I don't even count Cap 3 as a proper Cap film since they changed the direction of the film after BvS was announced.

The Russos pitched Civil War from the get go. That was always the film the directors wanted to make as the sequel to The Winter Soldier. Feige said no, then later changed his mind after the WB announcement.

If you watch TWS again you'll see that it really segues nicely into Civil War as we see firsthand how Cap gets burned by performing surgical strikes as determined by a corrupt committee of government mucky mucks and why we'd never agree to go down that road again.

Yep. Of course no single Cap movie is better than Raiders but it's definitely the better trilogy. At the very least Civil War is superior than every "Part 3" save for Return of the King.

If I were to rank the top ones strictly in terms of quality I'd go:

1. LOTR
2. SW OT
3. ALIEN/ALIENS/Alien 3
4. Indy trilogy
5. Dark Knight Trilogy
6. Mad Max trilogy

(I'm sure someone will mention The Man with No Name trilogy but save for Unforgiven Westerns have just never been my thing.)

I'd put Cap trilogy as neck and neck with ALIEN. Too close for me to call right now, check back with me in a year or two. :lol

Oh I love this stuff... I am not going to base it on quality though... I am just going to base it on my rating system which is 100% accurate and factual.

I am sticking to Genre films so The Godfather and Bourne movies won't be on here.

So there you go. I mean you can't argue with science... :lol

I really have to watch CA:TFA again... I have only seen it the one time in the theaters and I just can't seem to ever be in the mood to watch it again.. I don't know why. I liked it and all but I did not love it. I have to give it another chance. TWS and CW need time to see if they can achieve the perfect 10 score. That is strictly for the all time classics.

Oh and the Man with No Name trilogy is not a trilogy. Clint does not play the same character. He has a name in all three... But he looks the same and acts the same. Many argue that he is the same.. If so The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is more of a Prequel (we see him get his famous poncho)

BTW it is nice to see others giving TOD love over TLC... I never cared much for TLC. The Tank battle is great but that is about it.. Though I enjoyed Connery as Henry Jones. He was not enough to save what was actually a pretty sloppy movie.

TOD is far from perfect... I will admit.. But it was the film that made me an Indy super fan and as Khev said.. It's so much damn fun!

Oh yes you definitely need to watch CA:TFA again. It might not be on the level of the others but it's an underrated gem that feels right at home alongside the Indy movies and Rocketeer.

If we switch to "favorites" and not quality then I'd replace LOTR with the SW OT. Then LOTR, then Cap trilogy, then ALIEN. I don't love Mad Max as much as some but I included it since it is another trilogy where the first two films are considered classics. I'm shocked you didn't give ratings to JAWS/JAWS 2/JAWS 3-D. :lol

And BTTF II a 9/10???? Is that a typo? It's like I don't even know you anymore. :lol Other than the funny "Ric Flair gif" I thought that was a horrible sequel and I never consider Parts II and III to be connected to the classic original.

They walk, walk some more and when you think they couldn't possibly ....they walk some more..:gollum:.the elf and crazy bald dude were pretty cool tho

Oh you're one of those "Clerks" types. Shaking my head....

Toy Story - 10/10

Toy Story 2 - 9.5/10

Toy Story 3 - 10/10

Total score 29.5 :lecture

I'm not surprised, from what I hear that trilogy really resonated strongly with little kids. :monkey3

It's sad that animation doesn't get recognized when people and websites make silly list of best films or trilogies. Even the Oscars don't nominate certain animated films for best picture, despite certain animated films being the most critically acclaimed film of the year. As we speak, Toy Story is the highest critically acclaimed trilogy of all time, and it's not even close, with RT scores of 100%, 100%, and 99%. Not to mention Toy Story is not just culturally significant, but arguably the most groundbreaking and important film in the past 30 years. It was the fist full length CGI film, and it changed animation forever and how studios make animated films. There is animation before Toy Story, and there is animation after Toy Story.

I think Pulp Fiction, Braveheart, and Toy Story make up the "Holy Trinity" of 90's groundbreaking films that instantly changed their respective genres (or in the case of Pulp Fiction, several genres.)

Braveheart, really? Pulp Fiction I get it, because of the dialogue and a few other things that other movies in the 90's stated imitating. I'd probably put The Matrix in that group too, as far action films go.

Braveheart, really?

Oh yes. Everything from LOTR to Noah has been chalk full of Braveheart-isms. The biggest medieval historical epics AND fantasy films of the last 20 years literally wouldn't exist as we know them had not Gibson provided them all the definitive playbook.

The Matrix was an edgy effects thriller but I think its "influence" tends to be overstated. Kung fu was nothing new, John Woo gunfights were nothing new, man vs. machines and "Chosen One" motifs were nothing new, its big gimmick was bullet-time and that was a fad that didn't last. Don't get me wrong, I still greatly enjoy the original Matrix but it doesn't deserve to be mentioned along with those other three films IMO.

I think the first matrix was a little ground breaking too. It changed the way crazy gun fights are filmed.

Interesting, you'd think it would have a higher critic and fan rating on RT.

It totally changed action and how characters could break the laws of physics, which is something that I hated, because that stuff only worked in The Matrix because the story made sense of it by creating a fictional world, but you look at most action films after Matrix, and they are all doing the bullet time, the slow motion, the crazy kung fu fighting and characters doing impossible things unlike anything before Matrix. Superhero films kind of killed the Matrix trend...thank god!

Let go of RT. Free...your mind.

There were some copycats (Charlie's Angels films, Jet Li's "The One") and a million spoofs of that damn Trinity kick but the trend didn't last (probably because Matrix 2 and 3 killed it. :lol)

Don't forget Wanted, Inception, Kill Bill, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Kick Ass, Oblivion, Equilibrium and even X Men (2000).

I vote Matrix 1 as being ground breaking simply because it took the spotlight away from TPM in 1999. It even influenced a Godzilla movie! :lol

Khev is right about Braveheart, it was first to show armies rushing each other with such gore and brutality, that carried over into many other movies plus it made Sophie Marceau a sex symbol and solidified Mel as an all around master of his art.

Toy Story 1 and 2 are fun, my son loved them like most kids, but now he's into the best action trilogy ever made, Captain America!

Man, isn't it crazy that Raiders, Alien, Godfather, Terminator, Predator, Robocop, Jaws, Exorcist, Friday the 13th, Halloween or Die Hard can't claim that honor!

I would say Cap trilogy = OT trilogy in trilogy quality with First Avenger being equivalent to ROTJ.
