Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

In the First Vengance comic on the official site it mentions Nazi-Occupied Danish Straights for a location in the first panel but he is going there to fight a Hydra team.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Well, there might still be Nazis and "hell yeah, Red, White, and Blue" American reinforcement in this right?

Nope, according to some it's going to be pink Islamic fairies from San Francisco fighting Republican zombie baby-killers. :panic::panic::panic:

Don't forget Cap also has teatime with a censor bar covered Muhammad so that the film will appeal to Islam as well.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I hope Lucas goes back and inserts real Nazis in Star Wars, Empire Stikes Back and Return of the Jedi :lol

I read that comic as well. Apparently, Marvel digital comics will be running a small series.

Nah, I always saw the Galactic Empire more as the British and the rebels the Americans fighting for the revolution. You have the stormtroopers who all look alike and have the shiney white armor(redcoats), the vast fleet of ships they use to enforce their grasp, and even the british officers.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Here's the quote from one of Mike's posts.

"Captain America’s costume evolves over the course of the film, and prior to him wearing the final suit that’s appeared in several official photos, he finds himself being used as a tool for propaganda while wearing the traditional winged-helmet suit found in the comic books. Howard Stark is the one who helps him build his new, advanced suit."

So, yeah, its hard to imagine how they're using the costume that would be bad propaganda. In today's climate I can think of plenty of ways Cap could be used as propaganda he would disagree with, but during WWII...

The Empire was definitely based on nazis. Ever notice there are no aliens in the Empire? There are some parallels to the American revolution, but Nazis were a huge source.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Well still, is it written in stone? Has there been anything definitive that states that Captain America won't really be gung-ho about fighting for America or that there won't be Nazis?

I just can't see them making Captain America low-key "American". He should represent America and the strength of people, not just the strength of people.

Nope,

from crazy himself (Lucas), SW was WW2 in space, Nazi troopers and all.....

The Brit accents just confuse that's all......byproduct of where he had to film and what actors he had to use.

This is what's going to happen.

USA / President will send the core US military to fight Hitler and new CIA / Shield will send Cap and his special group to take out Hydra.....maybe :lol

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I thought it looked great and RS was really awesome. Looking forward to seeing a little longer trailer as we get closer the the movie.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

America has a catch 22. When someone bashes the country or asks what is so great about America and you actually give an answer you're accused of being arrogant.
I know what its like to be around people of that generation because my parents were of that generation and it was a different time that should be reflected in a film about that time. A time when the rest of the world appreciated the sacrifices America made and we were allies. We haven't been perfect but a greater force for good and freedom has never been seen before, but the worry of offending anyone or appearing unsympathetic has castrated many. Like it or not America was a unique place, joined by a common belief that you were free to pursue your own happiness, own your own property, make a better life for yourself, and individual rights were sacred. That ideology was in direct opposition to the National Socialist Party and thats why Captain America was the symbol to oppose them. In today's climate maybe its better that Nazis aren't shown so they aren't portrayed as merely misunderstood.

From Badass Digest:

Look. maybe I’m biased, but I think Captain America: The First Avenger essentially won the Super Bowl. The commercial that played during the game hit almost every note perfectly, with one glaring omission:

Where was the shield throw?

But beyond that the trailer gives a sense of the story, shows us the Benjamin Button-esque effects that create Steve Rogers, show us Captain America in action and finally give us a glimpse of the Red Skull. The tone feels right, the look is wonderful, and I love everything about it.

There’s still 119 1/2 minutes of the movie to watch, but this commercial only reinforced my feeling that Captain America will be THE Marvel movie of 2011.

And check this ____ out – Dum Dum Dugan! That’s him in the bowler. Look at the ____ing Howling Commandoes!

From Slash Film:

I love the way this looks. It’s a little bit pulpy, even a touch camp, but in general it looks just like Captain America. A thirty-second spot isn’t much time — you can hide a lot of flaws with so little time to play with — but I really hope this is truly representative of the film. The early weakling Steve Rogers shots look perfect, the shot of Cap leading the Howling Commandos is spot-on, and the action looks like it’ll satisfy people who’ve been hoping for a real successor to Indiana Jones. (Yeah, I said it.)

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Well I don't know how good a movie its going to be but Cap has been my favorite superhero for more than 30 years and I'm shocked to say I didn't find the trailer the least bit offensive. Looks downright fun, bring it on!
