)

I've ordered an extra helmet just to airbrush white, not insane enough to order a whole extra fett for that yet :lol

Good stuff Mortifactor, he looks fantastic. Im sure when my "new figure syndrome" wears off on I will do some chopping and hacking on Mr. Fett.

Quick comparison of arm length between the sideshow body and the TT slim

DSCF2810.jpg

That is nuts. I know 1/6 bodies have to make some accommodations for the size, but that forearm is ridiculous. Just look at your own arm, and imagine your hand was where it is on this body.

But given the cost of a slim, and any potential mods to make the body swap, I don't see myself switching over.

Same here; gonna cut the plastic backer at its edges, to round them, and then use a hair dryer to gently bend the the whole thing

Just a noob question here on using the hair dryer.
I've tried heating up the armour with the hair dryer but it seems very difficult to bend?

Any tips / method on heating up the amour so that we are able to "curve" the amour a little?
Do we need another assistant to help us to heat that area while we bend the amour?

Appreciate some feedbacks. Thank you.

people come in all different shapes and sizes man, Ive noticed Sideshows forearms are short but the hand w/ the ball joint lengthens it quite a bit, its probably just an accommodation of some sorts, my fett look fine a proportioned, just had to pull the sleeves down

The ball joints are the same on each body, and yeah people are different which is why I do body swaps, so not every character is the same height and build. Its the hips I dislike the most on ssc bodies.
