Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I wonder if wolverine will make a secret cameo? they first met in WWII

No. Wolverine's film likeness is owned by 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios has made no public attempt to pay for the rights to use the character nor has Jackman been credited for even a cameo. I wouldn't hold my breath for any X-Men, Spidey characters or FF characters to show up in Marvel Studio films.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I can do without any "modern" superheroes in this flick, even those retroactively inserted into Cap's past.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Neever noticed in one of those screen caps when Steve gets out of the chamber with the new body, the two women are both starring at his chest LOL

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

So did they get DJ Qualls to be Skinny Steve Rogers' body double?

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I'm very glad I found out about the detracting elements ahead of time so I may actually be able to enjoy this to some extent. If I had went in with expectations of a very faithful representation of Captain America and got the lacking patriotism, missing Nazis, Bucky from the old neighborhood, etc, there would be no chance of enjoyment.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

No 30 second spot or 3 minute trailer will stop me from seeing this movie.

That being said, how the ____ can you not end the 30 sec spot with him NOT throwing his shield with some bad ass wind up and throw!

BAM, in your face, eat my shield you dirty Nazi wanna be!

Instead it ends with some lady saying "I think it works" :slap

Ok, i'm done venting, July is far away isn't it. :gah:

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I'm aware of the different studio thing, but I never understood why they couldn't crossover certain characters if they really wanted to. Sure, Fox owns the movie rights for the X-Men, and Sony, Spidey, but The Mouse owns Marvel. If they were adamant about having a cameo/crossover, I can't see why it couldn't be done over a paycheck and a handshake.

Hell, even put two studio logos before the titles. I find it very hard to believe, if Marvel wanted to use Wolverine or Spidey or whoever, and they fronted the cash, Fox or Sony would put their foot down. Especially, if they could use Iron Man or Hulk as a guest in one of their projects, and could afford it.

Sorry if I'm just grossly ignorant to the whole situation, I'm just tired of fans shooting it down like it's a 100% set-in-stone impossibility. I'm pretty sure anything like that is possible.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

But it IS set in stone.....the thing is, Hollywood is about one thing, and ONE thing only. Money. Like any other business. So when they have something that sells ( X-men, Spider-Man ect...) they sure as hell dont want to let someone one else "borrow" it.

For example....you'll never see McDonalds carry Woppers for a week because Burger King wanted to be nice and share it's sucesss. They would lose money.

Sure, logicly a 30 second cameo of Wolverine in this movie wouldnt hurt the actual Fox movie...but if they do that..what's stopping them from making Wolverine a main character? If they can have 30 seconds...why not 30 minutes?

It gets hairy....but the point is, licenses never cross over. They cant. The studios dont want their biggest property's merging with someone elses.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Fox may own the film rights to Wolverine, but they don't own Hugh Jackman. Marvel could get cute and hire Jackman to be some generic soldier who comes across Cap (or any other superhero in one of their other movies) as long as it isn't done in a way that screams Wolverine. They could have a brief exchange where Jackman raises an eyebrow and puffs a cigar as a quick nod to fans but that'd be about it.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Of course it's all about the money. But what's keeping either company from signing a contract for featuring a cameo, if both studios get a credit and a cut? They could even stipulate the rival studios' character cannot be used in marketing. As for defining the difference between cameo and supporting role, they pay lawyers to monitor things like that.

Surely since Fox or Sony are essentially buying from Marvel, and some producers cross over, it's not as outrageous or unrealistic as having Batman appear in a Spiderman film.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

They actually kinda do own Hugh Jackman.

Something similer happend with Ryan Reynolds and Warner Brothers. They pretty much told him NOT to go with any other studio for comic movies....now, he doesnt have too...but they're trying to keep him away from Deadpool. Didnt quite work, but they could green light the GL sequel right after, and start filming so soon that Deadpool would have no chance.

The thing is, Fox isnt retarded...(well...they are, but not like this), they could easily pick up on that, that soldier is supposed to be Wolverine. They dont want that. Hence why you'll never see any crossovers until Fox drops the rights, and Marvel Studios picks them up.

But Marvel no longer owns the rights to make films about their characters....Fox and Sony do. And they CAN sue Marvel. Who created what is irrelevant. It's who ever has the rights.
