I saw them yesterday and took a look at the proto-types and they looked pretty cool. I ended up buying one of the atomic disintegrators because it looked great even at 1/6th scale. I'm on the pre-order list.

Hey, did they have any of the other figures on display? And supposedly they were going to have a new license announcement at SDCC... did that happen?

I stopped by the booth they were supposed to be sharing and all I saw were some postcards with the blaster on it. No figures at all.

Laaame. They were one of the displays I was most interested in hearing about... might be a bad sign if they can't show-up for the Con.

They were at the Rocket World booth:

Well, glad they at least showed up. Love the Buck.. not as sure about the others. So, I'll at least get the red shirt version.

There was also supposed to be an announcement from them... anyone get word on that?

While I was at SDCC, I spent a few moments talking to Steve Forde, the brains behind Go Hero. He's a super nice guy with a real passion for what he's doing (these figures are definitely a labor of love). A few of the more interesting tidbits from our geek-out chat:

The Buck Rogers figure is just the start of a media zeitgeist that will include (among other projects) reprints of the original comics (from Hermes Press) and a movie from an as-yet announced film studio.

A 1:6 scale rocket ship accessory / playset is on the drawing boards for Buck. (Mr. Ford indicated it would be about 3' long).

There are plans for each character to have its own trademark packaging (Sinbad in a Persian trunk; Perseus in a Greek column, etc.)

There was a thought of making the Sinbad figure favor John Phillip Law, but the actor passed away before he could be contacted for the rights to his likeness. (damn!)

A club accessory was on display to show the scale of the forthcoming Cyclops figure (he's going to be a big sucker).

The big announcement is a 1:6 scale figure of Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon! Like Buck, Flash will come in color and black and white versions. Ming is to follow.

For those who aren't "purists", Mr. Forde said he'd love to produce figures for the 80's incarnation of Flash (yay! :banana) and Buck somewhere down the line.

Like I said, a really cool guy. I'm on his pre-order list as well. Hope these figures are a success as he has even more plans for other classic heroes on tap.

Good to hear their might be some 80's goodness coming. I for one will be supporting these figures, love seeing some new blood in the 1/6 market :rock

Any idea when Buck will go up for pre order?

Well it says on that place card that the Buck Rogers figures are available to pre-order now.

Ichabod, did he say that the bodies that these figures are on, like the one Perseus is on, are the ones these figures are going to be released on or is there another body in development?

Also will Perseus come with the Helm of Hades?
Thanks for the info!

If I remember correctly the body they are using is one they developed in-house. And they are available for pre-order now... I think through their site and other places.

screamingmetal, I'm afraid I didn't think to ask about the specifics of the body , though, according to the Go Hero site, the body is of their own design:

Go Hero's ATOM-EDIA Body which contains an internal MP3 device. So, in the case of the Buck Rogers figure at least, you can "listen to episodes of the original Buck Rogers Radio Show. Connect via USB to download more files."

Didn't see a helm displayed with Perseus. You could always shoot them an e-mail and suggest it: [email protected]

I was trying to figure out what that MP3 Player deal was... so there is one in the body? That is a funky selling point. Pretty damn cool though if it plays vintage episodes :rock

HUH??!

We may need to consult a lawyer on this but I was under the impression that: any public figure was fair game...barring that, the studio should hold rights to the likeness of the character...unless the property has fallen into public domain and then it is fair game again.

Any corrections in this perception would be appreciated.

public image is fair game if you are making a figure of the public version (like a Gov Arnold figure but not a Arnold as he appeared in Commando).

When can we order??? I'm dyin' for this fig.

Same here. Their site says that orders were up at Comic-con and that the rest would go on sale when they returned but the store is still down and I also got on the mailing list but I have not heard nothing from that source either.

Ok, that is about what I already said. What about the rest of it??
