Gotta admit I would hate for the 3rd Hobbit go up against Avatar:(

Re-posting what I had posted on another forum before.

Avatar had great visuals effects with photo realistic looking characters and believable stunning CG environments. But I didn't care for the story nor for the characters.

For me District 9 did a better job with the story and action, the movie made me care for the characters and I loved the full blown action in the second half, it was my favourite movie of 2009.

I am hoping the Avatar sequels will be better. But one of the contributing factors for the box office success of the first film was that it had started the whole 3D craze that drove people to go and watch the movie. Many didn't go to see it cause it was Avatar, they went cause it was a 3D movie, but that 3D novelty has now worn off.

And though I have no doubt with the marketing push the sequels will still make millions, it just won't be a movie that regular people will be keen to discover like they did before, unless the trailers somehow really wows them.

And in comparison to the number of Hobbit & LOTR fans and their fandom in general, Avatar fans are miniscule.

O yea avatar. I remember that movie. The blue dudes right? Jk I'm well aware.

Since everyone apparently hates Avatar now I wonder how well these sequels will do in the end?

I dont hate it...best 3D I ever saw...story although borrowed from sources was good too...The wife & kids and many left the theater saying wow...

I couldn't care less whether or not a Battle Angel Alita film gets made by Cameron. I've watched a lot of anime but that one never once came up as a "must see," and certainly not in live-action form.

Sounds to me like Cameron is afraid of failing to achieve Titanic/Avatar success with another property so he's just going to retreat and camp out on his Pandora laurels the rest of his life.

Funny.
Yep if theres something that Cameron is its a coward, a Guy thats affraid easely. Avatar was a hit before it was out, Titanic too right?
Not crazy projects motivated by passion.
Those were sure hits...
Lets say for a second that the Guy created a world based on everything he loved as a kid, it got huge success, he wants to go further in this world because he got ideas and stuff would it be surprising that he wants to go back?
Seriously from what you know of Cameron persona does he come off like someone looking to retreat and have it easy? Might as well milk terminator if he wanted to do that no?
Especially since he got what he calls his "F you" money after Titanic, why would he bother if it was not sincère.

As for battle alita you might want to go to the source of the material yukito kshiro manga gunm to see what could be done and why it could be awesome :)

Isn't that strange? Few yrs ago the whole nation beside a few loved it. I use to love it so much it gave me a bad rep on here. Now it's nothing to me.

That tells nothing.
People changes, their taste too.
That is all.
Its almost hype to hate Avatar it seems.
Why? Because of the simple story?
Geeks have orgasm on those every day, recently with Pacific RIM for exemple. The same thing happened with Titanic, it just feel right to bash on those for some reasons.
Being one of the cool kids i guess.
I can critisize avatar for many things but also see its merits.
And it has many.

But it'll still make a billion$....no what you meant to say many on this forum hate this....Much of the world loves this film. To say otherwise is fooling yourself and who cares if you like/love something and someone/group gives you a bad rep...F'em

There were a lot of people who hated that movie from the beginning. A lot of them are right here. :lol

You think Hoobit will beat Avatar?

I wager it'll have the momentum after Desolation of Smaug. There's nothing about the ending of Avatar 1 that demands a continuation. The novelty of Avatar's gimmick will be long gone and if it comes out in 2014 that means less input from Weta since they'll be putting all of their efforts into Hobbit 3.

You can never count Cameron out obviously but I don't think A2 will be the slam dunk many will assume it to be.
