The lulz are strong with this thread!

Atwell will be missed but unless time travel was involved, it will have to be VanCamp. The Katherine Hepburn impression was getting stale anyway. Bring on that sweet little minx Emily! Don't get me wrong, Paltrow and Portman are great actresses, but VanCamp is a stunner.

Actually there has been a Batman film ironically enough that didn't make the hero's romantic feelings in any way part of the plot: Batman & Robin.

Actually that is one fo the worst offenders. There is a character played by Ellie McPherson that isn't connected to the main plot at all, appears in like two scenes discussing marriage with Bruce Wayne and then dissapears never to be seen again.

You were commenting on love interests that take focus away from the "main story." Elle MacPherson's character is absolutely the *least* offender in that regard.

From an interview with Stanley Tucci:

I loved making that movie. I had a great time. I really like Joe Johnston. I think he’s a wonderful director. I also love the look of the film, and the tone of the film, and the character was great. I was thrilled to be able to play that. I was so sad that I died because I wanted to come back and do another one. It was great to be offered this old, German scientist. I thought, “Oh, that’s great.” I couldn’t tell if I was really flattered or insulted. I don’t know.
