Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

awesome poster. I'm diggin the suit in it alot.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Holy mother of god.

Bucky is in this? I had no idea. I thought they were going to omit him. I'm not really a Cap fan nor do I know too much of the character, but this is looking pretty good to me so far. I'm really digging this as a period piece instead of the other "modern" Marvel films.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

AMAZING!

I hate it when movies about well known masked characters are afraid to highlight the mask. It shows a half-assed commitment to the material and a notable lack of confidence in their own title character. I bet they'll find some reason for his helmet to be knocked off at the end of the movie so he can have the final fight without it then too.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Considering they are going with the Ultimates inspired helmet it'll at least be more believable if it gets knocked off instead of in films like Spider-Man where it gets shredded perfectly. Say what you will about Synder's Watchmen but at least he kept Rorschach in the goddamn mask every time he should have been.

:thud: :yess: :rock

I'm really digging this poster!

my favorite Cap cover:rock. Couldn't have wished for a better poster

Ditto! I'm a very happy Cap fan right now!!

The real question that needs to be asked is this....

Is that Chris Evan's face or Captain America's face?

Right now everytime I see RDJ's face I see Tony Stark and not the actor RDJ, i'm sure most Marvel fans on this forum would agree, no?

So, the question is then, will Chris Evans be associated with Captain America as RDJ is to Tony Stark.

Want my answer......No, he is not Captain America to me YET....but we shall see.

Therefore until then, I would prefer that poster to have a masked version (where as now I enjoy Stark photos as much as I enjoy IM photos).

May the arguments begin :lol

Great post, Jye! I agree with every point you made. :D

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Thanks Snoop, I think I even agreed with what I said and that's rare :lol

They succeeded at making a simple poster that can represent a few different ideas depending who's looking at it.

First and foremost, it's a bad ass poster based off a comic book drawing, simple and effective, great choice.

But there is more there for me.

The 2 obvious ones:

The Saving Private Ryan vibe with the textures.
Selling the Avengers movie minus the letter "S"

The not so obvious ones, your metaphor mileage will vary :lol

All the dirt surrounding the American colors invokes dirty politics and wall street greed soiling the country.

Also a country at war, not only abroad but with itself.

What's yours?

I wish Snyder would direct a Wolverine movie then :lol

I'm tired of hearing about how the mask will look silly or how a mask doesn't allow the audience to connect with the character.

I say baloney, many connected with Darth Vader just fine in the OT with all 3 movies where he was masked 99.9% of the time yet in the PT many didn't connect with Anakin in the 3 movies that he wasn't masked 99.9% of the time.

It's less about the character and more about their contracts calling for their pretty faces to be shown as much as possible :lol

Think about it, even Juggernaut couldn't have his trademark closed helmet, had to be that stupid open helmet they went and used :gah:

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Don't forget V for Vendetta.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I always figured movie heroes lose their mask because there's someone famous underneath it. They did a nice job showing RDJ and keeping the helmet on, well until the end anyway.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Wolverine's mask would've sucked. Thing looks silly as ____. IMO anyway. As someone who doesnt read comics.

Yeah, the way Iron Man did it (until the end, as you mentioned) was pretty ingenious. I didn't mind Spidey's face getting torn at the end of the first Spider-Man, it reminded me of how his mask got mangled in that one Todd McFarlane "Torment" miniseries back in the early 90's.

In Spidey 2 it seemed like he ripped it off every other second though. At least Captain America's costume is one that actually looks cool without the mask. I wouldn't mind if he has it off for a key, yet brief, scene in the movie but the fact that we're just seeing the teaser poster and its already off doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I don't mind him not having it in this movie all the time since its just a helmet. But then, there's not a whole lot of reason for him to not have it since its just a helmet.

I get the Saving Private Ryan vibe also. My metaphors are different for sure. :lol

When I look at the poster I see a man readying himself for war and the horrors that accompany it.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

The poster will end up being more epic than the movie I'll bet.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Nothing I've seen, the poster not withstanding, says this'll be a gritty WW2 flick. I'd drop a load in the theater if a swastika appears on screen at any point.
Johnston and Evans wont surprise me, I just want a good figure(s)

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Is the 30 second trailer out yet :lol

Let me see:
3 seconds of the Paramount logo
3 seconds of the Marvel logo
6 seconds of words and movie title
6 seconds of bad dudes
1 second of a girl crying
2 seconds of his flying shield
9 seconds of Evans face
0 seconds of Nazis

Can't wait :rock
