You guys have done some fantastic Colonial Marines!! Wow! I am MUCH impressed with the level of detail and accuracy!!!

In fact, I'll probably ask you guys for help w/ detail parts for Hicks, Hudson, etc! LOL!

Chris would and no doubt was, very proud of the work you guys put into the USCM. At DragonCon, he spoke very highly of this forum, strongly suggesting I check it out!

Hi,

Regarding the grenades, I know that the marines used different coloured ones to denote different grenade types (frag, incendiary etc) but Im not sure what exact colours where used. Besides I know that Hicks only had the red explosive types. Suprisingly, Hudson didn't wear any grenades at all on his armor.

Apologies if this has already been answered, but here's a rundown from the old USCM Tech Manual:

M40 Fragmentation: Red cap as per the film.

M38 Armour Piercing HE round: Green cap.

M51A Bounding frag round: Blue cap.

M60 WP incendiary round: White cap.

M72A1 Starshell round: Embossed letter "S" on the top.

M108 Buckshot canister: Cap section is shortened to just a few millimetres, with a flat black tip.

M230 Baton round: no info

Cheers,
CH

OMG! Just went through this thread again, hadn't gone all the way through before...WORKING shoulder lamps and Motion Trackers?!?!

Talk about stunned! I don't know what to say, but I have got to have them for my squad too!!

Looking for Hurricane's contact info!!

Thought you guys might like to see the Marine I'm working on...

Is that you Hollis? Very cool! I'd love to have my own 1:1 scale USCM outfit and pulse rifle someday. :D

Yup, that's me! It's a heckuva lotta fun being a 1/1 Colonial Marine, I gotta tell ya!

JediMike, if you ever decide to join the Colonial Marines, we'd be happy to have ya! And help you every step of the way to get geared up!

WOW! That's a great-looking USCM outfit you've got there, bro. Outstanding! I've been thinking of putting together a USCM outfit for years, but I had no idea that so many people were already into it, big time. I've checked out some of the Colonial Marines websites, but being an outsider, I sort of hesitated to get started...

I already have a set of patches from the first two Aliens movies and I'd really like get myself a USCM camo BDU to put them on, for starters. Any idea where I can score a set of movie-accurate cammies? Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Once I have that I'm gonna be hooked, so any suggestions about buying or making armour, etc., would also be welcome. I'll bet there are quite a few other people on this board who'd be interested in joining up if they knew how and where to get started. Sounds like JediMike is thinking about signing up, too. :D

Nice gear you got there Rex, looks like a set of Spats finest :)

Is that shot taken from a work-in-progress fan film? It would be cool to see someone make a nice short USCM flick. Ive been thking of making some short sequences with my figs :rock

Thanks guys! That pic is from the set of "Drop Zone Copernicus" a USCM fan film that is currently in post production. Personal bias aside...it's going to be pretty darn cool. The Marines have been updated from our 80's favorites. We all received CQB (Close Quarter Battle) training, so we move like professional operators do today. None of the old "rifle pointing one way, head looking another..." I'm the pointman, and the biggest difference is the use of the motion tracker. Instead of holding the PR pointing up and lookin' at the MT, I hold it in my left hand, under the gl portion of the pr. So, when I'm looking at the MT, I'm also looking down the barrel of the PR.

The armor in the film is made my High Impact. It's sturdy ABS. Yeah, I was jonesin' for my set of armor!!

We're always extremely helpful to any and all that want to join the Corps.
We'll be glad to help every step of the way, no secrets in the Corps! :)

Here's the only place to buy screen accurate bdu's. Menatarms produces these. This newest set w/ come w/ patches already sewed on if desired.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to view the topic without being registered.
My user name on that forum is Sgt.Adams. Since the film, I use Hollis DZC, my character.

Spat makes some great armor, I have a set of his that I've painted and re-built w/ od webbing. It's light, flexible, sturdy and wearable for long periods of time. www.spatcave.com

His new "Spulse Rifle" is a really outstanding piece of work. It's highly detailed.
Much improved over his older, since retired one. Pretty darn affordable too. Comes with a static led ammo counter. Highly reccomend it.

My personal PR is a Matsucorp w/ a Hyperdyne sound package. It's very expensive to say the least. It's mostly metal, with a backwards counting ammo counter, bright white led flashes in the barrel, and a sound board plays gunfire from the movie. When the ammo counter reaches 00, it makes a "clack, clack" sound. It's pretty darn cool! :D

Spat's armor is based closer to Dietrich's armor, which was the standard for years and years.

Menatarms (Scifimiliary) makes a fiberglass Hicks size armor. I've got a set on order, I'll let you know how I like it. A buddy has it, and he really likes it, sooooo...

The difference is the Hicks set is a bit longer in the torso.

Spat's comes painted, fully assembled.
Menatarms does not.

Menatarms stuff is kit form, all of Spats stuff is ready to wear.

Here's a couple pics of my Spat Armor-

About the only pic I have of the armor torso-

It's not an inexpensive hobby, but by god, we have such a blast!! One of our mottos that Chris really liked was: "There may be far larger costuming groups, but none have as much camadarie as the Colonial Marines!"

There's a parade on Sat. of DragonCon that's televised by CNN. We always run a "Colony Sweep" that afternoon. This past sweep was choreographed, filmed and has special effects added. It should be ready hopefully soon. You guys will just dig it!! I guarentee it!!

We'd love to have you guys join us. In addition to the USCM, there's also a UKCM, a Canadian branch, just getting an Australian branch going, all even have their own patches. :D

Take a few minutes and check us out-

I can just imagine how much fun you guys have, Rex. Really makes me wish I was already there! Thanks for all the intel, too. I'll start looking into gathering some of the basics. I used to be into collecting militaria years ago, foreign camo, badges, web gear, you name it... so I may already have something I can use.

Btw, I'd love to see that PR in action, that must really be a sight to behold. I've been wanting a PR of my own for a very long time, even thought of building one from real weapon components. I've got the plans for it, even got as far as buying a demilled M1A1 Thompson SMG for parts, but I couldn't bring any of that stuff back to Japan with me. :monkey4 Gotta be strictly airsoft over here!

I'd still like to build my own one of these days, but I'll definitely look into buying one already made. That would be a whole lot easier! :lol

Edit: Do you happen to know if there are currently any Asian detachments in the Corps? If not, I may have to start one...

Bro, you could use as a cheaper substitute for the screen accurate camo would be the Crye Multicam. It looks really good, and it's about a 3rd of the price!

Yeah, there's a thread currently going on about "real parts" in a PR. An airsoft one would be pretty darn cool bro! There's a couple outfits that sell 'em already done, or you can buy the parts and build it yourself. Some of the Marines do have 'em and really like 'em! I've been sorely tempted myself, I must admit...

I don't believe there are any Asian detachments in the Corps! We are sadly lacking in that dept! You should start one! You'll find no shortage of help w/ designing your own patches!! Whereas everyone is familar w/ the Screaming Eagle of the USCM, there's the UK Lion, Aussie Kangaroo (a real cool one)...

I forgot to mention that we also have a French detachment as well.

That would be great to have you start a detachment!

Just an aside....but a sort of pertinent one...now, in the wake of Chris's loss...

I never got a Hudson small accessories set. The tie or other small bits. Or that cool lighter holder for Hicks either. Anyone know how to get those small bits now? I am not sure what I need to do for my guys yet, but I am not far from them being pretty much all done. Been a while since I worked on them at all (my own Vasquez is WAY behind...no arm sleeves or dark skin painted yet...not even lightened BDUs yet...BAD LES! :monkey1 )

Anyway, any help or leads would be appreciated.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, Les. I picked up a load of stuff from Chris last year, almost enough for a whole platoon of marines, and he kindly sent me some Gerber MKIIs and other stuff for free. I didn't even know about the little extra goodies for Hudson that he'd done until JediMike started talking about 'em on his Hudson project.

I'd been planning to order some more kits after the New Year and ask Chris about getting some more MKIIs, the bolo pin, and any other cool stuff he might have on hand... I'd also planned to pick up a couple of sniper rifles, the ones Angie designed, too. Not sure what to do now...

I've been thinking of making the small stuff myself, but if there were any way I could locate some of Chris's original EVA parts, I'd much rather have those. Yeah, if anybody could help out, it would be very, very much appreciated!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was thinking exactly the same thing about using the Multicam, in fact I already have a set. I like that pattern anyway, and I was thinking I might do something a little different from the traditional CM BDU. I'd really like to have a screen-accurate set eventually, but the Multicam would do for starters. The only problem is that it's still so new-looking, it almost stands up by itself... I'm talkin' about your classic FNG new... :lol

If I were to start a detachment over here, I might be a force of 1 for quite a while, at least until I could look into seeing if anyone else was interested. There are absolutely mobs of Aliens fans and combat survival gamers here who'd probably sign up in a heartbeat, I would just need to find some of those guys and recruit a bunch of 'em. Definitely a possibility.

Btw, I've seen some of those beautiful custom unit patches you mentioned and I've been kicking around an idea for one with a Dragon instead of the Eagle, which I think would be fitting for this locale. I've actually made my own patches before, and I've been thinking of making a sample of it. When I have the design sketched out, I'll post some pics on the AL forum so you can let me know what you think of it. :D

Oh bro, that would be soooo gosh darn cool! I would love to see the Dragon on a Asian detachment patch!!

Good deal on having the multicam!! A step closer!! :D

Sounds like you have the recruitment planning in some good stages!

Guys, I'm trying to see what can be done w/ Chris's 1/6th parts. Talking to a buddy to try and see what Joy would like to do. Don't know if anything at all will happen, but I'm trying to keep some of Chris's legacy alive.

Wish me luck.

Hey Les. Well, I have the Hudson "bolo" tie clip from Chris for my Hudson, and I've painted it. But I haven't put it on Hudson yet. I also have some Gerber boot knives from Chris. Some in the sheaths, and some extra ones out of the sheaths. Chris told me that the ones inside the sheaths were a one-piece mold. So the knife can't be pulled out of the sheath. I ended up getting an EVA Models pulse rifle from a board member here a few months ago in a trade. He didn't know that Chris made those. I guess you can recast the Hudson bolo tie clip, the Gerber knifes and maybe the pulse rifle too. Can you make molds or recast them from the ones Chris sent me? Just trying to help you out. Let me know. Thanks. :D

I posted this pic a while back in this thread detailing the small accesories that are on Hudsons armor.

hudson_belt.jpg

The neckloop that attaches to the knife is just two pices of thread braided together.

The knife is a sheathed Gerber from Chris.

The belt tool is one of those smart gun clips off a Drake figure.

The comms pouch measures 3cm by 1.8cm and was made by cutting a pattern in leather and wrapped around a rectangle of plastic. My Hicks lighter pouch was made the same way.

The bolo tie was actually a flying eagle, not a skull. I made mine by tracing the outline from a pic of the prop and cutting it out of plastic then painted silver. This is the template I made.

Big props to Jen! She sent me a Frank Black head! Now to make my Bishop. I also was able to score a Vasquez for retail. All I need now is Ripley and Apone. So back to the Bishop. Does anyone have any stills of him from the movie?
