They really are kind of a dream team for these types of movies. Joe has said that he's been collecting comics since he was 10 (1981) and seems to know all the great high points for Marvel characters going way back into random one-offs from the 70's and 80's. He and Anthony are always pitching their best ideas to each other, vetoing the crap, and trying to defer to the best idea for any given sequence. Though how the Sam Wilson jump slipped through is anyone's guess I suppose. Maybe it was a Feige thing. We'll see how long they continue in that vein but the two of them together really weathered a massive production that would have given Whedon cardiac arrest and they aren't given any indication that they're "worn out."
After Inifinity War I'm really looking forward to seeing them hopefully do some more contemporary/classic action films minus the sci-fi elements, though I suppose I'd be more than curious if they DID attempt something more sci-fi oriented (like say their own Terminator-esque original narrative.)
Yea, and it's probably a lot easier to take something like this on when you have someone else that has your back 100%. And Marvel seems to be more comfortable with them doing the far out there stuff that might come off as weird with another director doing it, the two things they wanted that Marvel original said no to was Zola the computer in TWS and
Giant Man
in CW. Marvel said it was to weird to do those and they said "NO, it's comic book movie! there's going to be out there stuff and there should be!" which I think is awesome, I can't wait to see what they bring to the table with IW.
